Awful Experience
Do not play this course. 50$ for a 4pm tee time, greens are the worst i have ever played on. there’s weeds on every green and dirt patches on them as well. Fairways were fine, tee boxes and greens were awful. If the round was 10$ I wouldn’t complain as much, but for 50$ it’s a flat out scam. Do Not Play This Course
Only for the occasional tune up
The condition of the greens alone make this course only worth a very occasional tune up. The only other reason to consider is if your budget doesn’t have enough wiggle room for course that are better cared for.
Invest a little, gain a lot
This is a course I've played several times and each time I play, I come away with the same thought - if only the owners would invest a little into the course, it could be really good. I love the location. It's close to my home and easy to get to. Even though it's in a suburban area, it doesn't feel that way. Homes are far enough off the course to not be worrisome, and there's enough nature that it feels "woodsy". In fact, a beautiful doe stood eating grass not 50 feet from us when playing one of the holes. I'd play there all the time except that the course not in good playable condition. Fairways and roughs were adequate, but the greens were awful. Some greens looked to be nearly 50% crabgrass and bare patches. No way to roll a true putt. The tee boxes were fine on some holes, and nearly devoid of grass on others. My final complaint is that they need to trim back some trees. A few holes have tree branches encroaching over the fairways such that even a well placed tee shot can either hit the branches or be blocked out on the next shot. There were two holes where the underground irrigation had apparently broken and water was percolating up by the cart paths. It seems that all this could be fixed with a bit of effort and modest expense (except for the greens, perhaps, which may have to be completely re-done).
Wait until they completely overhaul the greens
First impressions are everything and upon reaching the very first green it was clear this course is currently unplayable. Probably the worst greens I've ever seen. Even for the price, it just isn't worth it. We cut off the round at 9 holes and called it a day. To their credit, they realize the issue and are about to reconstruct the greens completely. But the fairways need work as well if this track is to play like a quality muni. It's off my list for now.
Fallen Off
I have played this course many times, but man my most recent round was rough. About 45 minutes behind pace, greens were full of weeds and felt like cement, tee boxes were pretty beat up too. Fairways were fine, but i’ve played much better in the area for similar prices. Only saving grace was the staff, but given how you only interact with them at the start of the round, its not enough to bring me back here. This went from a great course for the value to near unplayable in a matter of months.
Greens and the Fairways are trash
The fairways were practically the rough. So slow no rolls or bounces . As for the greens they were hideous. If you ever played at pine burr when it was open the greens looked exactly like they did. It was basically like playing on cement. The course is in bad shape don’t pay over 20 bucks for it.
Hardly a golf course
As others have said, there's a reason there's always an abundance of tee times here. Greens are mostly just low cut weeds and some of the fairways are too sloped to hold a perfect shot. They have a marshal but he's incompetent and does not know how to manage the pace of play to get the round under 5 hours. They also had a scramble with a shotgun start the day I played but didn't sell any fewer tee times because of it? Terrible course, terrible management
Course in terrible condition
The greens were possibly some of the worst I have ever played on. The fairways were so deep I don’t think they had been mowed in at least a week or 2.
BEWARE THE GREENS
Good course layout, but the greens and tee boxes are absolutely worth a $5 tee time. Pace of play was overbooked .
Nope
Sure they always have open tee times, but have you ever stopped to think why? Save yourself some dignity. Go somewhere else
Greens are awful
Played RGA 51 years ago, great little course in Raleigh, yesterday I was shocked at how bad of shape the course is in, I understand they are closing it and renovating it, it sorely needs it!
