Nags Head Golf Links

About
Nags Head Golf Club has a traditional Scottish-links layout that is right at home on the windswept terrain of the Outer Banks. Situated along the Roanoke Sound, the rugged coastline and rolling sand dunes perfectly mimic a classic links landscape. The golf course is a shot maker's layout that will test your skills but it is still player friendly enough to appeal to all skill levels. You'll need a sharp short game for sure, but you won't need much length on this rather short layout. Some form of water appears on nearly every hole, including some holes that play right along the Sound, and the undulating greens can be tough. It's a challenging-but-fun round that is worth playing for the scenery alone. Unsurprisingly, Nags Head Golf Club is one of the most popular golf courses in the OBX.

Several holes run along the sound, and make Nags Head a very picturesque course. Photo submitted by JohnL1848734 on 09/08/2022

Great time
Great people and fun course for some first timers!
Nice course
Shorter course where shot placement is key…especially off the tee. Course was in really good shape and was the perfect place to get a round in if you’re down here on vacation.
Great for senior golfers when using Gold tee box.
I'm always going to have a good time at the Nags Head Links, regardless of the seasons. I'm a senior golfer now and have moved up to the Gold tee box and find it a reasonable challenge. I might think about alternate tees next time, White/Gold. OBX golf is my favorite, but you need to bring your game.
Nice course, bit slow and a little pricey
Course is very nice, well maintained, beautiful views of the sound. A nice challenging course. The pace of play during the summer season is a bit slow, plan on 5 hrs or more to finish 18.
Rain rain go away
Booked the course a week in advance. Play was stopped twice for Tstorms. Played 7 holes and it rained so much that the course was unplayable. That’s about $100 a hole for my foursome. Very disappointed.
The few holes we played were great. The course was in great shape. The staff were all very friendly. Wish we had a better experience.
My new favorite I’ve ever played!
In town from Cincinnati, where we have a ton of very affordable public golf, so take me calling this place a tad pricey with a grain of salt. I still feel it was worth the money because it is gorgeous! The staff is the friendliest I’ve ever come across anywhere in golf! From slicing one into the ocean to getting mine and my brothers picture with the Nag out front, this place was wonderful!
I Love This Course
I come down to the Outer Banks regularly and always golf Nags Head. The course is always well kept and the staff members are amazing. They truly make you feel welcome every time. I love golfing here.
Excellent course
The course and the views were tremendous. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Golfed there on July 13th, so it was very hot and humid, the course wasn’t crowded so pace of play was at your own speed and you weren’t stuck in the cart waiting to play which was nice because of the heat. Facilities were nice and throughout the course there were ice cold watering stations. I would highly recommend if you in the Outer Banks and golf definitely go here to play!
Great Experience
We love playing Nags Head. Very good layout. The holes on the sound side are beautiful. Always in excellent condition. The staff is very friendly and the 19th hole is overlooking the water. Nice to hang out on the shaded deck. We always enjoy coming back.
Love Playing Nags Head
Excellent course. Very good condition. The holes on the water are beautiful. Course has some teeth to it, if you're not on your game. We played in 20-25 MPH winds with gusts to 35+. Fun day actually. We play here every time we are in the OBX.
Awesome course
First we were greeted with very friendly staff. The amenities were perfect with water placed out on the course for a hot day. The cart girl was awesome and and was there when needed. Bathrooms on both the front and back nine were clean and well stocked. The course was in amazing shape and the views were spectacular. Well worth the cost to play and would highly recommend. Thanks to the staff for the hospitality!
Disappointing
Been golfing here for 20 yrs. Pace of play getting worse. Takes too long to get a round in. We were not the only group to leave halfway thru our round. Staff does nothing to promote pace. Golfers / hacks golfing without shoes. At end of day, it’s all about revenue. I will not go back if I don’t have to. Disappointing.
Getting worse
Been playing Nags for nearly 20 yrs. When paying the rate you pay to play here, you should not get backed up like you do here. Nearly 5 hr round for $175. Takes too long to finish. We left with 3 holes to go and so did 2 groups in front of us. When we caught up to the culprits, 3 guys golfing in their bare feet. Have always loved this course, but I may not go back.
