Nags Head Golf Links
About
Nags Head Golf Club has a traditional Scottish-links layout that is right at home on the windswept terrain of the Outer Banks. Situated along the Roanoke Sound, the rugged coastline and rolling sand dunes perfectly mimic a classic links landscape. The golf course is a shot maker's layout that will test your skills but it is still player friendly enough to appeal to all skill levels. You'll need a sharp short game for sure, but you won't need much length on this rather short layout. Some form of water appears on nearly every hole, including some holes that play right along the Sound, and the undulating greens can be tough. It's a challenging-but-fun round that is worth playing for the scenery alone. Unsurprisingly, Nags Head Golf Club is one of the most popular golf courses in the OBX.

Several holes run along the sound, and make Nags Head a very picturesque course. Photo submitted by JohnL1848734 on 09/08/2022

Great course
This is a beautiful course and and a very challenging course for the novice golfer like me. Course was well kept it had some water lying around but with all the rain they had how could it not. It's a course I am glad I played while on vacation.
Rain has severely impacted the course. Water made the course way to difficult for the average golfer. For the green fees, way over priced.
Very Disappointed
We play this course 3x per year as part of our visit to the OBX and the course is usually in good shape. However we played this course yesterday and it should have either been closed until they figured out the drainage issue or offer golfers a significant discount. No one working at the course gave us any indication of the poor condition it was in during checkin nor at the first tee. That's probably why no one asked if we enjoyed the course after our round. Either way we are removing this course our rotation after this week.
Great Value
The layout is on the shorter side, but the holes are plenty challenging. Greens were in good shape considering. I somehow didn't go into a bunker, so no reviews for those. The course had too much rain for a month before our arrival (34" of rain in 30 days), but the staff was working very hard to make it a good experience. Very soft, but fun.
Rain Soaked
I really like this course and I think it's absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately they had 30 inches of rain in the month of July and it rained again and the course is completely obliterated. We got three holes in and the pace of play was largely affected by unplayable course conditions. The pro shop gave us a $100 course credit that's good forever And I will definitely come again.
great but tight course
great course great lay out, if you don't hit em straight bring extra balls. very good price for such a nice course on the island
Fun vacation round
Fairly challenging "links-style" course but playable by golfers of all skill levels. Pace can be slow but, hey, "you are likely on vacation and you are at the beach". Enjoy the nice weather, scenery, and relax.
Nice
Had a great time. Nice course layout, but you have to pick your shot selection. Left the driver in the bag.
Nice course, fairways a little narrow at places. Recommend first time playing buy yardage book or have sky Caddie. Nice holes along the sound.
Play smart
No grip it and rip it course. Play smart or pay a price. Good to know safe landing areas. Have to have strong shirt game. Greens fast even though it had rained. Challenging and interesting course.
Soggy weather bu course is holding up OK.
They have had tons of rain lately and there was some casual water on th he course. Otherwise it was in good condition and the greens rolled nice.
Great first time playing.
The course was in great shape. The staff was very friendly. I was a single golfer they paired me up with very nice golfers. I used the forward tees. The tee boxes were well cared for. I would recommend Nags Head course to anyone.
Great course
The course is spectacularly scenic. Greens are fairly fast but very soft so they really grab pitches. Some fairways have casual water thanks to lots of recentrain and the natural deainage issues of the Outer Banks, but they have pumps working to reduce the ponding. 90 degree rule all over the course slows play., again thanks to recent rain.
But pace is more affected by how tight and tough this course is. Lots of time lost looking in thick rough.
One of the best and most challenging courses I've played. Highly recommend it...but bring your accurate (not necessarily long) clubs and/or lots of golf balls!
Love the location and layout
Enjoyed a round with family members. Weather was warm but windy. Love the layout and beauty of the bay area bordering one side of the course. The staff was professional and service oriented. I will play this course again on our visit to Nags head next year.
Awesome course
My son and I played here last week while on vacation and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were greeted in the parking lot by a college-age kid with a cart for us. He was very friendly, outgoing, and insisted on pulling our bags from the car and loading them onto the cart. Once set we checked in, 60 minutes early, and opted to hit the driving range. I personally did not like the range balls that we were hitting, but realize based on the size of the range that they were necessary. Up side was that we could warm up on all clubs, including driver. The Marshall was very friendly and let us go out at our convenience, which was about 30 minutes early. I appreciated that as the course wasn't overly busy, but a few groups showed up shortly after us so it was nice to get out in front of them. The course was beautiful. Hole 11 required a good drive, and three of the last four holes on the back were challenging due to the wind. The Par 3 hole 15 was tough, and I was happy to walk away with a bogey. What really makes the course fun is that you really have to think before choosing your club, especially off the tees. Driver is not a given on a par 4, I hit my 5-wood or a hybrid on several of them. Hard to choose a favorite hole, but 9 is probably it. I will definitely be back.
Nice course
Great little resort course great shape great views of the sound PGA member giving this review pro shop staff member never greeted us or said welcome to nags head links need to have better customer service
Great Day with my son
My son Gabe and I had a great day and we joined with another father and son. I shot a net 66 (best round of the year on a fairly unknown course which I only play a few times a year). Great day and we;ll be back.
Another Great Day
Went out as a single. Played through 2 groups of 2 and finished 18 holes in less then 3 hours including the two I played through. Shot a net 70 on a 70 par course. I shall return and bring friends.
Unbelievable Views
The course was absolutely a delight. I am pretty picky about courses, but this one was fantastic. I played from the back tees due to the course being short. 5700 from the blues, 6200 from the tips. Many blind tee shots with water on every hole. Many holes had very tight landing areas with a strong wind off the bay. There were no less than 6 holes literally 10 feet from the bay.
Even though the greens had been aerated within the past few days, the experience was terrific.
