Crystal Coast Country Club
About
The Crystal Coast Country Club sits along the Bogue Sound, sprawling across sand dunes and weaving through the Maritime Forest. The club boasts the only golf course on the 21-mile island of Pine Knolls Shores. At just over 6,000 yards from the back tees, the course doesn't have the length that some other championship layouts have but there are still plenty of challenges in store. In addition to bunkers that are strategically placed along the small greens and narrow fairways, water comes into play on 13 holes. Though there are some tight spots that can be tough to navigate, the golf course is player friendly enough for all skill levels to enjoy. Regardless of ability, you'll be able to enjoy beautiful scenery, especially on the back nine where you'll have the best views of the Sound.

Great course!
This place was great from beginning to end. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. The course was one of the best kept courses we’ve ever played. Will definitely be back.
Great Conditions - Golf Carts are terrible
I've been playing golf for over 45 years. Mostly private clubs.
Here are the pros:
- The course is in great conditions.
- Greens are fast and smooth.
- Tees and fairways are very good.
- Conditions of a typical private country club.
- Played in just over 3 hours
Cons:
- Tiny driving range. Can only hit wedges.
- Golf carts are terrible. They constantly are stopping and telling you to back up. There are no directions on golf cart usage. I was on the 5th hole, 2 feet off the right side of the fairway and it told me to stop. They wanted me to drive on the left side of the fairway near the water.
Would I play again:
-If they change out the carts, I would play again. If they still have the same carts, I will find a different place to play.
Island Gem
If you’re in the area vacationing this is a “must play”!! Tricky green complexes are this courses defense. Having played about 5 other courses in the area over the years, this is the top 1 that have have encountered by far!! See you next year.
Made a Day of it
Traveling from Surf City with wife to play
Great day trip going through swansboro and Emerald Isle along the way about 60 miles
Worth the trip course was in great shape very challenging pace of play tremendous 3 and 1/2 hours to play probably could have finished closer to 3 if we tried
Cart girl came around regularly
Definitely will be back
Huge improvements, pristine conditions
We have been playing this course for many years, and it is amazing to see the difference the new owners have made. Every green is apparently new, and the grass is perfect. The greens are quick (really quick) but roll true. I total joy to play.
Same can be same for the fairways and tee boxes. I cannot find a single fault for this course. I highly recommend it while it is still semi-public.
I do wish they offered morning tee times for the public, maybe one day per week, but it's understandable that they don't.
$$$$$, rude, and not worth it
I play golf at least once a week and this was probably the oddest and most condescending experience I’ve ever had. While the conditions are excellent and I really liked the green surface, speed, and how well they rolled, there were too many other things that made it not worth the money.
They have country club in the name but that doesn’t make it one. When I tried to book a tee time, the person on the line kept telling me different days and times than I asked about. I felt the need to call back the next day to confirm and ultimately modify my reservation. I was wearing proper golf attire on arrival and was lectured about the need to wear a collared shirt the whole time which I thought was really weird since I was wearing one.
The heat index was 100°F, so water was necessary. The person in the pro shop unfortunately couldn’t guide us to their water fountain with ice so we bought water. There was a sign in the pro shop that said if you buy a certain amount of water, the price drops to $1 per bottle. We inquired about it and they didn’t honor their own sign. It’s not about the difference of a few dollars, but the blatant disregard for customer service and non-member players. It was rude, off putting, dishonest, and was tough to take after the odd ( and snarky toned) comment about golf attire despite being properly dressed. That said, the young man working the carts was able to fill our water bottle and also promptly got to our car to help us load up. He was by far the friendliest and most helpful member of staff.
The practice area is 125 yards at most with 5 or so mats, not much opportunity to warm up. The holes have no variety. It’s either a short par 3 or a straight par 4. For $90 a person, it’s just not at all worth it. Kind of scammy since there aren’t many places right on the island. Yes, the course is in great condition but that’s all you’re getting along with a lack of customer service. Unfortunate. Wouldn’t go back if a friend offered to pay.
One of my favorites
This course is so awesome since they brought in new ownership. The staff is great and the course is solid. Play it while you can until they make it private
Crystal Coast Country club
I have played over 50 different golf courses in North and South Carolina and Georgia, including Harbor Town and Grove Park Inn, and this course put everything else to shame, except for Devils Ridge in Cary!! I can’t say I played my best round ever but I couldn’t blame the course for that. The fairways were beautiful and lush, greens were fast and true and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, this will be my vacation golf course for the rest of my life, truly a memorable experience, thank you GolfNow for helping to make this possible!!!!!
Great Day on the Course
Being familiar with other courses in the area, I was impressed by how well maintained and run this course is. It wasn't crowded, the course was in great shape, and they had everything you could ask for (minus a drink cart, which is overrated, and a full driving range). The only complaint was that the gps shut-off on the carts was kind of screwy...it told us about holes that were cart path only--only after we were in the middle of the fairway, and a handful of times it thought we were somewhere we weren't. Otherwise, great course, great views, and a great deal for some mid-day golf.
Loved it.
The staff was absolutely amazing, very friendly and informative. Beautiful clubhouse, the course was the best ive been on so far. Beautiful views, fast greens, very well kept fairways and rough. The carts blew me away with the features they had, GPS map of the course, distance to green, the lockout feature was a bit annoying when you get into a restricted area but i get it, first time on the course it happened a few times. I will definitely come back to this course the next time im in the area.
Short but a challenge
The course is short and they have several tee arrangements that allow you to pick your level of difficulty. The water, wind, and layout does not mean you hit driver all the time.
Great course
Course conditions were great , staff is very friendly
