Excellent track in the New Bern area
Whenever, my wife and I are visiting the New Bern area, we make it part of our routine to play The Emerald. We truly enjoy this woodland course. The holes are well designed to provide unique challenges and rewards to the golfer. Multiple tees give each golfer a fair starting point for which to play depending upon their skill level.
There are a number of holes which bring water into play, so be prepared to hit high shots when called upon. We particularly enjoy the back nine, as it meanders through many wooded areas that are quite beautiful. When we played, we found the greens very fast, but running true. For the money, this is a great value, so if you are in the area, make sure to book a game.
One of the best around
Course is challenging without being unplayable for the average golfer. Greens are fantastic with above average fairways. My favorite course within 40 miles of Jacksonville.
Nice Place to Play
The new bermuda greens they installed last summer are in excellent condition, and have been cut low.
The staff is first class, very friendly, and extremely helpful. A huge supporter of The First Tee.
Overall, the course is fun to play with adequate challenges.
EXCELLENT VIEW
Excellent course nice lay out very friendly will always return
When the fairways are Emerald this course is a gem
Designed by Rees Jones, this course is a pleasure to play.
While I played in the early spring and the Bermuda hadn't yet sprouted this course was fun scenic and challenging. Heavy rains made long drives impossible but scoring was possible! This course is conveniently located to downtown New Bern. Staff is very friendly and they let me tee off early to avoid being slowed by men's groups playing.
Greens are extremely smooth and true. Tees were a ittle spotty but with a tough winter including more very cold weather than usual that could be expected.
If your in the New Bern area and have time this course would be a great choice. Cash is expected with Golfnow tee time but the course is worth every penny.
great staff
Really good course always in great shape. Staff is always helpful.
Great course layout with excellent conditions.
Excellent course with challenging layout, but very playable. Fairways had plush grass and very consistent greens. Cart paths are asphalt, and need a little work. Nice amenities, friendly staff.
Course wet, but playable, carts path only.
Enjoyed the new greens. They are almost totally dormant but very playable. They rolled well.
Awesome course I had my best round ever.
I would and will play this course again soon. The staff at the pro shop were super friendly and Professional. I can't wait to go back in a few weeks. I will reccomend this course to my friends. I had a great time and was impressed with the new greens. I had my best round ever .
The Emerald has tee boxes for every level of ability
new greens are a welcome addition, the course is well maintained and has all the amenities for an enjoyable round of golf
Challenging but fair
The Emerald lives up to its reputation as a premier course. The fairways have a huge number of moguls, making for some challenging lies but mostly very good condition - it has been damp lately and there were a few muddy spots. The sand trap sand is light and fluffy, making for the need for precision hitting. The new greens are best of all - vicious to read but very true running. Pin placement can be extreme. One small disappointment was the par threes - they all look like the same hole!
Great Course and Booked at a Value
The assistant pro, Ms Camacho (I might have this wrong) however she was an absolute blessing. She did a great job as far as pairing us up for a foursome to tee off. The course is in great condition, and the Greens roll true (Some of the best putting I've done in a while) They are still doing a little work with cutting down some trees and when I played the course was a little soggy due to recent rain, however it was a great playing course. I would highly recommend this course, especially if you can get it at a great rate on GolfNow
This course has excellent greens...
Nice course which is well maintained and a value for the money. Greens are new and in excellent condition, fairways and tee boxes are in good condition as well. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
nice lay out
The only thing bad about playing on this date was CART PATH ONLY
really enjoyed this course
Played the course with friends and we each had a great time. Thought the greens were the best I putted on. Birdied the last hole which made a great finish to a wonderful day. Hope we get another opportunity to play this course again in the near future.
They ruined the greens!!!
This used to be my favorite course in the area until they recently changed the greens from bentgrass to bermuda. Big mistake! Now they're just like everyone else, congratulations. If I want to play Bermuda greens I'll go to one of the other 50 courses that are closer to where I live. And if you're smart you'll do the same. I will not be playing there again.

The course was fine, but in the hot summer it would be nice if they would put out a couple of water buckets, the only water was the the restrooms one on each side and the fountains were not cold. In my opinion this would be a nice improvement to a good course.
The new Champion greens are great.
The new champion Bermuda grass greens are grown in and smooth as can be. Tee boxes and fairways are also in great shape since the course has been closed for 9 weeks. Many trees were removed near the greens making the course a little easier to play. The day we played was cart path only which slowed us down a little. This is one of the best courses in New Bern.
First time since the new greens.
This course hsa recently had their greens redone from bent to champion burmuda. The new greens are a little thin but they putt well. The greens should be great by next spring. The traps are playing better it appears new sand was added when the course was closed for two months.
Multiple plays
My handicap is 9.4. I play The Emerald very often. I find it pricey at regular pricing, but they have good online deals on a regular basis.
The course is always in good shape with wonderful fairways and true rolling greens. The course is closing for a period in July and Aug. to replace the greens from bentgrass to Bermuda.
Probably the best overall course in the area.
Compared to Carolina Colours: Carolina Colours has a nice layout and excellent greens, but the fairways are hard and still not mature. Even with a T Shot in the fairway, you may not have the
best lie. Carolina Colours charges to much. Cheapest tate is $36.
