This is a course you don’t want to miss. Among the many courses in the Bay Area, this course has some unique features and challenges. It is well maintained to a good condition.
Outstanding Old-School Design
This course has grown on me very much, to the point where I appreciate it more each time I play. If you judge a course by the scorecard, length, slope and rating, your expectations of SJCC will be very far from reality. The course is short, but the hilliness makes almost every hole play a lot longer. The greens are TINY and very very difficult due to a lot of contour. This is old-style golf at it's best. Shot values are very high, and if your short iron game is not spot-on, you will find yourself with some very difficult short-game shots and putts. A wonderful Tillinghast course.
That said, the value for the membership could be a lot better. SJCC advertises itself as a "great golfing value," and it's not a bad deal, but it's certainly not cheap to play.
