Getting Better
New owners are spending the money and doing the things needed to make a first class facility
Food and beverage is also doing great
Hidden Gem
Have not been here in awhile and I don’t know why. Conditions were great as always and I like the layout overall. Holes 12-15 are closed right now but they are having player go back around and play 1-4 to make up for it.
Disappointing
Nice layout with lots of undulation. Sadly, the fairways are in rough shape. Greens rolled pretty well. Needs a lot of work to get it to where it should be. Won't play here again.
CC Gwinnett course is being greatly improved
I played there many times the past 5 yrs. Reading some if these reviews compelled me to write this. The Course was in really bad shape, excluding the greens, 16 months ago before the present owners, McKinley Homes, bought the club. Since then, they have invested thousands $$ made massive improvements to the buildings and the course. When it was up for sale the fear was it would be auctioned off and replace w houses, No more golf there. The improvements have steadily continued w some holes being worked on w little inconvenience until the work is done. The kitchen also has great food, events, and specials on Facebook. Joe Shirey, Gen Mgr is doing great job running operations including advertising the course low $ rates and its amenities online. Greg Karbowski
Nine holes at Countey Club of Gwinnett
My daughter and I were told to play with another couple ( they were fantastic). We finished the first hole and a man drove up to us from the group behind us and claimed he was a “marshal” and we were playing slow and we had to let them go ahead of us. This man was not a “marshal” and we weren’t playing slowly. We let them pass us and they were slower than us. Not fun! The tee boxes need a lot of work! Also, the fifth hole is temporary. It’s a forty yard par three. The greens were in excellent condition but the cart paths need major work. The starter was very friendly and helpful. Lastly, our golf cart kept dying on us (not just on the fairway but also on the cart paths). I use to play here all the time and was looking forward to this round of golf with my daughter. I have personally played here close to one hundred times in the past. I expected better and was, sadly, disappointed.
Fix the Greens
The greens have weeds growing and needs repair. The greens use to be real good.
Construction , and more Construction
The course is undergoing major renovations.
Trees are cut down, leaving a ton of wood whip everywhere. Giant hole in the middle of the fairway, renders #5 unplayable. On the day I played, 3 holes are affected.
Cart path is a rocky ride. Greens are OK, with weeds here and there.
I have certainly seen this course in better shape. I reckon it will be awesome next year, when all the work is completed.
Poor Management and Terrible Conditions
Terrible experience. GolfNow showed 18 holes when I booked, but the receipt I received listed only 9 holes, and at check-in they even asked for an additional fee. Fortunately, I had screenshots of the 18-hole booking and payment, so I didn’t pay extra. However, the back nine was closed, and we were forced to play holes 1–9 twice instead of a proper 18-hole round.
There was no starter at the first tee, which caused four groups to pile up on hole #1 at the same time. Course conditions were awful — tee boxes had no grass and were filled with sand so tees wouldn’t stick, and the fairways were uneven, soggy, full of weeds, and poorly maintained.
Overall, communication, management, and course quality were unacceptable. This was a very frustrating and disappointing round
Nice course
Nice course. Great pace. Convenient driving range. All good
Great Course
Our first time at this course and we all had a great time. The only thing we didn't like was that we were not told that the back 9 was closed for the day. We only found out when the food cashier told us while stopped after hole 9. So, we had to play the front 9 again and it was much slower because other tee times were starting.
Only front nine was available to play twice. Only played the nine once.
Back nine closed for tree removal
I played the front nine only, though no one informed me that the back nine was closed until I got to the 10th tee to find no tee markers. I also saw no flags on any of the back nine holes, or any golfers. The greens were in good shape and fairways were mostly good. I was a little surprised to find weeds just off a couple of the greens and there were wet areas. The good news is that they are removing some trees from several of the back nine holes that are tight with them there.
Play it again!
Course back nine is under landscaping tree removal and renovation to open it up. We played the front nine and the fairways were mowed well, some standing water on fairways due to recent rains. Greens weee slow. Overall the front nine has nice views and was fun to play. Looking forward to the back nine renovation being completed.
Staff was friendly and helpful.
