Golfer Reviews
Rough is Impossible
The course is OK, but the rough is impossible to play from, even right off the fairway. They really need to do some maintenance on the course to make it at least manageable in the rough.
Chapel Hills
Played Chapel Hills at 1:00 pm on 8/14/26. It was myself and one other friend, and pace was so good, we were never held up. Played a 3 hour round, which could have been 30-45 minutes quicker, had the rough been cut shorter than 4-5 inches. The previous reviews are accurate concerning the rough. You could hit one several feet off of the fairway and while looking for your ball, find 3 or 4 more that people gave up on. You would almost have to step on it to see it. Don't try to get any distance on your shot from there, either.. very humbling. Tee boxes aren't great, but as long as my feet are level, I'm alright. That being said, the fairways are in great shape, and the greens were in good condition, too, especially considering the recent reviews. I didn't come across any diseased or dead spots (all green, no black or sand patches) and they were rolling with some speed. It isn't quite back up to the pristine conditions they usually had back when I was a member 2020-2023, but they are defenitely working on it. It's worth the GolfNow hot deal, for sure. I'll be putting it back into my rotation, and hopefully they lower the height of that rough.
Good course but need some maintenance
I have played here several times, and it was in good condition. I enjoy playing the course and like the layout a lot. However the greens were very slow and bumpy, almost like they haven’t been cut in a while. Made putting extremely hard to judge. Also the rough was super think and was hard to find your ball if it went in. Course could
Use a good cutting and cleanup of all the dead grass clippings. Still recommend playing the course.
Stay away
horrible conditions, poop on multiple greens, 5+ HR pace, rough 5 yds off the fairways and around the greens were way too thick where u would lose your ball / place has gone downhill
Stay Away
I do not recommend this course at all / 5+ HR round, Rough was too thick to find balls even 5 yards off the fairways and right along the greens, aprons of the greens were super long, goose poop on multiple greens
Nice course
The course is in good shape but the rough is way too severe. There should be a first cut that is not so high, all you can do if you’re 6 inches off the fairway is hack it out. Overall great place, just too severe for the average golfer
Example of a great course that has been neglected!
This course has a great layout and is fun to play. However, golf course ownership/management has totally neglected maintenance requirements to keep it playable. It is a disaster and there should be crimes against the owner charged!
Great course
The course is in good condition, fairways and greens
Expect to loose your golf ball if you hit in the rough
If they curb the rough I’d rate it at 5 stars
Nice Course
First time playing Chapel Hills after many years, was pleasantly surprised. Course was for the most part in great shape. Very good layout, friendly staff!
Flawed but still Decent.
Addressing previous reviews, the grooming has begun. It’s still long rough, covered by clippings of fairway that was previously neglected, and now burnt low on more than a few holes. You’ll lose balls in/under those clippings, they need to be blown off the course completely. The Greens need a lot of attention. Very slow and need a bit of a press still. I know I’m being more critical, but I still enjoy the course layout and the staff! With some real attention to the grooming of the course, this could be a pristine play for a reasonable price.
Fun layout, tough condistions
Just played on 8/2/2026. Greens were thicker cause of aeration, but still decent. The fairways were okay, but the rough was ridiculous. Several minutes looking for your tee shot that ended up 5 feet off the fairway. Very little forgiveness on this course. If your ball goes into the woods, it’s too dense to search for it. Basically don’t miss the fairways and you’ll have a good round. If Bryson Dechambeau was going to play this course, I’d tell him to be very ~strategic~
Nice Layout, 1st cut of rough is brutal
The fairways need to cut finer and some parts of the fairway I could not tell the difference between where the 1st cut of rough and fairway began. The 1st cut of rough is thick and deep. You can be 3 feet off the fairway and cannot find your ball unless you are on top of it, several times you would spend 2-3 minutes just looking around so track your shots closely. Greens were also a little fuzzy and needed to be mowed shorter.
Nice layout, terrible conditions
I've never played what should be a nice course that is so poorly maintained. The greens were furry, lumpy, bumpy and had yesterday's trimmings still on the surface. The grass on the tee boxes was probably 2" tall. The fairways were nice, mostly. The bunkers were hard pan clay. The layout was fun but I can't imagine why anyone would pay to be a member at this club. Kind of sad because it has great potential. The only food at the 19th hole were hotdogs, seriously. And this is a semi private club! Tough to imagine.
I hate bashing on anybody or any golf course but this place just looked like nobody cared. Or it's heavily underfunded or under staffed.
Rough conditions
I typically never leave reviews, but in this case, I felt like I needed to. This course could be really nice if it were better maintained.
- the fairway grass was so high that we often couldn’t find our ball, even if we knew that it was in the fairway. The back 9 was in a little better condition than the front.
- the greens were really tough. They looked great from a distance, but we noticed that there were several deficiencies that made it hard to put with accuracy.
What Happened?!
played this course about two years ago and it was in perfect condition. Today the greens were bumpy, inconsistent, almost not puttable. Also most of the fairways were overgrown. I was in the middle of the fairway but had difficulty finding my ball.
The course layout is great but maintenance is lacking almost nonexistent.
What has happened to this course…not good either?
I have played here several times. Even broke 80 for the first time here at Chapel Hill. I am not sure what happened it they have let this course go.
The range was closed because the ball dispenser was broken. No signs.
The fairways were not cut. They are high like the first cut. The rough was US Open ready, but mainly because not cut.
The greens had more bumps and were sooooo slow and over grown.
The guy in the pro shop was horrible. Rude and jokes were not appropriate.
It feels like they let the grounds keepers go! This is horrible
Can’t even mow the grass
Avoid this mess of a golf course.
Rock bottom?
Course in horrible shape. Rough not mowed, fairways not mowed, greens not mowed, bunkers not groomed. Waste
Course in bad shape
To start the grass on the driving range was not cut it was like hitting from high ruff. The fairways were not cut very shaggy , the ruff was so tall you couldn’t hit the ball out of it with any kinda of club that would travel 185 yards at the most . The greens I was told were much better but they were very bumpy and slow . Course use to be very nice and a lot fun to play but the price they are charging I will not go back .
