Nags Head Golf Links
About
Nags Head Golf Club has a traditional Scottish-links layout that is right at home on the windswept terrain of the Outer Banks. Situated along the Roanoke Sound, the rugged coastline and rolling sand dunes perfectly mimic a classic links landscape. The golf course is a shot maker's layout that will test your skills but it is still player friendly enough to appeal to all skill levels. You'll need a sharp short game for sure, but you won't need much length on this rather short layout. Some form of water appears on nearly every hole, including some holes that play right along the Sound, and the undulating greens can be tough. It's a challenging-but-fun round that is worth playing for the scenery alone. Unsurprisingly, Nags Head Golf Club is one of the most popular golf courses in the OBX.

Several holes run along the sound, and make Nags Head a very picturesque course. Photo submitted by JohnL1848734 on 09/08/2022

Definitely not my last time at this gem by the sound. As challenging as it's spectacular scenery!
Favorite OBX course
We play NH 3 or 4 out of 7 days vaca every year and without exaggeration have said that if we had to pick one public course to play the rest of our lives, this might be it. My husband plays to a 0 hdcp and I am happy to shoot 90 and we both love the layout, the views, the conditions, the great pace (April/May or Oct) and did we say the scenery. Thank you Nags Head - wish we could move from PA.
Very nice day
Very good experience. Even bought the most comfortable pair of shoes I've ever worn from their Pro Shop. Course was in excellent condition and was a beautiful day to be playing golf a stone's throw from the Albemarle sound. Most other golfers on the course were courteous apart from one group that rode their carts up on me like they were in rush hour traffic in the middle of my backswing while I was hiting my 17th tee shot but that is expected when they're in a hurry to get home for the wife's cookout rather than enjoy the beautiful Scenic day
30 mile an hour winds
Windiest golf course I have ever played. Good thing I’m not serious about golf anymore.
Outstanding
Played three days in a row, got a great deal on Golf Now of course still off season which helps.
One of our favorite courses and will keep coming back for more...
Nags Head
Really enjoy this course one of the best on the banks. Can be a ball eater if you aren’t in control of your game. View is great on the bay side which you get to enjoy on the last of the fromt and back 9.
Nags Head Links
Really challenging but fun. Narrow, water and sand. You have to really manage your game.
Nice course
Will play this course again. All the staff where very friendly. I checking early and was able to get out before my tee time. Which was great because some rainy weather was in the forecast in the late afternoon. It was my first time at this course and the starter gave me a few tips about playing some different holes. The course it challenging but fair. Most of the challenging part was not knowing some dangers of you not hitting your landing spot or some blind shots. Great day of golf!
Impressive, Especially for February
This is a beautiful soundfront course with several holes facing or running along the water. Condition was excellent for a February day with, as expected, cropped brown turf in the fairways but good green grass on the putting surfaces. A few greens looked splotchy from variegated grasses but all were mowed to give true-running putts. This was certainly a major bargain at the price I played for my round. Warning to others, though: keep the ball in the fairway or it will disappear into some thick brambles or go splash.
Honey Bourbon
I have played this course for years. At first I was totally frustrated trying to play the course. I swore to never play again. Eventually it became my first choice for a course to play. I love the wind on the course. I love the views on the course. I love the condition of the course. The greens are generous and well groomed. The sand traps are consistent. I learned to play the course on its terms. It can be a beast. And it can be exhilarating when you hit the ball like you are suppose to hit it. This recent visit was made the best by playing with my favorite friends and honey bourbon, sunshine and cool breezes. What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday. It is the essence of male bonding, exercise and the beauty of natural surroundings.
Great course
The layout is fantastic. The wind makes it a challenge, but well worth it
It's a demanding course, so I lost my share of golfballs (I'm an erratic golfer), but the views of the sound are great, the condition of the course was excellent (especially for an ocean course), and the holes offer welcome variety. Water but not too much and sand but not too much. Just wish other golfers would replace their divots (with sand) and fix their ball marks. Price was great, really surprisingly reasonable.
great day at the beach
Friendly staff, no crowds, great condition, good greens,
who could ask for more.
Great course !
Course was in great shape.Greens were nice. Our party really had a great time! Will definitely be back.
Watch out !
Had played here before ( 18 years ago ) so knew it was tight. First nine fine , managed my way around but then the tighter and tougher back nine grapped me. I moved up to the shorter tees the last five holes to save my self respect. I recommend it as a great test but careful !!
An outstanding course
This course is an outstanding example of a links course, which is a style I don't encounter much in Colorado. The challenge comes from 2 features: the native grasses (which swallow golf balls) and the wind (which seems to always come off the sound). This course has made my family vacations so much more enjoyable! Today was the first time I committed to leaving my woods in the car and playing only with my irons - and my score improved greatly. I've played Nags Head in the summer and in fall - both seasons have been great.
Thanksgiving week
Great time to play since we played in 3 hours. Course has several holes with blind shots and greens with some difficult pin placements. We enjoyed the diversity of the holes since everyone is different and forces you to work on ball placement off the tee. Not good if you spray the ball around since many holes are have narrow spots.
