Golfer Reviews
Decline and fall
Fox Hollow used to be a premier course in the area. No more. The owners are running it into the ground and milking it. Fairways choked with weeds, rough unplayable and apparently uncut-able. Bunkers ungroomed, surrounds a total mess. Several had some vegetation that looked sort of like alfalfa growing out of the soil ( not sure if soil or dirt the right term, but sand it’s not). Greens are grainy and slow, but to be fair, they have always been that way because of the coarse pas palum used there. The members we played with apologized for the conditions, I felt the value was less than average because of the sharp decline of conditions. Fox needs to seriously up their maintenance or this course will become one of many mediocre venues in the region.
Slow play
I played this course before and left positive reviews because I didn't have issues. This last round took four hours and fifty-two minutes. We received a message on our cart asking us to speed up play, but we were held up by a foursome that had a two-hole gap between them and the twosome in front of them. When I brought it to the pro shop's attention and asked where was the marshal to speed up play was, I was told the golfers don't listen anyway. Unacceptable response.
Needs Attention - Disappointing
This course has tremendous potential to be really nice but today it was highly disappointing. Just didn’t seem like it was well cared for. Fairways had numerous bald spots along with patches of weeds. Really disappointed in that this was recommended by a friend and the comments on GolfNow were pretty decent. The layout is awesome, but the quality of the course is just not very good. We would call this a goat track back in Texas and I am not trying to be rude, but it just seemed like there wasn’t much care being given to the course. The greens were in decent shape but very slow. All in all, I think the best description would be disappointing.
Back Home
Just was relocated for work back to Land O Lakes after 4 years out west. Chose Fox Hollow as my first round returning here because of the history of my experience over previous years. Definitely a good choice. The greens were 7/10, the fairways were a 7/10 but around the greens and the bunkers needed some extra attention. Those were 4/10.
I will definitely go back. I like the course. There is far more room than the typical Florida residential courses where if you miss a fairway your ball is in someone’s back yard. It’s always a good choice.
Love Fox Hollow
Fox Hollow is a great course that we enjoy playing
Lacking Ranger to keep up pace of play
Played midday and from the 8Th hole on, there were two to three groups on every hole. We left before 16th hole after a three hour plus back nine. Six holes in three hours is unacceptable
Wow
This place has really fallen off. I know we are in a drought. But this course looked nothing like the course I played here last year. I’m a local and there a lot of courses in far better shape than this in the area. Even on a hot deal I over paid.
Solid even through aeration
Caveat: we played very early in a Monday morning. Pace of play was amazing bc we were one of just a few duos going out in the first hour
Having played the course once before in November the conditions were comparable aside from the select fairways that had been aerated I nte week or 2 prior. That didn’t change our round much. If we landed in an aerated hole we simply played the ball up and moved to a “non divot” lie.
The greens are fun and challenging. The hole layouts vary enough to keep it interesting with the par 5 on the back nine and 18th hole clearly being the stand outs for both challenge and fun.
Highly recommend this course for all levels as they have 5-6 different tees to play from.
4-4.5/5 stars overall.
