love the course and staff
theres alot of construction going on. the lake was really really low. i love how noone bothers you out there. nice and peacful. both courses are fun. the greens are in excellent shape for march!
Good layout, winter conditions
Typical Robert Trent Jones course. Wide open and built for the tourist trade. The North Carolina soil is mainly clay which makes it hard during winter. Scottsdale is the best place for winter golf IMO as the overseed takes really well there. If you do play in North Carolina look for Bent grass greens. The mini verde is well suited for the N Carolina summer but is susceptible to freezes.
I hope I get to play this course in late spring.. Good clubhouse, bar and cartpaths. Note the signage from 16th Hole to 17 is not clear. Follow the yellow arrows. Cross the street and go a little left to pick up the cartpath again.
Many better alternatives for the money
We were really excited to play this course given that it is a semi private course is located on a lake and had good ratings on the site. The good was a friendliness of the staff. The bad: 1. Incredibly difficult course- very hilly, sand traps everywhere, streams in water on almost every hole, Large amount of rough everywhere, and very narrow fairways. Par threes routinely 170 to 190 yards. Not for almost all every day golfers. 2. The greens, while they were in good condition, were truly tiny. 3. They charged $130 per person to play here. No other private clubs in this region charge anywhere close to that amount. Buyer beware next time based on an alternative view.
Great course
Everything about this was great. Awesome experience, great course would recommend to everyone
Top Notch Championship Course
Great track, challenging, scenic, fair, and the greens were fabulous. The Lakes is the better of the 2 courses but both are very nice. Less than an hour from Raleigh too, I'll be back soon.
Thanks
Great Layout
Nice course in great condition. Clubhouse closed at 3p, so there weren't any workers around at the end of the round. Seemed like much more member play than anyone else. Other than that, definitely worth the trip.
Fun course
I like the course a lot. There is a distinct difference between the front and the back. Course can be a bear from the back tees. Elevation changes abound, especially on front side. Tight fairways, in places, felt dictatorial. Abundance of grass around the greens give lesser players opportunities to recover, There are some very good technical holes and also some strategic ones---the par-5, 14th in particular, in deciding how to play that second shot. Cool hole. The three memorable par-3's are all downhill water holes. Despite the many elevated par-4 greens, there is some decent variety in their routings. Typical of Jones, Sr. the tee shots, while fair, are also demanding. The bunker placements are dead-on for players using appropriate tees.
Good layout - good condition except slow greens
Staff were excellent to deal with, paid $60 which included some range balls, very nice layout with some very pretty water holes. Greens were about a 9-10 on the stimp meter, but in good shape. A good value!
