Don’t go on the weekend!
I was paired up with a great group of gentlemen. Course was good, greens were slower, but in great shape. The only problem was the pace of play. We played two holes
in 50 minutes. The groups a head played very slow and did not waive us up on the par 3s. There were actually 4 groups waiting at one of the holes. I liked the course, but play it early and on a weekday!
Bunkers
Was in 3 Bunkers NONE had enough Sand was like hitting off a hard dirt road!
Greens were perfect, fairways in good shape Staff (Mike starter Jeff and Karin in restaurant) are excellent.
Santa Anita 5/10
Course was in good condition. Greens nice ,tee boxes on some holes a little beat up, but playable.
Like all So Cal courses bunkers hard as rock.
Pace of play decent 4:45 for 18. Backed up on the par 3s. No beverage cart or marshal to be found. Bev cart would be nice to keep pace going or everyone stops after 9 to get a drink..
First time playing at Santa Anita
This was my first time playing here, and overall I had a good experience. The course layout was nice, with some fun and challenging holes that kept the round interesting. I especially liked the finishing hole — it has a really cool design and a lot of potential.
That said, I was expecting the greens to be in better condition. It seemed like there may be some irrigation issues, as there were quite a few dry areas throughout the course, especially on the last hole. The course itself is enjoyable, but the greens leave some room for improvement.
Pace of play was also a challenge during our round. There was a group of five players ahead of us that created a major logjam, and the front nine ended up taking nearly three hours. I think stronger marshal presence and better pace-of-play management would make a big difference.
A couple other small things I noticed: there wasn’t a beverage/cart attendant driving around during the round, and the clubhouse entrance was a little confusing to find — I actually tried three different doors before finding the correct one.
Overall, I still enjoyed myself and appreciated the experience. I’m looking forward to coming back and hoping to see improvements with the greens and pace-of-play management next time.
Santa Anita is one of my favorite courses. I always enjoy playing there. Everything was up to park.
Pace of play 😕 1 hr thru 2 holes. 5 hours thru 15 holes then I gave up.
Over 5+ hours from tee time we finally finished 15 holes. On hole 8 was stacked up with 5 groups on the tee. No beverage cart ever seen. Do not recommend until they properly manage pace of play by using a course starter, on course rangers, and proper spacing of tee times. Also on weekends they need to reduce hole #8 to manageable distance. White tees hitting 195 is outrageous. Blue should be 170’ish and white 150’ish to improve pace of play.
Random Group Pairing
Paired with random group and had an excellent outing while picking up on some great tips and terms. Fairly new at the game learning to break out of stubborn shell. Other three were familiar with each other’s play tried not to slow them down. They definitely exercised patience. Lots of fun. Thank you Santa Anita!
Nice conservative couse
Course well maintained, fair price for par 71 course, no water hazards or hilly. Overall a good course.
5:30 hour round on Monday; 5some just killer
I've played here numerous times, but today was just a killer. On a Monday, 5:30 hour round - absolutely no reason for it. Terrible. Was told they were mandated 5somes, which gunked it up big time. Also told when they went from 4 to 5somes it kicked up playing time to 5 hour rounds immediately.
Bunkers were 1" sand, then cement. Skulled 2 shots over the green - horrible shape.
Hate to write these comments, but, not going back there for a while when there's many other choices in LA.
