Needs lots of work
Not sure what is going on around the golf course because it’s beautiful. But the actual golf course itself is awful. I really can’t honestly say anything much more other than if they can’t afford to invest in a 18 hole course, maybe 9 holes even. I would even look into making it a par 3 course. It was my first time and thinking this is Denver it has to be nice. Unfortunately, I was mistaken. The positive note. There is potential and lots of opportunities for investments. It would be great for the community to come together, discuss issues and agree to fix it up for Denver and the community. One I No people will pay money to play the game and they will pay good money for a good golf course. That’s my opinion.
Horrible condition
This course is in horrible shape. Hadn't been mowed in weeks. Weeds 18 inches high. Lost balls in fairway clover and weeds in fairways. Greens sanded but not punched. Cart paths not driveable. People driving on par 3s because they couldn't hurt them. Will never play there again. Greens fees were 50$. Then they asked for tips on machine for staff inside. Don't waste your gas and time
Westport202405
Decided to try out some courses we haven't played in a while. Wasn't expecting much due to other reviews but the course is rough to say the least. Staff is very friendly and we paid $31. Tee boxes are hit and miss with grass. Fairways are thin with some areas of just dirt that allow the ball to roll off into the woods. The greens were very bumpy.
The layout remains a good layout from years gone by but it appears maintenance is not able to keep the course conditions near good.
Horrible
Golf course is in horrible shape. You will loose your ball in the middle of the fairway. The fairways are thicker than the rough. We tried to get refund after 9 holes. They only offer rain checks. We told them we would just finish because we had no intentions of ever playing there again. The guy in the pro shop was very friendly and actually said we didn’t know when they would be cutting the fairways again. The only good thing about this course was the greens. Save your money and play somewhere else.
Works In a Pinch
Simply put, They need to invest more money into the course. The location is prime but the course is lacking. Greens are firm and very minimal signs of ball mark damage but they are SLOOOOOOOOOOOW! Great course if you are learning or just want to hit some balls. The price is certainly on the value side. There see Multiple spots of bare dirt. The layout is tricky. It is a tight course that provides a great challenge but not a lot of driver opportunities. I would go again in an absolute pinch but with time to plan ahead, this is probably not a course I would select.
Wanted to try a course I’d never played
It was a 45 minute drive to play one of the worst courses I’ve ever played. The only positive about this course is how great the staff were. The layout wasn’t great, lost 3-4 ball in the middle of the fairway because it looked like they hadn’t been cut it a while, when I did find my ball, it was usually sitting on dirt or rocks, the greens were in miserable shape, and the tee boxes were the worst I’ve ever seen in almost 40 years of playing. They were mostly dirt and only a half dozen or so were even marked. The ranger and the clubhouse staff were incredibly kind and helpful, but the course itself is atrocious.
Would rather be waterboarded than play here again
Staff is very friendly and beers are cheap. Being hammered may actually help your overall experience.
Took 4+ hours to play front 9 and didn’t even bother to play the back. Course is in abysmal shape and layout isn’t much better as holes are on top of one another, greens are covered in weeds and tee boxes look like a mortar range, some holes didn’t even have tee markers so that was fun. I’m not sure if they even own mowers or if they just let goats run around to keep the grass down (where there’s actually grass growing). The 3 groups in front of us included 8 women with zero awareness of pace of play or general golf etiquette. Literal nightmare. If you hit driver 280+ just go ahead and leave that bad boy at the house cause you won’t need it. Fairly tight course on the front 9 but even if you’re in the fairway you’re gonna be hitting out of the rough essentially cause it’s a cow pasture. There’s more sand in the divot fillers on the carts than there are in the bunkers. Riding on the cart path is also going to knock your spine out of alignment so enjoy that, my head is still bouncing around. This course should cost $7…per annual membership.
Bad day
The front 9 was in a bad state today. I lost two balls in the fairway today because weeds + some grass were 3-4in in the fairway! My playing partners also lost balls in the fairway…plus we found 4 balls in the fairway on the 2nd par 5, which indicates others lost balls there too.
The back 9 was also overgrown but better. We’ve had bad weather recently. I hope it’s better next time
GO ANYWHERE ELSE
Westport has seen better times, interesting layout with multiple lay up par 4s that leave a long approach for your second shot. The golf course conditions, awful. Fairways are a lot of dirt patches and the greens are some of the worst greens you can play. I had a ball bounce up two feet in the air off one of the thousands of weeds growing on the greens. The group I was with couldn’t believe the conditions of the greens. Yes there may be tee times here unlike a lot of the other courses in the area, there is a reason. Until this course decides to sink a lot of money into it stay far away and go to the driving range if there are no other tee times in the area. Your money will be way better spent doing anything else than playing here at the moment.
This course is in very poor condition.
It's been two years since I last played Westport GC. It's sad to report that this course is lacking ground maintenance of any level. The tee boxes must get the name "tee box" from the dozens of broken tees lying in the grass-less divots. The fairways have more bare dirt spots then grass. The greens are overgrown, bare and weedy. What a disappointing waist of time and money to play this course. It's a shame because the layout is good.
