The rough areas need trimming
I always lose more balls on this course than any other despite the fact that it does not have many water hazzards. The reason is that the rough areas are too thick and if the balls goes slightly off the fairway, it is imposible to find it.
Find another place to play!
I have played this course for more than 20 years due to its closeness. It has always been average at best. But the conditions have deteriorated to completely embarrassing. The greens are destroyed. Don’t even consider trying to post a legitimate score as the greens are pitted, pocked, bare sand in places and unplayable. Your ball will roll and bounce in directions beyond your control. The tee boxes have little to no grass. Some of the closing holes are absolute hardpan in the fairways. The course has not been mowed or manicured. Balls are hard to find. No efforts or money has been spent to improve the course in recent years. Yet they are still happy to charge $50 on the weekend to play this slightly upgraded cow pasture. I am no golf snob and not happy to so bad-mouth a Raleigh legacy layout, but DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!
Old course and good location
The course is good for beginner golfer and since it's good location around 30mins closest course in downtown and bit crowded. We have to wait for 5 mins in every hole, The green need to be in maintenance speed around 7.
Needs some tlc
Greens are terrible, cart paths not great either.
Lots of fire ant hills
Good course but greens need improvement
Good course but the greens need care. Fairways also need some work to address weeds and bare spots.
Awful Experience
Do not play this course. 50$ for a 4pm tee time, greens are the worst i have ever played on. there’s weeds on every green and dirt patches on them as well. Fairways were fine, tee boxes and greens were awful. If the round was 10$ I wouldn’t complain as much, but for 50$ it’s a flat out scam. Do Not Play This Course
Only for the occasional tune up
The condition of the greens alone make this course only worth a very occasional tune up. The only other reason to consider is if your budget doesn’t have enough wiggle room for course that are better cared for.
Invest a little, gain a lot
This is a course I've played several times and each time I play, I come away with the same thought - if only the owners would invest a little into the course, it could be really good. I love the location. It's close to my home and easy to get to. Even though it's in a suburban area, it doesn't feel that way. Homes are far enough off the course to not be worrisome, and there's enough nature that it feels "woodsy". In fact, a beautiful doe stood eating grass not 50 feet from us when playing one of the holes. I'd play there all the time except that the course not in good playable condition. Fairways and roughs were adequate, but the greens were awful. Some greens looked to be nearly 50% crabgrass and bare patches. No way to roll a true putt. The tee boxes were fine on some holes, and nearly devoid of grass on others. My final complaint is that they need to trim back some trees. A few holes have tree branches encroaching over the fairways such that even a well placed tee shot can either hit the branches or be blocked out on the next shot. There were two holes where the underground irrigation had apparently broken and water was percolating up by the cart paths. It seems that all this could be fixed with a bit of effort and modest expense (except for the greens, perhaps, which may have to be completely re-done).
Wait until they completely overhaul the greens
First impressions are everything and upon reaching the very first green it was clear this course is currently unplayable. Probably the worst greens I've ever seen. Even for the price, it just isn't worth it. We cut off the round at 9 holes and called it a day. To their credit, they realize the issue and are about to reconstruct the greens completely. But the fairways need work as well if this track is to play like a quality muni. It's off my list for now.
