Golfer Reviews
Sandy greens
Overall great track! Too bad the greens were sandy and putting was a challenging.
Fun Course but failed to inform us that the green were aerated
I’ve been playing golf in the Bay Area for 3 decades and somehow never played the course. I noticed right away that the track was going to be fun to play with the terrain and well placed bunkers. The main complaint was that there was no mention of aerated greens on Golf Now or at time of check in. The rates were not discounted which made the cost really hard to swallow. With that being said, most of the course was well maintained and the layout was inviting. The staff were friendly throughout.
Wow
First up.. they comped the golf cart because the course was punched and sanded..I know nothing about golf course management or maintenance:: but there is a ton of sand on those greens, some spots almost 1/4,inch..
the fairways were soaked, muddy spots all over/ . The bunkers all had water in them and were just below hardened cement. LLGC should either spend the money to properly maintain the bunkers or just fill them in. It’s just beach quality sand:: horrible.. they are always in bad shape. I like this golf course, but management needs to fix this stuff. The T’s were just ok.
I went out as a single at 8:30 am.. they put me between a 4some and 3some.. it was horrible; 4some took forever and the 3some was right on my tail. Horrible day.
Weather great.
Extremely slow play, rude group in front of us
We called the marshal and even that didn't help.. it has always taken over 5 hrs 30 mins to finish a round of 18 here.... I really dont want to play here again.
Challenging greens for amateurs
Fairways are slow and there was more shag around the fairways than I usually see, making it hard to hit from the edges. There was a bit of sog and standing water on the periphery throughout the 18 holes. For the most part everything is kept in pretty good condition. This time of year (fall) it's hard to keep the course clean and clear, and there were sycamore leaves everywhere. Made it really tough to find balls in the rough, and even on some of the fairways. The greens are some of the largest and most challenging I've ever played.
Slow play on a Very hot day
The course was in great shape. The pace of play for the first nine was also great. Unfortunately, it doubled for the last 9 holes due to the VERY slow play of a threesome and a foursome in front of my group of 3. The temperatures that afternoon reached 100 by the time we finished a round of 18 holes thar we had been on track for finishing early until the "roadblock" in front of us. I suggest that. Los Lagos Golf Club supply Marshalls to drive on the course periodically to encourage faster play from slow groups. Also, it would be very nice if the course had cold water dispensers on the course for overheated golfers. After 13 holes of golf in very hot temperatures, most golfers will need more water than what they brought with them. I appreciate that amenity on other courses like Spring Valley in Milpitas. Hopefully, no cases of heat exhaustion caused play to stop completely on that very hot September day last week.
Carts
Our cart broke down on the very first hole, it just died.
Horrible pace of play
5 hour round for a par 68 course is just unacceptable. Will not be back. Unbelievably annoying. Slowest golf in the bay and that’s saying something.
Los Lagos
Some of the greens were rough. The call cleaning stations were poorly maintained: some had no water, some were missing bristles and towels
Good value
This is a short course where you get to use just about all of your clubs during the round!
Not what I expected
This is a short course with many par 3s. I am disappointed that they do not have a dress code. I saw most people playing in T-shirts, sweatpants, sandals, one guy in pijama pants. These outfits are a disrespect to the sport. I am never coming back. I would rather pay 20 more dollars and play Coyote Creek.
Nice, but here are the negatives
Sprinklers were on around the greens,
Pin placement was extreme for the size of the greens often way too close to the fringe. The actual distances were off from the scorecard, white tees played more like the blue tees! Also, you can’t drive carts into the parking lot. Personally, I think the person responsible for placing the pin locations was either fighting with their spouse at the time or was ticked because of the GHIN low course rating and slope. !!!
Poorly maintained muni course
I've played here before but it seems like the place is going downhill. Pace of play sucked on front 9, but got much better on the back. Bunkers were either hard or muddy. Long rough close to the pin, lost a few strokes there. Weird layout with lots of par 3s and difficult part 5s. Landscaping around clubhouse was gross, do they not care? If you have low expectations, you won't be disappointed.
Friday twilght
Played a Friday twilight round at Los Lagos and, as expected, the pace of play was slow, but the course was in decent shape & the weather was excellent, making for an enjoyable day on the course.
The greens need improvement, there were quite a few unrepaired pitch marks that affected the overall putting surfaces. Players doing a better job repairing ball marks would go a long way toward improving conditions.
There was only one employee both the concessions & the bar, which resulted in a line at the turn. Because of the wait, I ended up skipping food and drinks altogether.
Overall, despite a few areas for improvement, it was a good round with great weather and a pleasant experience at Los Lagos. I would return for another twilight round.
Slow play, no marshalls
Played 15 of 18 because of the slow play. Took 5 hours to play 15. Play in front of us was slow - group 2 ahead were over 2 holes behind at the turn. When our other pair quit at 9, play became even slower with no one “playing through”. Friday afternoons in summer are unbearably slow, and no one monitoring the pace.
