Over played
The course could use some restriction. There are many bare spots throughout the course that need attention before a play this course again. I would line to see the other course for fort liberty added as it is a much better course to play.
If this is really a donald ross course he would be quite disappointed in what has happened to it. The speed of play was terrible, but only because there couldn't have been a golfer on the course. In front of me that had a handicap under thirty six. The greens were recently errated and the first several holes. The greens were wet.And they left too much sand on the greens. So the ball had it become a sand man golf ball. Just all in all a disappointment.
August golf?
Great staff at check in. The greens and sand traps were in great shape. The tee boxes at several holes were just fairway with tee markers on them. The fairways were pretty thin with a lot of bare spots and were very bumpy. You couldn’t go full speed in a cart on most holes. The rough was thin in places too but luckily must have been recently cut. Played in mid May and the course was in much better shape. Not sure if the late summer is the problem or not watering is enough. More attention to the course and I’m sure it would be more difficult to get a tee time.
Good place for casuals
Quick to get on. Plenty of rental clubs available. Allows you to play without filling up 4somes.
Expected better
Donald Ross design suggests quality, right? In this case, not so much. Design layout is ok, but course condition is terrible. The greens are the only quality element - tees, fairways, etc are in poor condition with multiple bare spots. It struck me as a course in distress or neglect. Pace of play was miserable too. Retired guys playing at 25 minutes per hole on average, with no invite to play through. And the clubhouse was empty, no food or beverage option even with a full kitchen. It felt abandoned. Army MWR needs to update their website and more accurately describe this course as 'meh'. I was very disappointed, and probably won't go back.
Memorial Weekend
I liked the lay out, greens were very small, but the course is fair.
