Incredible slow play!
Quit after 14. There were 5 groups on this par 5 waiting to play. There were 2 couples holding up the entire golf course and there was no ranger. Had we completed our round, would have taken over 5 hours. Since we had driven over from Greensboro, that's one hour to the course, 5+ hours to play, one hour home. I'm not spending 8 hours to play golf anywhere!
SALEM GLEN
GREAT WEATHER AND COURSE AT GREAT PRICE THRU GOLF NOW.
Great experience
Even though it is late winner there was still plenty of grass to play off and the greens are perfect. I just wish it was closer to my house.
Good condition for time of year.
Played on a Wednesday afternoon. Course is in good condition. Greens were on the slow side but expected after the recent snow. Greens rolled quite good and had been taken care of. We played as a twosome and finished in under 3hrs even with cart path only restriction. This course continues to impress with the conditions it has been kept in the past two years.
what a green
best green I ever played rolls great. nice layout well maintained.
Good condition and challange
Excellent course for all levels of golfers. Rough very thick greens in good condition. Check pin placements as not color coded correctly on all greens.
Very nice facility
This course is a very nice layout. Wide fairways and great greens.
Excellent
This is simply a lovely experience all the way around. The topper might be a starter/ranger who was charming and on his rounds took time to stop and briefly chat with us about the pace of play, conditions, and our general feelings about our round or if we needed anything. Excellent.
TRANSPARENCY????
Greens had been aerified the previous week, nothing on golfnow reporting the aerification. It's a shame that the powers at hand didn't feel it was necessary to log in to their golfnow account and with a couple strokes of the keyboard alert potential customers of the course condition.
I understand that aerifying the greens is a necessary evil, but the bigger evil is letting someone show up to your course after reading wonderful reviews and finding a course that isn't up to par.
Now for the course itself, interesting layout with lots of water. Good mix between difficult holes and easy holes. Everything very green. Would have rated everything 5 out of 5 if not for greens.
Great day at Salem Glen
First time playing here. Was worried about course conditions due to all the winter kill in the area. No need to worry though, the course was in great shape! My friend and I play a variety of courses throughout the state, and the only course that we've played recently that was in better condition, was Pinehurst #8. We will definitely play here again! Did not get food or beverage, so I can't comment on them. Good deals in the pro shop too. My friend got a logo shirt for $19.
Nice place to play.
We very much enjoyed the course lay out. Each hole has its own personality. Most holes have several options as to the way the hole can be played, especially from the middle to front tees. The pace of play was a little slow due to one group that really backed up the golf course. A few of the bunkers need a little more sand but other than that, we really enjoyed everything else at this course. We will be going back. Hopefully soon.
Great Round
Excellent conditions and pace of play
Very reasonable price
Four score and seven years ago
Great !
Salem Glen is the best course I've played in the Winston Salem area . Whenever my friends from Chicago come down this is where we'll play !
Great Condition
Compared to many courses in the area, Salem Glen is in outstanding shape. Greens were fast but fair. The course is beautifully designed. Great fun!
The fore Amigo's
What can I say; the weather was good, sunny day not too hot. The lady that checked us in was friendly and courteous. The course for this time of year was in great condition, greens rolled smooth, just a tad slow. Pace of play really good, the guys I play with play at a less than four hour pace. The course wasn't overly crowded ( our tee time 12:53 ). Didn't rate the food and beverage because we already ate lunch and had plans to stop elsewhere for supper. Facilities were neat and clean. One last thing; the golfnow price was very good and we will be back.
Beautiful...
It was a beautiful course! However we were informed after the fact that it was cart path only. The sand traps weren't maintained at all. Albeit it had obviously rained the day before they could have been in better condition. We do plan to return in the near future.
BAD TRAPS
All the sand traps were washed out and full of water, basically unplayable. it had not rained since Wednesday when they got 4 to 5 inches.
The greens were good but shaggy and long. There was an outing there that afternoon and the greens were chewed up a little.
The fairways and greens were in good shape.
Pace of play is good as there are not many playing there
Great condition
Played several months ago when winter burn was still present. The fairways were in much better shape, but because of the recent rain, it was cart path only. There was a lot of cut grass on the fairways and a lot of water in some of the sand bunkers. Overall, given the recent weather, the course was playing well.
Course in GREAT shape
Head PGA Pro Jim and his entire staff were excellent and the atmosphere was so refreshing with every one trying to make your golf outing at Salem Glen all that it could be and they surely achieved their goal. The outing was much more than I expected, being the first time I have played Salem Glen and hopefully many more times in the near future. Hats off to the entire staff for making it a memorable golf trip.
Try it, you will like it!!
FIRST TIME TO PLAY THIS COURSE, and I was pleasantly surprised at its Excellent condition. The staff was first rate. I did not use eating facility, but it was exceptionally clean and neat. Staff friendly and outgoing. Course was challenging for me. I am 68 and do not hit the ball long. Short game was tested, and greens receptive. Clue for this course.....Hit the ball in the fairway. Many unseen trouble spots if you are not aware. LOVED IT>>>>>>
