Father / Son Round Part II
Had an 8:40 Sunday morning Tee-time. Arrived around 8:15 and was promptly checked in by a friendly gentleman in the well-appointed golf shop.
Starter (Dick or Buck?) with his canine partner (Willy?) were friendly and allowed us to tee off as a twosome at exactly 8:40, cautioning us it would be slow, as there were a couple of foursomes ahead of us. It's all about managing expectations. It was a little more waiting than you might like, mainly due to the fact that it appeared one member of the foursome ahead was either not a fan or unfamiliar with "Ready Golf" preferring instead to sit his large posterior self in the cart until everybody else had hit, then sauntering over to his ball and maybe hitting it, or maybe going back to the cart for another club. (If you had a 8:30 tee time on 8/9/20, maybe you can work with your buddy on his preshot routine.
The greens were perfect, but it's obvious this course gets a lot of play the non-ball repair crowd. Fairways are a bit uneven with several varieties grass competing for the dirts attention.
A full snack bar was available, but it does stink to be a mile from Sierra Nevada and you can't get a beer at this course (permit issues).
Unfortunate
Had two tee times, 1:56 and 2:04. When we showed up, we found out they had a huge tournament that day, and there would be a wait. We didn't tee off until 3:00. One of our foursomes gave up and left just before we started. While I understand that tournaments are given priority, it would've been better if we would've been told on the phone when booking that a large tournament was scheduled that day. Not sure when we'll be back.
Good Experience
Course was in good shape and held up during an hour long rain storm. Good drainage with the course and was able to continue playing. Fairways were a little soggy and greens dried out quickly.
I love this course.
Some days I beat this course and some days it beats me. The greens roll true and can be a bit slow, but the fairways are immaculate. Definitely would recommend. Might be a touch over priced.
Broadmoor is in excellent condition. Well worth playing for the money.
No starter = no rules
Pros: nice layout (only got to see front 9), water / lakes add character to the course. Also it’s the only flat course in the area.
Cons: I checked in early at 2:15 PM for a 3 PM round and the young kid in the pro shop told me that the starter had left for the day, I already voiced my concerns about the timing/pace of play, and sure enough when we came around the turn, for groups on the back nine Tee-box. Same young kid in the pro shop, I told him this is what I was concerned about what are we supposed to do now my friend and I had to leave and couldn’t even finish our round also the bar had closed already, simple common sense, if you have this many people on a Wednesday looking to play golf after 4:30 PM, leave the bar open and you can make thousands of dollars throughout the year, furthermore there was no sign of any management or professional workers there other than the young girl at the bar and the young guy at the pro shop all texting their brains out, horribly run course. If the airport decides to bulldoze this place down it will be a shame but clearly they do not care about their guests. I’m hoping they’ll give me a discount / free round because logistically / course wise, it seems to be worth the money if you get a hot deal. Greens were in good shape but many ball marks not repaired. Fairways were average.
Great course
Course is in great shape and the greens are perfect!
Still in great shape love this course right now, if the airport does away with this golf course I will be so mad
