Toka Sticks Golf Club
About
Unlike many other courses in Phoenix, the course at the Toka Sticks Golf Club was not done in a traditional desert-style. It is known amongst locals for having very fast greens, many of which are elevated. The old Toka Sticks course was originally a nine-hole course built in 1945 but in addition to making it an 18-hole, championship course, it has had many renovations in the years since to make it a more challenging and interesting course. There are stately trees present on the course call for straight shots in order to reach the narrow fairways. Two lakes are situated on the course that create water hazards that come into play on sever holes. There are also several well-placed sand bunkers throughout. Toka Stick Golf Club also offers a short game area, a putting green and a driving range.

Uh Oh Water Issues
Played 5/4, not paired. Hardly anyone playing and once we saw the course we figured out why. The whole course was dead, greens were spotty green. Asked what happened, was told their water well pumps were out of order for a couple of weeks, just now are repaired. Most likely will be awhile before this course is back. Nothing about this on their website! It’s a decent track when the course is nice. The staff there is extremely nice!
Dry and Firm
Everything from the Tee Boxes to fairways to the greens are super and dry and extremely firm. Tees breaking when trying to tee your ball up. Bunkers have no sand and basically just desert/rock. If you hit the green your shot will bounce and be long. Insane how much they charge just for you to play rock hard surfaces
Overpriced: Dead grass
I played this course with my son because we went out on a whim and it’s close to home. Greens fees were about $100 per player on a Saturday afternoon. You can find much better value with courses close by. Fairways were full of dead grass. Greens were in bad shape. In most places around the course you can’t discern rough from fairway due to the lack of playable grass. I will cross Toka Sticks off my list of courses to play. It is definitely not worth the greens fee with other worthy courses close by.
Burnt and bad shape
The course was completely burnt up and dry. I guess they had some problem with their water is still charges full price. Of course it was the worst shape course I’ve ever seen in my life.
Course is really bad
I have played Toka Sticks numerous times over the last 7-8 years. Always lush and green. We got to the course and it was all brown, nothing green about it. As we were waiting to go to the tee box, started was telling us their water pipe to the underground water reserve was broke and had been 3 weeks trying to get it fixed. They hoped to have water on the course that afternoon.
We teed off and instantly you see, no grass on the course to stop your ball, rolled forever, the greens, wouldn't hold a shot onto them, everything rolled off no matter how high or even how short you hit, it was off the back of the green. You placed your putter on the green to lean down and grab your ball, it would literally fly along the green as if it was on glass.
The bunkers were nothing but a spec of dirt on hard concrete.
If this condition was brought on by the lack of water, it should have been told to us before the round began and like Foothills a few years ago, you should have closed the course for a week or so to get water back on it, or offered discounts. Totally unacceptable playing conditions. Will give it a month or so to try and see if they get it green again.
DO NOT PLAY HERE. Watering issues.
They have not watered their fairways in what must be weeks. Everything is dead and hardpan. Yet they want to charge full rate. They're taking advantage of people who don't read reviews.
Don't drop a match..
Or the place will go up in smoke... I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with the current state of the course. I played a round recently for my son’s birthday, and the fairways were drier than any active course I have ever seen—it looked closer to a facility that had been closed down.
While we didn't ask for a refund at the time because we wanted to honor the birthday celebration, a member of your cart staff informed us that a well is broken and may not be fixed for another 2–3 months.
If the course is unable to maintain standard playing conditions due to infrastructure failure, that should be disclosed at the time of booking. Charging full rates for "worst-ever" conditions is not a sustainable way to treat your regulars. I’d like to know what the plan is for service recovery for those of us who paid for a premium experience and received a "broken" one.
Rough…
The course doesn’t look like it’s been watered in weeks. The greens are like concrete. The entire staff just seemed annoyed to be there… except for the starter, he was actually kind! The experience here used to be much better. Won’t be headed back any time soon.
Terrible
The water system is not working, and the course is hard pack brown -- not worth playing, especially at the price.
It was all yellow
Like the Coldplay song except it interrupted your favorite song and the record broke for 4.5 hours
Sandlot Conditions At Full Price
Terrible conditions, fairways are dry and dead, tee boxes are more sand than grass. Greens were terribly dry as well. $95 for conditions not even worth $20. Don't waste your time here, avoid at all costs.
All dried up
Have sign in pro shop that they have a water issue. Course was burnt out and brown throughout, yet they charged us full rate. Shameful. Won't be back.
Not great
Course layout is basic and greens are were challenging and in decent shape. Fairways were nothing but dead grass and like playing off cement.
Fairways were very dry out
I think it's a great course but the fairways were very dry and hard which for the money was very disappointing.
enjoyable day
greens were very good , fairways were hard, tee boxes ground was hard trying to stick tee in ground . Pace play was excellent less than 3.5 hrs Overall good experience
