Nags Head Golf Club has a traditional Scottish-links layout that is right at home on the windswept terrain of the Outer Banks. Situated along the Roanoke Sound, the rugged coastline and rolling sand dunes perfectly mimic a classic links landscape. The golf course is a shot maker's layout that will test your skills but it is still player friendly enough to appeal to all skill levels. You'll need a sharp short game for sure, but you won't need much length on this rather short layout. Some form of water appears on nearly every hole, including some holes that play right along the Sound, and the undulating greens can be tough. It's a challenging-but-fun round that is worth playing for the scenery alone. Unsurprisingly, Nags Head Golf Club is one of the most popular golf courses in the OBX.

Somewhat short...

Challenging course and fun. If you have the ca-honays or the lack of course management, you can drive a lot of the par 4s or at least get inside 100.....but a miss and you remember/learn!

Would play again if it wasn't $100 a round.

Tight but enjoyable

I would highly recommend course. I think it offers a extremely varied array of holes. Good reward/challenge balance with many holes. Lol would advise conservative approach for us bogey golfers.

The greens where freshly aerated, with no communication from the staff. The course looks good. But you have no idea where you are on the hole or where to hit your shot. The card has no yardage on it. Just missing a lot of information to assist with play for a course in 2018.

One Half Course Should Be One Half Price

Front nine closed due to aerification of greens. Only the back nine was available. Pace of play was aided by ranger who helped us through a group in front who appeared to be beginner golfers after having to wait at least ten minutes on our first hole, Hole 10, a par 3. The course's proximity to the sea and the amount of water that came into play was refreshing and made the stop somewhat pleasurable.

Great Golf Course

This course was extremely challenging. It's target golf at it's best. Narrow fairways, water on 14 of 18 holes and the ocean comes into play on many holes. If you're not accurate you'll be in trouble. I only used driver on about 3 holes but still lost 7 balls. That said my wife and I truly enjoyed this course. The ocean views are fantastic! We only paid $55 each so for the price we played a great golf course! The weather was overcast and cool with about a 10-15 mph wind blowing off the water which made it even tougher. I highly recommend playing here. The spectacular views are worth the difficulty factor!

Favorite OBX course

We play NH 3 or 4 out of 7 days vaca every year and without exaggeration have said that if we had to pick one public course to play the rest of our lives, this might be it. My husband plays to a 0 hdcp and I am happy to shoot 90 and we both love the layout, the views, the conditions, the great pace (April/May or Oct) and did we say the scenery. Thank you Nags Head - wish we could move from PA.
