Great layout, not for the price.
Great course layout. Needs a lot of TLC. Members are not very tolerant of GolfNow players so be aware. Fairways hold a good amount of water. Course has so much potential. Not worth 100 though.
Greens ruined the round
Greens were very bumpy and slow. It was more accurate trying to put in a simulator. Fairways were in great shape, but tee boxes were horrible and rough hadn’t been mowed. Have played here a number of times and this was really disappointing.
Poor Course Maintenance
I expected more for $100 dollars per person for a round. The course was not well maintained and the greens were awful. The course needs a lot of work and is not worth the price. The round should not have cost more than $30 dollars per round. I’m hopeful they fix the course and maybe I will give it another chance. Highly disappointed.
Disappointing
I’ve played this course over several years. Now that they are under new ownership, I was concerned about how much investment will be put into this course. The greens were terribly disappointing. For Bermuda greens in the middle of the summer to be this bad is a reflection on the new ownership. These Green should be filled in and perfectly manicured by now. It was hard to make a pot with the ball, jumping all over the place.
Sand traps also were in terrible condition as if they had not been raked in quite a while. Lots of gravel also.
What happened????
I’ve played this course before a year ago and it was in great shape at that time. For this outing, I was hosting friends from other cities so I wanted a course I had some familiarity with and liked, thus the choice. Golf shop attendant was not so friendly. I loved the starter who was very friendly though he gave no course info to the 3 unfamiliar players. The course conditions were of the greatest concern - 1) there were at least 4 holes with real water issues (constantly running creating soft, undriveable, unplayable conditions in those spots 2) the greens were a mess! (Most folks blamed management’s decision to allow play through very cold parts of the winter) the best way I can describe it is there were craters all over which made them extremely inconsistent and unable to judge speed and/or breaks.
I really want to like this place but they seem to be having issues right now with maintenance and management. I would encourage people to steer clear and let them work this out before returning as there are better options for the price.
What happened to Chapel Hills?
I've been playing Chapel Hills since 1998. Yesterday was the worst condition I've seen in all of those years. The greens, which were fine in April, are bumpy, with patches of grass missing and basically impossible to putt upon. The fairways needed mowing. The rough was uneven and extremely deep. Did all the mowers break? Is there no water for the greens? Also, several bad spots in fairways due to either water pipes bursting or something. Especially on #1. Many holes under repair. Hopefully they can get this back to where it should be
Fun playable course
The greens must have been recently punched and sanded. That was the only negative issue with the course. We will be back to play the course as it is a favorite.
Greens were destroyed by incompetence
Golf Now app should have been notified in advance of the Greens condition. One Sunday a month to play golf, charged a $100, drove 40 minutes to a course in terrible condition. A full refund wouldn’t be enough to forgive this waste of time. The course should be closed until the greens are restored.
Greens were patchy and average at best conditions. Hard to roll any putts with confidence with the ball bobbling around. Driving range conditions were poor, mainly due to the fact that grass isn’t cut and you’re hitting out of thick rough. Tee boxes are average as well and not well maintained. Fairways were in good shape. Extremely overpriced for what you’re getting. Won’t be back.
Not happy with green conditions
The track in itself is fun but it’s not maintained. For a +$90 round I would expect the greens to be in better shape.
Bamboozled
So I got there, hoping that everything was gonna be great gonna enjoy the nice weather and play some golf. The club house itself is set up in such a way where either you have to walk all the way around to bring your clubs around or you can walk through the clubhouse and then go outside with your clubs, which is easier.. the cashier attendant went off on me for bringing my clubs inside and then taking them outside which was OK. He was liight with it, but I’m like you have to walk a long way just to bring your clubs around. But the most important part is we paid $72 for 18 holes of Golf and the greens were despicable!!! After all of that conversation he had reprimanded me about bringing my clubs in. He never once mention that the greens were horrible for $72 I should at least be able to putt without the ball bouncing all around. It was horrific at this point even though I like Chapel Hill’s layout I will not go back cause I don’t see how even punching these greens or aerating them would ever bring them back especially for $72.
Declining Condition
I’ve played this course several times but haven’t been for about a year. The conditions have really declined. Greens looked burnt (bumpy, patchy grass), lots of worn spots around fairway, poor bunker maintenance, deferred maintenance around tees (to hole tee was close to being overgrown by weeds). Also, whereas before warmup range balls were included, they now have a pay machine on the range ($8 for 35 balls). Not worth the money ($95 including cart) when for a similar price Wolf Creek and West Pines are nearby.
Avoid until they get greens back!!!!! Way overpriced for the condition…
Played today and greens are horrible. They lost greens and did not mention when calling in or before paying $100 to play. I brought 12 guys to play and was preparing for the comments as we go around and play some super nice courses. The grounds superintendent does not take care of the tee boxes and has let the greens die out. Members of the course are the ones that warned us of the poor conditions while on putting green watching our ball bounce through the dead spots. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!
Work needed
Surprised to find out range was not included anymore. Not an issue but would have been nice to know.
Greens were HORRIBLE! Not sure if there is a disease or something but they need some TLC bad!!! CH has always been know for their greens so that was shocking. Will see them in late Aug/Sept to see if they recover.
Getting worse
I have played the course a number of times and have always enjoyed it. I have noticed recently the course conditions have been going downhill a bit. Yesterday the greens were in awful shape and the rest of the course isn’t as good as it has been. Will not go back for a while.
Waste of money
THE GREENS ARE HORRIBLE. THEY ARE ALMOST DEAD AND IN SPOTS ARE DEAD. THEY ARE SLOW, BUMPY AND SHAGGY. THIS USED TO BE THE BEST COURSE IN DOUGLAS COUNTY AND NOW THE OWNER RUINED THE BEST PART, THE GREENS. (AND YES I AM SHOUTING!) They have cut back so much on maintenance it’s a joke. Ropes and posts left laying around. Tree and bushes trimmed and left where they lay. Tee boxes many are dirt and poorly trimmed.
