Silver Dollar Golf & Trap Club - Gator/Panther Course
About
Located just northwest of Tampa, Silver Dollar Golf & Trap Club sprawls across the lush landscape of the west Florida coast. The club offers three nines: the Gator, the Panther, and the Bobcat. The nines can be played individually for a quick round or in three different 18-hole combinations. The Gator/Panther layout offers a good balance of challenges and player-friendly features. Narrow, tree-lined fairways are complemented by generous landing areas. There are sparkling lakes and ponds that come into play on a few holes and strategically placed bunkers are situated along the greensides. In addition to the three golf courses, Silver Dollar boasts one of the area's most extensive practice facilities, which includes a full driving range, two putting greens, a pitching and chipping green with a sandtrap, and three practice holes.

We can then all over the course Photo submitted by Gilbert3585586 on 05/27/2013
Browns not greens
Entire course soaking wet. I don't know what's worse, the trenchfoot i got from the soaking wet course or the fact that I paid probably quadruple what this course is worth. Do not go here. Literally losing balls in the fairway. Horrible
Kudos to the staff!
Considering the amount of rain we've had, they made the course playable and inviting.
Staff were not friendly.
First time playing this course. They had a bad storm come through the night before and some holes weren’t playable and all of the signs for the holes had been damaged which made things really confusing. All the staff were seniors who weren’t very friendly(We are a young group who aren fairly new to the game, but very respectful and wanting to learn), parked a cart on a very small slope and they rode their cart up to us yelling to get off the “hill” and you can’t park on anything but flat surfaces, which this was basically flat. No big deal re parked the cart and continued with our game. We had the first tee time of the day and nobody were behind us. We get to our 5th hole and they made us skip the 5th hole because we “were playing too slow and the people behind us were going to catch up” there was nobody behind us for at least 3 holes. They have multiple courses that all kind of run together, so we got a bit mixed up because they didnt have holes running 1-9 or 1-18 you had to go 1,2,5,8, then to another course #3,4,5,9,10,11(something like that) which was a problem for staff once more. Then we drove the cart “too close to the water hazard” we were at least 15-20 feet away and the only reason we even got that close was to avoid riding the cart through a very large puddle from the storm the night before, got yelled at again. At that point we got jipped one hole already and got fed up with being yelled at so we just called it quits and left. At this point still nobody had caught up to us and the closest players were now 4 holes behind us. I was really upset because the course looked really nice and when we weren’t being harassed by the senior staff I was having a good time and playing really well, almost had a hole in one on a par 3. I might return when they have all the signs up and you can play the courses as they are intended.
Never again
Pros - Ranger was very friendly and the course was pretty empty so pace of play was nice and fast.
Cons - Overall, to say the course was in rough shape, would be generous. I realize the entire course isn't open and they're working on it, however, the holes that are available are not good. Some greens were "okay" but most were terrible. The fairways were littered with crabgrass, bare patches, dirt, etc. It was a constant to "improve the lie." The rough was indeed rough...think of your backyard if you didn't mow it for 2 weeks.
Non golf related, but the gun range across the street is beyond annoying and distracting. It's like playing golf in a warzone.
You definitely get what you pay for here. I feel bad because this place looks like it could be so much better than what it currently is.
Horrible....
I understand they're working on some greens, but the Course overall is in horrible condition. A 2 star rating is where this course should be rated, and that's even a gift rating. If you like playing off bare or crabgrass infested tee boxes, this might be your course.
Gator & Panther Courses
Course conditions are pretty bad. The fairway is so bumpy it’s like driving a brick road, the grass on the green is very long. If you don’t make the fairway, your ball is gone, the rough is so rough that you can’t see anything. There was a sprinkler head on a tee box. The price kinda reflects the course - should have known better but I’d been on the shorter course the only other time I’d been here & it wasn’t bad.
Not Worth a Silver Dollar
The "course maintenance" was extreme!
The place is an absolute dogtrack!
Only a half dozen decent greens on the entire course.
It was worse than worse. Now I know why the parking lot was empty.
Terrible condition is putting it mildly.
I don't plan to return to this golf course (if you can call it that) ever again and do not recommend playing there.
Croquet Mallot Putter Needed
Croquet Mallot Putter Needed due to Greens grass being very long and bumpy. Cow pasture faiways so bumpy it jars your teeth. No wonder so few other golfers around!
1/5
Worst course I’ve played since moving to the area in 2024. I’ve seen fairways on other courses with shorter grass than all of the greens. Most greens unputtable. I stopped putting half way through the round. One hole is literally in the fairway. Won’t be playing again
Good course for the money
This is a very good course to play. not challenging (only a few holes) and the pace of play is very good. Very open and the fayrways are easy to reach. The greens and tees need work because they are not well maintained. An in some rough areas there is not point to look for the balls. they disappear.
Great course great people
Staff there was amazing. Pace of play was great and course layout was fun to play as well. great setup, and people were super friendly. This was one of the best courses I played just because of the atmosphere and how friendly the staff was. 10/10 Will definitely be back.
