Slow play due to course latout
I liked each individual hole design, what I did not enjoy was course layout. Example on some holes when playing from the blues you are in a line of people hitting their approach shot over/into you, cart path design of stopping play due to people entering you line of sight. Pace of play I feels suffers from layout. Phillip in the pro shop was great, had to move my tee time due to traveling from Raleigh and moved us no problem
Slow!
Great course, great day. Too great. 3 hours to play 9 holes. Had to quit. Couldn't take it anymore.
Good for money
Course well maintain and green fees are very reasonable
Best course around for the money
My only issue with the course was that whoever did the pin placements had no clue what they were doing. The greens were quite fast and when putting to some of those pins the ball wouldn't stop unless it went in the hole. I had several putts that came all the way back to where I putted from originally.
Great day for play.
Course is very underrated. Greens are good. Grass is in all areas for play. The bunkers appear to be re done recently. This course is so fun to play. The grill is great when it is open. The staff is helpful. The layout of.the first three holes creates a log jam for play on the weekends. Pace of play once off the first three holes was typical. I will return soon.
Reasonable early morning tee time
Got to play single as a dew sweeper. Played 18 in u under three hours.
Lots of blind shots
If you’ve never played here before be prepared for lots of blind shots. However, it makes it really challenging. Even if you have, still always a challenging course. I like it!!
First time playing Winding Creek
As the title states, this my first time here and I was bit uncertain how the experience would be given some of the reviews. I found the staff very friendly, the starter even gave me a free yardage book when I told him it was my first time. I went out as a single at 9 am as the others in my tee time went earlier, even though I was behind numerous 3 and 4 somes the pace was good for a Sunday morning. Course was in great condition for a muni and offers some challenging holes especially from the back tees. A lot of elevation changes make the course play longer than the yardage states. Greens ran true and smooth! Overall course offers a great value for the cost.
Challenging But Fun
Beginner golfer, first time playing the course. I only played the front nine, so my experience is limited to that. Several of the holes were very challenging due to the terrain (hills, etc) and blind spots. The course was in very nice shape, though, as well as the greens. Very good pricing, friendly staff, and players on the course seemed cool.
Fix your divot marks folks
Love playing here. If people would fix their divots on the green they would actually be playable.
I just wanted to play by myself.
The greens were a bit in need of a good mow and rolling. It’s a municipal course that is played by every level of golfer. A lot of those golfers do not know how to treat a green. It is what I rated it as, average..
Must Visit! Best Muni Around
I was born and raised 20 miles from this course and have never really heard of it in 31 years... that is until last week when I played here for the first time with my friend and young son (age 3). From the moment we arrived, we could tell the course was meticulously maintained and in great shape. Greens were plugged recently, but were overall in great shape. Not spongy, not burned, not long or too soft.... just good normal greens. Fringe was spectular and was consistently maintained on every hole. The course is hillier than I expected (hillier than winston lakes IMO) and challenging from the whites or the blues. The hills make this seemingly open field into a challenging, closed off and secluded course. Benches are located throught the course. Water stations were everywhere and the water was ice cold, and cups were at each station... brand new bathroom on the far side of the course that services the front and back side... carts went fast and were clean. There are blind shots on this course, but the distance stakes are consistently lined up with the pin to help with direction and the fairways are perfectly distinguishable from the rough. The course was really in impressive shape all around.
The best part of Winding Creek isn't the course, but rather the staff. The owner/bartender was gracious immediately upon arrival. She gave my son an ice pop out of generosity on the hot day. They were not strict or annoyed by any of our questions or requests and made every effort to make us feel comfortable. The same lady made our food fresh on the grill and gave us tips to get the best bang for our buck with their specials on alcohol and food. She made every effort to make us happy!
Highly recommend coming here ASAP!
