Beautiful bayside course Photo submitted by u000001344650 on 07/30/2018
Great place to play!
The Australian sandbelt design is so much fun. Big mounds all around the green can be used to bring your shots closer to the hole, but failing to execute can leave truly challenging shots.
Compared to many courses in the city that can be much muddier and damp, I love how the ball rolls out here on your tee shots.
Be careful on your tee shots on holes 13-15, if the wind is blowing as it can send balls too far left and OB.
Great shape but quick greens
This course is in great shape, but prepare to have some 3 putts on a couple holes, at least I know I should have. The tee boxes and fairways are great. The greens are smooth and huge, but not very mistake friendly. I’d definitely play this again and spend more time on the practice green beforehand lol.
A slow slog over far too much terrain
Weekday 5.5 hour round. Visually stunning course with more hills than any other Bay Area course. Greens were like putting on velcro. Reminded me of why I reluctantly put this course in my to do list. The deer and wild turkeys along with views provided relief from looking up or down for the next shot.
Changes....
Having played here periodically over decades, something keeps me checking in. Pick your tees carefully. Lots of options and yardages off different sets of tees. Walkable. Front nine is reminiscent if the pre R. Jones touches. Back nine seems to better represent his design fingerprints Greens we splendid and much faster than many near coastal courses. Great weather with winds enough to consider carefully. Pace was slowed on the back nine. I'll check back sometime sooner or later.
Corica South - I Like!!!
Playing here as a practice round for an NCGA qualifier coming up in a few weeks.Me & my partner are both just under 8 index and we played the white tees as we think that's the tees the qualifier will be played from...
Only 5770 yards so very short, which made the par 5s reachable in 2 and raised our expectancy of birdie opportunitites!!
I really think Corica should adjust their tees, blue should be whites, black should be blues etc... If you're a 7.5 index and you're only getting 4 shots you know you may be off the wrong tees!!! I understand if the wind picks up which it will, the course can be tricky, but it's mostly wide open so 5770 is very short.Course is in very good condition, greens were a little slower as usual with a very light amoung of top sand, but not enough to make dowhill puts less nervey!! They roll beautifully! Fairways, bunkers, tee boxes all between good and very good.
We got lucky, a beautful Sunday in the high 70's, low 80's, very little wind, pace of play was good, course in great shape, the golf was pretty good too!!
What happened to the greens???
I have played the North and South courses once a week for the past 4-5 weeks. I understand the Alameda Commuters Golf Tournament is coming, but why did the course add so much sand to the greens, even inconsistently? It was like putting in a sand trap in most green areas. For example, on the South Course 10th hole I had a 30ft putt from green front to back pin, and when I hit my ball, my ball created a "sand rooster tail" and finished 12ft short of the hole. I carry a 0.7 index and don't misread greens like that. Had I known the course was adding sand to the greens I would have played somewhere else, what a waste of $95 and my time. I love both courses and drive 40+ miles from home to play them, my biggest complaint is that a high % of your golf patrons have no idea how to replace their ball marks, or rake traps. The proshop needs to reminder each player, if you ball hits the green from more that 20 yrds away, you should be looking for your ball mark, THEN FIX IT.
Nice course in great condition
Overall I really liked this course. It was in great shape and played fairly. Greens were pretty quick. Definitely was a little slow in terms of pace of play and some of the holes were a little tightly placed together which is why I gave it a 4 instead of 5.
The round would have been better but it took 5 hours and 10 minutes to play, people did not really seem to keep pace with the group in front of them. My group and myself walked the course, and we were waiting on every single shot. Other than that great course and I cannot wait to comeback to play the north course
