Course Highlights
Stunning sound-side water views and a well-designed layout consistently make Nags Head a must-play destination on the Outer Banks. Fairways and greens stay in excellent condition, and the welcoming staff genuinely enhance every round.

Nags Head Golf Club has a traditional Scottish-links layout that is right at home on the windswept terrain of the Outer Banks. Situated along the Roanoke Sound, the rugged coastline and rolling sand dunes perfectly mimic a classic links landscape. The golf course is a shot maker's layout that will test your skills but it is still player friendly enough to appeal to all skill levels. You'll need a sharp short game for sure, but you won't need much length on this rather short layout. Some form of water appears on nearly every hole, including some holes that play right along the Sound, and the undulating greens can be tough. It's a challenging-but-fun round that is worth playing for the scenery alone. Unsurprisingly, Nags Head Golf Club is one of the most popular golf courses in the OBX.

This course is beautiful and yet challenging.

This course is short ( perfect for me) and has beautiful layout, lots of water view which adds to the ambiance. It’s off season and the course is well maintained. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Windy Course

Course was in good condition, the wind made it challenging. Best to play from the Blue tees. A short course but some holes were tight & narrow .Being the first time, not having local knowledge , made a few poor club selections off the tee. Did not need to use Driver on some of the shot holes.

Again course was in good conditions, would play it again!

Beautiful day for golf but breezy

The course was in immaculate condition but plays tough in the breezy conditions( it is a links course though, so expected), a few blind shots will throw you off if your not familiar with the layout but overall a beautiful course, well conditioned and the greens were very nice!

Great shape

This course is in great shape tee to green. Greens were receptive to shots so you can really go after pins. You might have to fix an extra ball mark or two because they get a good amount of play being the closest course to the southern half of the Outer Banks. Be warned that if the wind is above 25 mph, the teeth really come out. Wayward shots are heavily penalized as in lost ball. Hole#4 might be the most tricked up. The tee shot is either over the hazard or layup short but It varies 25 yards depending on which side of the fairway you land. Par 4 Hole#12 is a blind tee shot that will make long drivers curse and demands a long second shot up hill that a lot of players may find too challenging. Hole#5. #9 and #18 (2 par 5s and a par 4) are the most scenic in the OBX. The Sound runs along the entire length. Negatives include a limited flight range, modest putting green, and lack of short game practice area. I can get over that. If you can't, the nearest decent facility is The Pointe roughly 30 minutes away. Rates are the 2nd highest around. Currituck club holds that spot and both managed by the same company. I truly enjoy the layout even though it's set within the waterside neighborhood. The homes look kept up. I've never eaten here so I can't comment on food. If you're good with the price and appreciate water views, the shot value is there. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

The only problem was the wedding party and photographer

We had to wait about 12-15 minutes on the 9th tee for a group taking photos. The members in the group behind us were not happy.. The course was in good except the greens were pretty soft, bumpy and slow. Lots of “spike” marks as well. The other members of our group mentioned that they had played a week earlier and the greens had been aerated.

Nags Head Golf

This was a very fun course to play. The layout is phenomenal and with multiple holes along the sound. A lot of holes you have carefully place your tee shot and play the wind. The only bad thing was it took 5 hours to play. The starter was really friendly and gives you a rundown on how to play the course. I would definitely play again when I come back to the OBX .

Slow and gimmicky

The gimmicks start before the round. The first thing you see when you’d river in is that you’re in the line of fire for the range. You’ll find out later (if you’re fortunate enough to get range balls) that they use reduced flight foam balls. Had to ask (they apparently aren’t included in the $145 fee).

The starter gave a Debby downer course brief. The assumption was that we’re all duffers. He said the course demands precision but it’s on an island with wind routinely in the 10-20 mph range so I guess only experienced high wind players need apply.

The course is full of blind shots. Shots in the fairway roll into irrecoverable brush and you’ll find blind shots into greens from the fairway and blind shots into the fairway from some tees. We got hit into 3 times.

Pace of play was bad. 5 hours. There were 3-4 groups on each hole. 9 minute tee times from mandated by the golf conglomerate ownership pretty much guarantee this). The Marshall drove around but didn’t seem to do anything.

The course was in good shape but the design and layout are weird. Prescriptive strategy by placing hazards across holes at common landing zones run rampant. It’s everything they could do to make it 6000 yards from the tips. This course is screaming to be a par 54.
