Nags Head Golf Links
About
Nags Head Golf Club has a traditional Scottish-links layout that is right at home on the windswept terrain of the Outer Banks. Situated along the Roanoke Sound, the rugged coastline and rolling sand dunes perfectly mimic a classic links landscape. The golf course is a shot maker's layout that will test your skills but it is still player friendly enough to appeal to all skill levels. You'll need a sharp short game for sure, but you won't need much length on this rather short layout. Some form of water appears on nearly every hole, including some holes that play right along the Sound, and the undulating greens can be tough. It's a challenging-but-fun round that is worth playing for the scenery alone. Unsurprisingly, Nags Head Golf Club is one of the most popular golf courses in the OBX.

Several holes run along the sound, and make Nags Head a very picturesque course. Photo submitted by JohnL1848734 on 09/08/2022

Great links course
Greaters wear very friendly and courteous. Met use in parking lot with cart. Check in was fast and easy. The course is in great condition. It is very challenging but fair. Hitting into fairways was extremely important. Some tee shots and green shots are blind so a. Yardage devise or phone program with gps yardage is very handy and recommended
Day at Nags Head
This is, quite simply a beautiful seaside golf club. Not pretentious at all. Even though there are homes scattered about the course, you never feel hemmed in. The views of the Atlantic Ocean, Roanoke and Albemarle Sounds are a part of nearly every hole. There is no repetitiveness in the layout, and challenging holes of all different lengths. I will go back soon.
Windy
Gusty winds made this course even more challenging. Straightness is a must here or you will spend a lot of time searching for your ball
Nags Head Links is very challenging
It was a beautiful day to play a beautiful course. Nags Head Links is in great condition with excellent greens and fairways. Its best to stay on the fairway because the rough is deep and thick. I intend on going back to play again. It is a course that requires familiarity to score well. The staff was friendly and helpful. They offer advise on playing the course and warn about difficult holes.
Beautiful course, Perfect weather
Potential
This course has some potential but just fell too short for me to return. Few landmarks to aid in both distance and potential hazards (of course you pay an additional $5 for a yardage book). The course is short but demanding. If you're the average golfer that struggles with going left and right with your golf ball, SAVE YOUR MONEY. Otherwise, take a lot of golf balls. The guy I paired with, lost 15-20 golf balls.
Great course
This is a beautiful course and and a very challenging course for the novice golfer like me. Course was well kept it had some water lying around but with all the rain they had how could it not. It's a course I am glad I played while on vacation.
Rain has severely impacted the course. Water made the course way to difficult for the average golfer. For the green fees, way over priced.
Very Disappointed
We play this course 3x per year as part of our visit to the OBX and the course is usually in good shape. However we played this course yesterday and it should have either been closed until they figured out the drainage issue or offer golfers a significant discount. No one working at the course gave us any indication of the poor condition it was in during checkin nor at the first tee. That's probably why no one asked if we enjoyed the course after our round. Either way we are removing this course our rotation after this week.
Great Value
The layout is on the shorter side, but the holes are plenty challenging. Greens were in good shape considering. I somehow didn't go into a bunker, so no reviews for those. The course had too much rain for a month before our arrival (34" of rain in 30 days), but the staff was working very hard to make it a good experience. Very soft, but fun.
Rain Soaked
I really like this course and I think it's absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately they had 30 inches of rain in the month of July and it rained again and the course is completely obliterated. We got three holes in and the pace of play was largely affected by unplayable course conditions. The pro shop gave us a $100 course credit that's good forever And I will definitely come again.
great but tight course
great course great lay out, if you don't hit em straight bring extra balls. very good price for such a nice course on the island
Fun vacation round
Fairly challenging "links-style" course but playable by golfers of all skill levels. Pace can be slow but, hey, "you are likely on vacation and you are at the beach". Enjoy the nice weather, scenery, and relax.
Nice
Had a great time. Nice course layout, but you have to pick your shot selection. Left the driver in the bag.
Nice course, fairways a little narrow at places. Recommend first time playing buy yardage book or have sky Caddie. Nice holes along the sound.
Play smart
No grip it and rip it course. Play smart or pay a price. Good to know safe landing areas. Have to have strong shirt game. Greens fast even though it had rained. Challenging and interesting course.
