Lochmere Golf Club
About
Located near the banks of Swift Creek, Lochmere Golf Club has plenty of water incorporated into the layout, coming into play on nearly every hole. The golf course stretches across a lush, gently rolling landscape sprinkled with mature trees and ponds. The terrain showcases the best in Triangle golf. At just over 6,600 yards it is not particularly long, but it provides plenty of challenges. It is a tight course that will test your accuracy with narrow fairways lined with trees. The small greens that are heavily protected by well placed bunkers demand thoughtful strategy and pinpoint control. The golf course offers a fair challenge but it is still accessible for beginners, especially from the forward tees. Lochmere G.C. is a favorite among Cary locals, both for its enjoyable design and its affordable rates.

WET!!
The drainage on this course is not good. Always wet. Especially on the back 9.
Too wet
They need to suspend play until the ground has tightened / dried. It was a swamp. Nearly fell down on a couple of swings in the tee box. Greens and bunkers were in great shape, just needed hip waders to get there. Good course and in good shape mid summer. But far too wet to be very enjoyable right now.
Enjoyable day on very wet course.
Course was extremely wet/soggy with some fairways being so wet it was difficult to get to your ball. Greens are in fantastic shape! For some reason they removed the 150 yard markers from the middle of the fairways which I really do not. So PLEASE put them back.
Pace of play too slow
They started late due to frost, but overbooked At 11am there were 8 people on the 1st fairway and another 10 lining up to play.
DON’T BOTHER
Highly recommend not going to Lochmere. I live right near it, so by nature it’s an “easy” option and I’ve played here probably 30+ times. But, it turns out poorly every single time. Course is always wet. They allow single cart riders, so there are never any carts. I’ve waited 45 minutes passed my tee time just for a cart. They book 8 minute tee times so you wait on every single shot. Absolutely zero management to help with any of these issues. This latest experience my tee time was pushed back an hour and fifteen minutes due to frost earlier in the day. Every other course I play gets rid of their 7:30 tee times this time of year for that reason. Not Loch...they simply want all the money they can get regardless of your experience.
Sad really, because the course is decent and has a nice layout. Won’t be playing again until something changes here.
Swamp
It was a swamp. If it has rained in past few days, DO NOT play here.
Mediocre course in Cary NC
Course is mediocre at best and layout is poor. Staff was extremely UNFRIENDLY and no off course amenities.
Winter Rains take toll on Course
The greens are in great shape. The course was darn near under water everywhere, tee boxes, fairways, cart paths were flooded. Tough course to play during NC winters after some rain. I'm sure it shows much better in the summer. I would not want to play the course again till June.
Nice greens, but that is about it.
I will highlight the one bright spot of this course, and that is the greens. If this were a par 3 course it would be awesome. The rest of the course is in horrible shape. It is like playing in a swamp. I took a drop for casual water at least 15 times. Every time I book a tee time here I think it will be a different story, and every time I vow to never play here again. I think yesterday will be my last.
A bit wet
To be playing golf in December is great. The course was pretty mushy after the recent rain and quite crowded but the staff is great and the greens are holding up nicely.
Fall Golf
I know it’s fall golf and leaves are inevitable but there’s an insane amount of leaves in the fairways and on the greens. Very easy to lose a ball even when hit down the center of the fairway. Took 10 minutes to clear leaves out of your line for putting because the greens were covered in leaves and sticks. The course was in great shape other than that and the greens rolled true. Just need to get someone with a blower out there.
Greens were in good condition
The Greens were in great shape with the big usage. Carts had to stay on the paths due to heavy rain last week. A bit muddy, bring a towel.
Pace of play a problem
The past 3 times I have played here I have had 5+ hour rounds. This time the course was wet and cartpath only, but we still didnt tee off until 20 minutes after our tee time and played over 5 hours. We were still paying the full rate basically which was honestly unacceptable.
It is a shame because I like the layout of the course and there arent too many public options in the area. The course drains pretty poorly and will stay wet days after rain. Greens and fairways minus the water were still in pretty decent shape.
I think I am going to pass on playing here for a while because I just cant get over their tee time management. They need to spread these tee times out and stop being greedy with slamming the tee sheet
Very Disappointing Round if Golf
We had 3 groups waiting ahead of us at our scheduled tee time. The course was slushy with very poor drainage after heavy rains a couple of days ago. It was cart path only, and very slow groups ahead of us. The ranger attributed it to the course conditions, so, nothing could be done about it. There was nobody at bagdrop and no one to let first time guests know where to go. The front nine took 3 hours. So, our entire foursome left after 10. We were very disappointed.
