Lochmere Golf Club

About
Located near the banks of Swift Creek, Lochmere Golf Club has plenty of water incorporated into the layout, coming into play on nearly every hole. The golf course stretches across a lush, gently rolling landscape sprinkled with mature trees and ponds. The terrain showcases the best in Triangle golf. At just over 6,600 yards it is not particularly long, but it provides plenty of challenges. It is a tight course that will test your accuracy with narrow fairways lined with trees. The small greens that are heavily protected by well placed bunkers demand thoughtful strategy and pinpoint control. The golf course offers a fair challenge but it is still accessible for beginners, especially from the forward tees. Lochmere G.C. is a favorite among Cary locals, both for its enjoyable design and its affordable rates.

Very enjoyable
First time playing on the east coast so the obvious difference between northern Nevada play and here were present. But the course seemed very well maintained for the price of tee times. I thought it was a great layout that wasn’t too difficult but still had some challenge. Where I’m from there’s not a lot of courses so prices just keep climbing. It was nice to play a course that’s cheaper than our muni with drastically better conditions.
Been playing here a lot more lately
Although this is the closest public course to my home, I avoided playing here for years due to drainage issues that kept the course soggy after any recent rain. It certainly appears the staff have fixed that issue. I've played here several times recently and each time the course has been in great shape - particularly the greens, which are superb. The layout is interesting and the staff very friendly. I'm very happy too have this course back in the regular rotation!
Good fun course to play with a good balance to easy & hard holes...... Fairway is narrower than the other courses I have played
Course was in great shape
Played 9 holes on the twilight rate today and it was in great shape. Greens were rolling smooth and fast and the fairways were in great shape. Pace of play was great, finishing 9 holes in 1 hour and 45 minutes.
It's in Cary... so expect to pay $$$$ for mid
Course is what it is. An easy track layout with some real up side aesthetically.
The problem is that there is little upkeep. There is no defined fairways/rough outline. The grass is shaggy and on multiple holes there were weeds in the fairway. The back tees were left uncut compared to the up tees. Just all around a very head scratching lack of mowing. We had rain 5 days earlier and it is a known soggy course after rain, but for what they charge, a clear fairway/rough cut is necessary. Disappointed at best with conditions. Staff was pleasant.
Fairway bad shape
Recent rains in the area may be the reason for fairways like ok like rough. However golf course should mention that on Golfnow and reduced rates.
Swampmere exists
I'd avoid this course at all costs. There is not one redeeming quality. It was nicknamed swampmere for a reason. After 4 days of no rain, the course was a mud pile. It's better suited to mudding then golf. Save your heartbreak, money, and time. Go somewhere else and enjoy your round.
Wet
I played with a member so I was able to get a lot of insight. The course is ina low laying area and was wet from the rain 2 days prior. I asked for a pull cart since it was cart path only and they didn’t offer pull carts. The gentleman I played with said it is always we and cart path only. Greens were in good shape and a nice layout. Just expect cart path only.
Lochmud
Great location and fair layout. That’s about all the positives. The pace is awful due to disorganized starting and way too many people walking. The rangers do little to help. The course is nearly always wet. That’ll teach them for building in a flood plane! Give River Ridge a try for a much better experience.
Been awhile
It’s been probably 15 years since I’ve played at Lochmere. So it was almost like playing a new course. I find the course challenging the fairways were OK. The weather condition was OK but the play was a little bit slow. Overall a decent course.
Lockmere GC
Considering recent heavy rains course was in very good condition. A friend & 2 others that were assigned for our tee time had a nice round. Will play again!
