River Golf & Country Club, The

Paid full freight and had to call it a day on hole 11. the gronds crew for 4 holes slowed things down and we had to skip several holes while they worked on greens. On a day when it is packed with golfers why would they work on the grounds, with no notification to golfers and slow the play to a wait of 30 mins ( that is how long we waited on 11th) only to have to call it quits because we couldn't finish the 11th ( that was the 2nd hole we started to play and couldn't finish).

The pro shop is super friendly and the guy was amazing... but he said he not control or influence on the grands crew. I Asked for a partial refund since i could not get past 10th hole after been slowed down the front 9 and having skipped a hole on front 9. HE said they can not give refunds... I really felt scammed at that point.

Front 9/Back 9 are polar opposite. Front 9 is quirky, back 9 legit....strong par 4's. Greens were slow/grainy. Fairways were excellent.

Very hot/humid along the Tar River.

Course has a good layout. Greens were mostly in good shape, receptive and good speed. A few tee boxes were basically sand but the course was in good shape otherwise. Enjoyed the round.

Great layout - challenging narrow holes, some good elevation changes and a variety of holes. The greens were 80% great, but some really bad spots on several greens. Tee boxes were terrible. 3/4 were just a dirt patch...NO grass. fairways were decent, but no rough, just dirt. Needs some maintenance all around. Little expensive for conditions. Would try it again if they do some course maintenance.

member of course very good value for the money, course plays longer then yardage as majority of holes are all on plateau so hitting up to the green, and few which not elevated sand traps guard them, the front nine small greens so have be accurate , black nine green bigger , course improving as seem like management spending lot money on course, does have great layout, just think cannot under estimate course, or it get you.

Cool and unique layout but the conditions don’t support the price. Greens on the back are very different that the front.

Tons of rocks in the bunkers so watch out for that. Tons of gravel on the sides of the course if you miss the tight fairways.

Tough green contours and tough pin locations on ridges. Green speeds differ greatly between holes. Some tee boxes are all dirt, and some are not flat or close to level. Fun play that requires shot shaping and course management. But overall it’s not worth the price tag. It should be in the $40-$45 range. Once in the $60-$70 range, the other course choices are far superior in terms of condition.

Great course design!

Played here a few times and stopped, now I remember why. While it is a great course, it’s quite humbling as well. The fairways (not all but many) are tight with little room for errant shots. Then, when you get to the greens (which were impeccable), the pin placement and undulations are so tough. A few of the tee boxes could use a refresh (some didn’t even have any grass). I’ll probably wait quite a while before I book another tee time here. Or maybe if my game improves significantly. Our group shot, 93, 96 and 99 where we all are usually low to mid 80s.

We had 4 groups go out, the staff was great and engaging. For me it was the first time playing this course in a year.

The course could use some loving care but with all the rain in the area that may have been difficult.

We went into the clubhouse after our round and had a great time. Staff was attentive and provided great service.

We will be back!

Sand traps are in bas shape and greens were recently aerated so they are not fruendly

The course was beautiful and well groomed. The cart paths are in need of repair.

Excellent experience

As our first experience with this course, I have to say, I could not be more impressed! From the cart amenities to the staff, to the course layout and condition, what a great folding day! I will absolutely be coming back time and time again!
