Southland Golf & Country Club

Went out on a rainy Monday during the day, and the greens were in great condition. Course was in decent shape in general, although the tee boxes and fairways had some rough patches. At this price for 18, though, it’s still the best value in Atlanta. Staff were super laid back. Had a good time playing as a single with no time pressure around.

This course needs some work. The club house looks like it’s just holding on. Everything looks like it hasn’t been updated since it was built. The course: Tee boxes need work. There are some that you can’t hit off of because they are just rocks and dirt. There are some that a just rock hard and you can even push a tee into the ground. There we also some where the grass was as high as the 1st rough. The fairways we in good condition just the grass clippings need to be blown away. The greens we amazing. Top notch free greens for sure. The cart paths were horrible all the way through. This course should be $35 not $50 on a Friday.

First, it was obvious when I pulled up that the course and facilities were in disrepair. Both need a lot of work and it remained the same throughout the round. The staff were super kind, asked me to wait 20 minutes so I could join another single and offered a free bucket of balls while I waited. Unfortunately, upon the golfer's arrival, he refused to ride with anyone. This led to me going off first and alone. By the 6th hole, I caught up to a foursome and sat politely behind them for 8 holes during which they refused to wave me up. I finally skipped a hole and passed them. They were older gentleman who appeared to be regulars. It would be nice if etiquette advice was provided during check-in. In reality, they knew better. The course is a fun layout with tight doglegs, interesting holes and I really enjoyed that aspect of it. But, everything, except for the greens, were in disrepair. The golf carts, the paths, the course, etc. One surprising positive note was the greens were in relatively great shape in contrast to the course.

It really was a shame to see such a great course layout in such poor shape. I probably won't be back unless I hear someone purchased it and put the money in the course and facilities that it deserves.

I think if you can expect and look past the rough shape, it's a fun and challenging course to add to your list of courses to play at a fair price.

For $40 on a Friday afternoon, it's hard to imagine a much better golfing experience around here. The pace of play was great, the staff was friendly, the greens rolled true and the fairways and rough were in pretty good shape. The sand traps need a bit more sand (and some rakes), the tee boxes are mostly bare, and the cart paths are barely passable in some areas. This is definitely a course where you'll want to pack your own water/cooler. All in all, I'm looking forward to going back.

The course layout is very good. The greens were in very good condition; the tee boxes on the front nine needed a lot of work, the tee boxes on the back nine were much better. The cart paths were in really bad condition. The golf carts were gas powered and we were worried they were going to die in the middle of our round I had to pump the gas pedal to get it to start, the brakes barely worked, not very safe. We payed $65 per golfer, definitely not a $65 value. If you can get a tee time for $25 or less you might consider golfing here, otherwise I cannot recommend this course. The staff is not going to go out of their way to help you, so if customer service is something you value this is not the course for you. Between the golf carts in such disrepair and the customer service and what we paid for a tee time, I couldn’t help but think we were on Candid Camera.

First the Good:

• Staff was friendly

• You won’t find any better greens at any public course in the metro ATL area

• Challenging fairways (hilly course)

Now the Bad:

• Bring your own beverages. No beverage cart, no water stations in the course. Only regular sugared drinks (Coke and Powerade) at the ‘club house’.

• All but one sand bunker had sand on it

• Cart paths are in horrible shape ALL are damaged from roots

I wish this golf course could find some investors to put some money in the facilities. It would be a gem if the cons mentioned above could be addressed. Would I play again? Absolutely I would, but I ‘ll have an open mind of what to expect once I return.

There are some very good things about the golf course and there are some very bad.

The good: fairways are in great condition, greens roll true, a little slow but roll perfectly, the course layout is challenging but fair except for number 8, which makes no sense at all, the staff is very nice, and since hardly anyone is on the course, the pace of play is excellent. Value for money is great.

The bad: I used to not care, but the cart path conditions are too bad for me to handle anymore. There is no way to explain how bad they are. Tee boxes: most of them are OK, but some have no grass, and you can't even get your tee in the ground. Carts- someone will get hurt one day. No breaks. Nothing to eat at the clubhouse except a candy bar or two; no water to drink on the course (although the pro shop person reminded me of that and asked me to take extra water and ice with me; number 10 does not come back to the pro shop), and the clippings from the grass cut do get in the way of ball rolling in the middle of fairways.

So it just depends on what you are looking for. If you want a good course with good value and no one around pressing you so you can play at your own pace, this is it; if you want a premium "golf experience" that goes beyond golf, this is not it.

Fairways and green in great shape. Rough should be cut down lower. Traps, cart path, no water on course keep people away. Still a good respite getaway. Greens are fantastic. I woul play again despite the downside stuff. Bring your cooler with drink and food and you will enjoy.

Great lesser known course that is perfect for mid week and weekend play. Not to crowded and prices are very reasonable.
