Country
Great course - greens plays fair everything you'd want - challenging but fair!
Could be so much better
This is a great track but the greens are crazy. They seem like they havent been cut or rolled. Or maybe just rolled and not cut. They were all over the place in pace. One was lightning, the next the opposite. A lot of different looks and feels between every other green. Just incredibly inconsistent. And then two holes were closed! No mention of it whatsoever. That's just inexcusable.
Not worth the money.
This course was NOT worth the $70 required to play. Literally EVERY green had a ring of sand that looked like a moat surrounding it. Good luck if you landed short of the green. There was also zero warning about this and zero explanation. The beverage cart only came around to us once (on hole 3). Hole 15 was closed due to “maintenance”.
They are putting in the effort to make this an excellent course
CC Gwinnett has a history of being a very "consistent" mid-priced course. You could count on the greens being mid-speed and true. Good to get your putting speed in shape. The layout is good even if tight. Facilities are good.
The previous ownership almost ran it into the ground. Holes in the greens, patches of weeds, no grass at all on the tees, etc. This was combined with a HORRIBLE attitude in the clubhouse. They actually would not allow you to access the range without a tee time. I've never seen this anywhere.
The new management is trying VERY hard to bring this course up to standard. In the last year they have replaced dilapidated bridges, repaved cart paths, and taken out dozens of trees. New putting greens. It's really coming together. I expect in 2-3 months with some sun and rain this course will be in STELLAR shape.
That being said we were charged full price for a course with 2 holes on the back nine completely closed for maintenance. No alt tees or other options. One of the two holes was perfectly fine. The work was done and only a flag was needed. I think we should have been informed of this prior to booking or given a discount or partial credit or something. But I understand and appreciate all their efforts.
Maintenance
Course is under some maintenance around every greens and 2 fairways were closed. The improvement will be very nice when completed
can only play 16 holes
paid for 18 holes but end up only allowed to play 16 holes due to construction which did not get inform prior to tee time. course fairly ok, Don't know when the construction will be finish. Call ahead to confirm before booking or you will be short 2 holes.
Ditch the TagMarshal
Great course and good experience, but get rid of the TagMarshal’s on the golf cart. They take all the relaxation out of golf and are so annoying. I would rather walk than take a golf cart with TagMarshal/or equivalent cart monitors.
Poor Value
First of all the tee boxes were mostly sand and it was hard to even find grass in the fairways. It was an extremely slow pace of play. When we got to number ten there were 6 people playing together and we asked them what tee time they had and said 10:30 and we had a12:30 time. We asked them were they came from and told us that they took about 1 1/2 hour lunch than they cut in from of us playing as a group of six. We told the ranger what they did and nothing happened and because we didn't want to spend three hours behind this group of six who were terrible golfers to play the back nine we decided to just quit after nine holes. We will go somewhere else next time.
Good course
Good course but some maintenance work around the greens that could may chipping harder.
Good course
Staff was really friendly , food was good , pace of play was great. Greene where in decent condition
Getting Better
New owners are spending the money and doing the things needed to make a first class facility
Food and beverage is also doing great
Hidden Gem
Have not been here in awhile and I don’t know why. Conditions were great as always and I like the layout overall. Holes 12-15 are closed right now but they are having player go back around and play 1-4 to make up for it.
Disappointing
Nice layout with lots of undulation. Sadly, the fairways are in rough shape. Greens rolled pretty well. Needs a lot of work to get it to where it should be. Won't play here again.
CC Gwinnett course is being greatly improved
I played there many times the past 5 yrs. Reading some if these reviews compelled me to write this. The Course was in really bad shape, excluding the greens, 16 months ago before the present owners, McKinley Homes, bought the club. Since then, they have invested thousands $$ made massive improvements to the buildings and the course. When it was up for sale the fear was it would be auctioned off and replace w houses, No more golf there. The improvements have steadily continued w some holes being worked on w little inconvenience until the work is done. The kitchen also has great food, events, and specials on Facebook. Joe Shirey, Gen Mgr is doing great job running operations including advertising the course low $ rates and its amenities online. Greg Karbowski
Nine holes at Countey Club of Gwinnett
My daughter and I were told to play with another couple ( they were fantastic). We finished the first hole and a man drove up to us from the group behind us and claimed he was a “marshal” and we were playing slow and we had to let them go ahead of us. This man was not a “marshal” and we weren’t playing slowly. We let them pass us and they were slower than us. Not fun! The tee boxes need a lot of work! Also, the fifth hole is temporary. It’s a forty yard par three. The greens were in excellent condition but the cart paths need major work. The starter was very friendly and helpful. Lastly, our golf cart kept dying on us (not just on the fairway but also on the cart paths). I use to play here all the time and was looking forward to this round of golf with my daughter. I have personally played here close to one hundred times in the past. I expected better and was, sadly, disappointed.
