Dan Maples, architect of the nationally acclaimed Pit Golf Links, has created another masterpiece only minutes from the Village of Pinehurst. Longleaf Golf & Family Club was formerly the site of Starland Farms, for years the training ground of some of the country's top thoroughbreds. As a tribute to its colorful history, Maples incorporated some of the features and flavor of the old facility into the golf course, including part of the fence and training track. The front nine at Longleaf was designed in the Scottish open style with subtly rolling fairways. The back nine, in contrast, is heavily tree-lined and dramatically elevated. Ron Whitten of Golf Digest called Longleaf "...the most playable course in Pinehurst."

Great for our group of 12

Had 12 guys/3 groups and played a scramble. Super fun course with houses pretty tight to the fairways. Enjoyed the family friendly vibe, and staff was very accommodating for our group. Definitely recommend.

Nice course, slow members

Been a few years since I played Longleaf but enjoyed the addition of the newer waste bunkers. Made it more of a “Pinehurst” feel. Layout on front nine is better than back. Was frustrated with pace of play. Being a teaching course, kids and instructors were everywhere.

The only thing one person in my foursome complained about were the tee boxes weren’t flat….Besides that he said he enjoyed the course.

Very interesting course with wide variety of holes . Course was in good shape and the best since we played it several years ago. Love the racetrack feeling. Staff was very friendly. We definitely will return!

Make sure to pick the right tee

So I went on a buddies golf trip and we all played from the 7th tee. However, I had a pretty miserable time because my 2nd shots after teeing off where way too long to reach the green. Also, although the course doesn't seem overly long at over 6600 from the tips, it plays longer than that due to the elevation changes and the wind factor. The par 3's are also really far from the tips. I really love the idea at the practice facility where it tells you that whatever number you can reach with the driver should be the tee you're using. Knowing that I should have played from the 5's or 6's. I will return to this course and will definitely follow the practice facility suggestion. Given that this is a course with 7 tee options, I would love to bring my wife and kid to golf with me and make it a true family experience. I loved that the putting green has a nine hole challenge, sort of like a putt putt fun experience. The course is very scenic, lots of uphill and downhill shots, lots of shot shaping holes requiring you to draw and fade shots. The back nine plays extra long, and it's flatter more linksy style than the front nine. The front nine kind of plays like a mountainous course.

Very nice facility and practice area.

Course fairways were still coming in which made it difficult to hit from. Greens were in good shape.

Great Course terrible golf carts.

Walk this course if you can. Their new golf carts have gps and hole layout but you’ll be lucky to use it because of all the notifications it tells you about random things. Carts are terrible to drive and incredibly frustrating. Debated leaving the cart on the third hole and walking. Great course. Terrible carts.
