Nags Head Golf Links

This is my favorite OBX course and reccomend when prices are somewhat reasonable.

Toughest links course that you will ever play, especially if it's windy!

We had to wait about 12-15 minutes on the 9th tee for a group taking photos. The members in the group behind us were not happy.. The course was in good except the greens were pretty soft, bumpy and slow. Lots of “spike” marks as well. The other members of our group mentioned that they had played a week earlier and the greens had been aerated.

Course was really nice. We had a really windy day, so the course was fairly difficult. Hope to play again someday when the weather cooperates.

This was a very fun course to play. The layout is phenomenal and with multiple holes along the sound. A lot of holes you have carefully place your tee shot and play the wind. The only bad thing was it took 5 hours to play. The starter was really friendly and gives you a rundown on how to play the course. I would definitely play again when I come back to the OBX .

The gimmicks start before the round. The first thing you see when you’d river in is that you’re in the line of fire for the range. You’ll find out later (if you’re fortunate enough to get range balls) that they use reduced flight foam balls. Had to ask (they apparently aren’t included in the $145 fee).

The starter gave a Debby downer course brief. The assumption was that we’re all duffers. He said the course demands precision but it’s on an island with wind routinely in the 10-20 mph range so I guess only experienced high wind players need apply.

The course is full of blind shots. Shots in the fairway roll into irrecoverable brush and you’ll find blind shots into greens from the fairway and blind shots into the fairway from some tees. We got hit into 3 times.

Pace of play was bad. 5 hours. There were 3-4 groups on each hole. 9 minute tee times from mandated by the golf conglomerate ownership pretty much guarantee this). The Marshall drove around but didn’t seem to do anything.

The course was in good shape but the design and layout are weird. Prescriptive strategy by placing hazards across holes at common landing zones run rampant. It’s everything they could do to make it 6000 yards from the tips. This course is screaming to be a par 54.

Front was nice not to long greens typical resort. Back nine wind showed up and the world changed. Will be back.

Definitely my favorite course in the OBX. Course is always in great shape and well cared for. I do think they are missing a giant opportunity to capitalize on their location. Would be a great spot to hang out for post round meal or drink but the facility is really run down / dated, the beverage and food selection is terrible and the service is uninspired. With the right food and beverage program, they could be crushing it.

Course was in great shape. Played round in 3 hours and 20 minutes with 2 high handicap golfers. Ranger was friendly and kept everyone moving. Going back tomorrow

Definitely enjoyed my round here, the layout was fun and beautiful, the facility was in pristine shape, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful.

It’s short all over, and at least on the day I played, wind was a factor on maybe 4 holes. Definitely a calmer day than most, but you’re not pulling Driver here very often— if that’s key to your enjoyment.

Rained the day and night before, greens were stupid soft and range was closed. Annoying number of craters left on greens— I averaged 4 pitch mark repairs per green, plus my own.

Lots of ways to get blocked out and have blind shots— no GPS, so have a plan. Danger hidden all over the place, the rough is very penal— it’s how they protect the course, so keep it in the short stuff.

Pace of play is in the 4 hour range, very slow on the front but picks up quickly on the back. Looked like we were going to be closer to 5 hours, then checked on 16 and was shocked.

I would definitely play it again, and suggest everyone play it once to see if it’s to their liking. Worth the experience and scenery alone.
