Nags Head Golf Club has a traditional Scottish-links layout that is right at home on the windswept terrain of the Outer Banks. Situated along the Roanoke Sound, the rugged coastline and rolling sand dunes perfectly mimic a classic links landscape. The golf course is a shot maker's layout that will test your skills but it is still player friendly enough to appeal to all skill levels. You'll need a sharp short game for sure, but you won't need much length on this rather short layout. Some form of water appears on nearly every hole, including some holes that play right along the Sound, and the undulating greens can be tough. It's a challenging-but-fun round that is worth playing for the scenery alone. Unsurprisingly, Nags Head Golf Club is one of the most popular golf courses in the OBX.

Aerated Greens Ruin Experience

Greens were aerated which made putting problematic. I am used to greens being aerated in winter months when greens fees are reduced, but not in May when I am paying full price. The rest of the course showed some wear and tear as well.

Light punched greens done on 6/19

The only thing that detracted from a good playing experience was the light punched greens lead to bumpy rolls and slow green speeds. You can barely see the punch. Very small holes and no top dressing. The seed heads on the poa annua were popping too which didn't help putts roll out. Some people can adjust better than me so this could be a minor point. Course looks like in great shape.

Tough Wind!!!

I expect more

Outstanding layout. Better bring a wind game as it never stops. Course condition was decent beings it’s May. However, they just punched the greens which were in horrible condition because of it, and offered no reduced greens fee. I booked thru GN, which made no mention nor did anyone at the course. I know the importance of doing this , but it’s almost criminal to charge over $100 to play in this condition. I’ve decided yo play tomorrow but somewhere else .

Cool little track.

On vacation. Played on a windy overcast day. It felt like ireland..(except for houses crowding the course in places). Walk if you’d like. Wish I had, but didn’t know anything about it. Conditions were an 8! Mixed grasses (POA and bermuda) on the greens…they rolled nice…maybe an 11. Short and tight and FUN! Seaside target golf. I’m a 1hdcp. Loved it!
