GPS carts sound great, but…
The course was not bad, looks like they have been working to make it a nice place. Cost was reasonable for a Friday. If the story included the course and the people, I’m pretty sure I’d return. But, they decided to take a shot with new GPS “assisted” carts. I thought it sounded pretty cool when I heard, but that enthusiasm was short lived. GPS carts are great if you can pull up to your ball and know what you have to the pin, but only if you can pull up to your ball. We quickly discovered these robo-carts are a bit more intrusive. I hit an ok drive about 20 yards off the cart path. 90 degree rule was in effect, so we drove to the ball and went right. Maybe 15 yards in, the cart started belting out the reverse tone and the GPS screen flash something like, you are in an unauthorized area, reverse to an authorized area, then just stopped. No warning, no visual indicators and we we’re stopped. Without an option, we reversed to the cart path walked to the ball and hit the next shot. After we went through the same cart ballet several times on the first three holes, I noticed that the GPS is also kind enough to share our pace of play. We were 3 in and already 17 min behind what they dictated as the correct pace in spite of the fact we were waiting on the group ahead. I play golf to get away and enjoy an afternoon outside with friends, not to have a poorly designed app dictate what I can do and the time in which I can do it, I call that the office. At the end of this miserable round, skynet informed me I was 177 minutes behind it’s desired pace of play. Our round was a tick over 4 hours, so the insanity is evident. If I hear the carts are just giving me yardage, I’d consider returning. Otherwise, I won’t return to this or any course that employs this terrible technology. It’s an embarrassing attempt to save a few bucks on course maintenance and browbeat the paying customers to go faster even if they were On track for 2.5 hours.
Steer Clear if you're a single
Got to the course and went off the front nine without a hitch. Was playing as a single riding so played the front nine in about 90 minutes. Then I make the turn and they're letting threesomes go off on number 10. Just no flow to the round and I called the clubhouse to ask about this and they were not helpful. Ended up leaving after 9 holes, as I wasn't going to deal with waiting on every shot on the back 9. Such a shame as I wanted to like this course.
Good Winter Conditions
The greens were very spongy, grainy, the fairways (dormant) surprisingly good for this time of year. Quirky front nine layout, solid back nine layout. Will be back.
Nice find in the country
The best part of this course is the layout. Beautiful wooded layout, nice elevations. Greens are in good shape. Biggest fault is several tee boxes are just dirt. Needs food and beverage improvements. Otherwise very nice.
Interesting place to play
Nice drive out into the country, the holes are interesting and the greens have pace which is nice for country course, There are some surprises in terms of tricky shots and decision making.
online tee times booking
Love everything here except for the fact you can't book a 2 some in late afternoon on golf now. i have gone elsewhere a few times for this reason. I understand you don't want 2 somes in the morning or early afternoon but after 2 pm I would think be ok. Please consider changing this. I love coming there!
Goat Track
Awful course. Rare river views as advertised Limited grass in the fairways. You can hit a a perfect Tee shot and the ball will roll into the woods. The entire course is ‘Hard pan’. Tee boxes = no grass and impossible to put your tee into the ground. I don’t care how cheap it is, don’t do it. I’ve seen dog tracks nicer than this place.
Staff was amazing!
Excited
Played there yesterday for the first time in 2 yrs. The course is in immaculate shape. The greens are some of the best I’ve played. They have really transformed the grill into something awesome. The grill owner was passing out food samples and it was an incredible experience. I’m looking into becoming a member very soon.
Excellent
I’ve been playing The River for several years, and the amount of work put into to making the course top notch is proven by the conditions of the greens, fairways and tee box.
Shorter holes with tough greens, equals a fun round. Looking forward to playing more of The River.
Tight fairways and tricky greens
Short course so they had to protect it with tricky greens and tight fairways. There are not allot of holes you can hit driver, most tees you need to hit fairway wood or iron. Couple tees and areas needed some work but overall fairly nice. Pace of play was good.
Nice Course at a Fair Price
This course has come a long way since having the ownership change hands. It was in the best shape I have ever seen it in. The fairways were nice as well as the greens. There still needs to be some work done on a few of the bunkers and tee boxes but I was very impressed with it overall. The pro-shop attendant was extremely friendly and helpful. Nice job!!!!
