Galleon/Brigantine at Shipyard Golf Club
About
The Galleon/Brigantine Course at Shipyard Golf Club combines two of the three nine-hole golf courses at the club. Galleon/Brigantine has a rating of 72.7, with a slope of 133 from the championship tees.
The original nine holes - Galleon - meander through large oak and tall pines. Accurate placement of approach shots into heavily guarded greens is necessary on this nine.
Designed by Willard Byrd and built in 1982, alligators sun themselves along the scenic, water hazard-filled Brigantine nine holes. With slight doglegs and well-placed bunkers, this golf course requires shot making and a good short game.

A nice day
We had a very nice day at Shipyard Golf Club. The layout of the golf course is enjoyable, with a few water hazards and bunkers that make the round interesting without being too difficult. The fairways were a little dry in some areas, but overall the course was still in good condition.
The pace of play on the first nine holes was quite slow, but it improved a lot on the back nine.
The staff at the pro shop and the bag drop were very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Overall, we enjoyed our round and had a great day at this golf course.
Shipyard
Ice course - greens had a little too much sanding . Enjoyed the gators.
Nice golf and very friendly staff
Se were very please by the welcome we receive and the course as very nice
Over priced
Front nine conditions and pace on the Galleon was good,
Back nine on the Clipper course was below par in both conditions and pace
greens and tee boxes needed work on the majority of holes.
Not worth it for money, many other courses in the area to pick from
Staff was very friendly
Little Rough
Liked the layout, some of the greens were below average with dead spots and new sod on the greens and fringe areas. Tee boxes were meh and thought the course would be greener at this point but the area has been in a drought. My first time at HH and Ship Yard and like it but not overly impressed.
Enjoyed the round overall. It’s overpriced in my opinion. Not as nice of a course as others that cost me $200 to play.
Needs a bit of work
Course needs a little bit of work. For the price I would expect a better condition for the greens and overall course. I know it has been dry but if that is the case give a dry discount or something.
Shipyard Golf
Only negative I have is that course fairways were not in the best conditions. Many times when the ball was in the fairway bounds the lie was on bare ground. Hard to execute shots consistently under those conditions. All else was fine.
dont bother
I was very disappointed in the shape of the course. There were greens with disease, tee boxes were horrible and the fairways had little grass. Played other courses in the area for less and better condition.
Still dormant in late April
I played this place many times, generally in late March and October. I played there the week of 4/20. It was cheaper to get a time on Golf now than using their website. When I get to the course the range is closed. I spent time on the chipping green and putting green checking with the starter multiple times. I'm paired with a nice couple, but he sends me out after they've teed. I catch them on the 1st fairway. The course itself is in rough shape, still in dormancy. Very little grass on many of the fairways. Greens were in decent shape. Some of them had dead areas, but mostly okay. Overall, my suggestion is to play somewhere else until this place wakes up. But given the winter & the drought just realize that you probably have better options.
Great course layout and staff, fairways and greens need work
First time playing Shipyard, the course layout is fun you will use all the clubs in your bag due to water hazards. The greens and fairways need water to promote grass growth. The staff, driving range, putting and chipping greens were in good condition. The pace of play was ok, mostly two and three sums playing.
Some Poor Greens
the tee off blocks were great, the fairways were Ok. However several of greens were repaired with pieces of sod and top dressed with sand as a result were very bumpy. The greens which were not repaired were in great shape. Needs a month or so with rain to get all the greens in better shape.
Surprised!
I have played this course many times in the past and I was really disappointed this time. First, the round was just over $200, next when we were read to go the starter said that they had over 350 golfers booked and to keep pace with the group in front of us which was no problem as we waited on every shot on every hole which made our round over 5 hours!
I was also shocked at how the conditions were, the 2nd hole on the clipper 9 the green was ground under repair and the starter said just putt twice then pick up and move on.
I just saw too many areas on the course that needed attention including the cart paths, which by the way didn’t have any GPS for the price!
The only upside was the layout, the new tee boxes , the bunkers and the amount of alligators we saw. And rather large also!
Can’t really say that I will return as I wasn’t happy with my overall experience, it appears it’s all about the $$$…
Overbooked
We got to the tee 10 minutes early and were informed they put a 2 some ahead of us who didn’t have a time. We were 20 minutes late and from there it took 3 hours to play the front, we played 10 and eleven and things were the same so we quit. Who knows how many other walk ons they took which made it impossible to play
