Slow greens
If you like slow greens, this is the place. Otherwise, the course is in good shape.
Great course
A friend of mine was looking for a different place to play. We found a great course with a good staff. Not a long course by any means but a lot of fun to play.
Greens in rough shape
I play RGA a lot and usually think the course is a decent value for the money, especially within Raleigh, but on this day the greens were really disappointing. Every putt seemed to do more bouncing than rolling. It's not completely RGA's fault as people just don't fix ball marks the way they should. But rolling the greens would help tremendously. It's jut frustrating to miss multiple putts that are tracking for the hole and bounce off course.
Nice course
A nice course but not worth the money. There are other courses that are more demanding and same cost.
Good value
I like this course as there are a couple holes that are drive-able and the holes offer a variety of shot approaches. The only drawback I had from this visit was the rudeness of the starter. There was no need for his attitude and even though I was at the tee box we let another group go before us because it was 1 minute before our tee time and the other guys were getting something from their car. It would be understandable if the group in front of us was at least on the green, which they were not so we could not have teed off yet anyways. Just not the way I like to be treated when starting a round.
Chapel Hill
1. Slowest greens of all time
2. Would not sell a 6 pack of beer, no coolers nor personal coolers.
RGA
Nice course to work on your game. Greens were very slow.
Front 9 is easy and the back nine was challenging with narrow fairways on some holes.
Recommend playing the first par 5 across the street with three irons to stay on play. Hit 7, 5 , and 9 irons to par the hole.
Hit way to the left on #17 to stay on play, everything funnels to the right woods.
Nice round of golf
The day was great weather and the course wasn't crowded so overall a nice afternoon. The grass is still struggling to grow in (told it was due to the late freeze) and the cart paths are pretty broken up in places. Overall the condition of the course is fine. The gentleman at the starter shack was very friendly and engaging.
Very mediocre
Very short. Fairways not in good shape. Greens were in good shape and fun. Overall a very mediocre layout/course. Couple of interesting holes, but way too many boring 350 yard par 4's. Better courses for same or less cost in the area.
Great Saturday morning outing!
Played with a couple friends and paired with a single to make 4. Pace of play was excellent, the course was in great shape and the greens rolled as true as could hope for. Just an excellent outing. Also enjoyed the two hotdogs at the turn (BRIGHTLEAFS). Definitely will be back soon!
Not worth the hassle
First time on this course on the 12th of April. No driving range here, they have a small chipping area though. The greens on this course would be better if they maintained them. The marshals here need to do a better job of maintaining the pace of play. It shouldn't take almost 5 hours on a 6200 yard course.
Nice layout, rough conditions
Like this layout. Like many older courses it's fairly tight, but the greens are excellent and consistent.
Only real complain is the fairways. We often had to hit off mud or compacted turf.
Saturday afternoon and pace of play was great
Good course, there are more demanding courses in the area, but the greens are well kept and the pace of play was great - no waiting on any tee on a Saturday afternoon - enjoyed the day with my son.
Good winter golf
greens in good shape. Some work needs to be done on cart paths
RGA is an open friendly course especially for Seniors. It is challenging enough for lower handicappers and fun for higher handcappers.
RGA is a very good golf course for all levels of golfers. It offers links that are very different in design and challenge.
RGA A old classic holds its own
RGA is a older course but what it lacks in new gimmicks it makes up for with old tricks. It has many elevated greens with false fronts that require carry and a couple challenging long Par 3's. The greens will hold you attention...a lapse in concentration will quickly leave you in 3 putt city. The conditions are very acceptable for winter golf and they do a good job of keeping the fairways playable. Having witnessed many of the older tracks falling to development and being lost forever except in memory (RIP Cheviot Hills CG) I cherish time spent on the classic tracks when the opportunity comes available. I hope RGA will last for future Generations to enjoy.
One last note...The club-house personnel here are some of the nicest in the area. I had a issue with my playing partner having to leave the course due to a family issue before his round really even started. The course issue him a voucher after I told them of his plight. Class act by the kind Gentleman running the desk & just one of the things that keeps RGA on our groups radar in the future.
Course was in the best shape of any course I've played this year.
I've always liked this course, but I would never play there on a weekend. It is way too crowded.
Great course at a great price! Really good greens for cold weather.
Played with 2 friends and we all enjoyed the course. We will be back.
Great public course, good vibe, walkable
The course is in very good shape of late.
I like that it is easy to get on the course (don't need to book a tee tie in advance... just show up). I've played a few times, and even on weekends there was no wait to get out. Sometimes I even got out as a single, and made it through the course walking in 3.5 hours, 3 hours riding. Nice pace.
Not too punishing. There are a few water and woody holes, but small mistakes can be overcome. (I hate the courses where even a slight mishit tee shot means you're ball is gone in deep woods or unplayable rough)
It's a no-nonsense course... clubhouse is full of friendly people, but not exactly a fancy facility. I prefer it that way.
Good Coourse
The course was not busy. It was quite cold. It was great to move at a good pace - no back up or anyone chasing your tail. The course is in good condition. Greens are really green and well maintained. Great course. Will play again.
