Hole #2 Green Side Bunker represents most traps on this course that need additional sand to allow potential for more enjoyable and better playability. Photo submitted by Sam687374 on 01/16/2025

Hole #6 Tee-Box represents most T-Boxes on this course that need repair/recovery to allow potential for more enjoyable and better start for each hole. This was not fresh dirt so this leads me to believe repair/recovery of the T-boxes has not been and is c Photo submitted by Sam687374 on 01/16/2025
Fine for the price
Course was super crowded and so slow. Took us 3 hours to get through 9. Tee boxes we turf pads so tough to get a tee in there. Only one of the par 4s wasn’t drivable for a normal golfer. Greens and fairways were in solid shape. Most of the bunkers were too. Probably won’t be going back to play this course, though the 18 hole course looked nice. All that being said, it was very inexpensive so worth it if you’re looking for a cheap round.
Weekend Golf
The TeeBox Mats are embarrassing. Esp since most people are trying to tee up behind them, resulting in Player made bunkers cropping up behind each.
Take the Mats Out, and actually have tee-boxes, and it'd be the best 9-hole on the 880 corridor.
Great enhancements
Really impressed by the recent uipgrades to the practice areas, great job. Played the short nine, was in great shape especially the greens. Staff friendly, Pro will reyrun again soon. shop well stocked and
New and improved.
I haven't been to this course in a while. They have improved the conditions greatly on the course.
This course has great views
Extremely busy and only finished 4 holes in over 2 hours
Took over 30 minutes per hole because course was so busy and backed up. Party in front of us added a 5th player on hole 3. No starters or other staff to control pace of play.
We left after 4 holes that took over 2 hours and didn't finish the round because it took way too long.
Nice golf course
My brother visited me from Kansas and I invited him to play
45 minute wait after the first hole
Craziest thing to go one hole in about an hour. I get Sunday golf being slow, but it’s a 9 hole course the took 3+ hours. Greens were very well kept. Each tee box is now giant mats instead of grass so I’m done with this 9 hole course.
low tee course
Short course with a chance to use your driver.
The tee boxes have little grass, so its best to tee up even the shortest hole. Their was some sporadic wind, so it was a good chance to practice windy shots. I'd recommend, clubbing down on most holes because overshooting any hole puts you in tall thick grass.
Course condition update since Tue, 1/14/24
• Monarch Bay Golf Club - Marina, 9 Hole
• Blue - 58.6 / 87 / 1734 Yards , Course Handicap - 6.0
• Jan 16, 2025, San Leandro, CA, Update since Tue, 1/14/24
• Stroke Play, 2:10 Pace of Play
This was a 9-hole course (3 Par 4's, 6 Par 3's) that I was able to walk and play for $14 which included a senior discount during the week (Thu). Again, this is a great course to play if you want to get in 5472 steps, 639 active calories, 2.32 miles in 132 minutes.
Additional details provided on course conditions (pics provided). The T-Box areas on most of the holes remain as dirt patches with up to 2 club lengths behind the blue Tee's. (See Pic). Using Tee's (vs off the ground) would allow more consistent results between rounds. The sand traps remain in poor shape where they needed to add sand and needed to be raked/loosened before the course opened. (See Pic) The fairways and areas around the green for a majority of the holes remain in decent condition. The greens remain in pretty good shape. I am a pacer putter and am consistent greens with a STIMP # of 10. I liked the pace of these greens which allowed me to focus more on direction.
I liked the layout of the course such that I could work on my approach shots and use my irons off the Tee to place my approach shot at my favorite 80, 95 & 110 yard wedge shots.
I continue to recommend the course if you have 2 hours during the weekday and need to get a walk in and work on your tempo to prep for your next 18 hole challenge. I would give this 3/5 stars and keep this short course on my rotation for now. I will review other 9-hole courses in this area and do my best to make a fair comparison but price will be difficult to beat (especially for a senior (60+)).
Enjoy & Good Luck
