Deercroft Golf Club
About
Deercroft Golf Club is located just 20 minutes South of Pinehurst has twice been the site for PGA qualifying schools as well as PGA Senior tour qualifying events. Readers of golfweek have voted Deercroft one of "America's Best Courses" for six consecutive years.
The course features lush fairways, manicured bent-grass greens and views that are out-of-this world.
Probably because of the few extra minutes' drive necessary to reach the course, the green fees are among the most reasonable in the area, especially when you consider the quality of the golf.

Great Golf Experience!
Interesting course design..excellent shape especially the greens..good pace of play..friendly staff...GREAT VALUE for the money!
Great quality at a great price
The course was in great condition! Not a long course but you have to think your way around it. The course is well maintained and I would've rated it 4 out of 5 stars but the cart paths are not in good condition which they admit and they told me they are going to re-do them. Also another reason for only 3 stars was I didn't see the cart girl until the back nine..although there is a water cooler every 3-5 holes so that was fine with me. All in all it was an awesome course for the price and remember this used to be a LPGA stop years ago and was also host to the PGA Q school in the mid 80's.
This is a great lay out
This was a great time at the golf course. The lay out is very interesting and fun to play. The staff was very nice and made us feel welcomed and appreciated. I will play this course any time I am in the Pinehurst area.
Friendly. Good rate. Nice layout.
My brother and I went to Deercroft for a fast 18 on a Saturday afternoon. Played in 3 hrs. Nice guy in pro shop. This course has a sporty layout. Greens are getting better, but you have to jam it; if you try to roll it you'll be short. Played it down, didn't pull many really poor lies. Had fun.
Straight forward course
The course was very straight forward, rather short from the back tees, I think it was a little over 6500. Hitting driver only three times. The greens were recently punched but really were not that bad. Driving range was a little rough, couldn't hit more than 3 hybrid, and it was like hitting out of the rough. The staff was great. Definitely going back!
Good bones. Working on improvements
Very nice people run this course and they have been working on the course. Removed a lot of trees. Fairways fair condition but goes from fairway to waste area without any real rough. Greens the day we played were shaggy and a bit bouncy. Appeared to have been aerated about 2 weeks earlier and filling back in. I know these guys are working hard and I hopee all goes well for them.
The pace of play seemed slow but that seems to be a problem anywhere there are no rangers coming thru once in a while to be sure guys are keeping up.
Great value course. Very user friendly
This is an older course that had almost died, but is on the comeback. Very well maintained, super friendly staff. You can see the work that is being done. A work of love in progress. I only wish that it was closer to my home so i could play it more often.
They are doing a good job of getting the course back into shape
This course had been going downhill for several years. It is a very nice layout and Ted and his crew are working very hard, with fine resuilts, to make it a top notch play
Great layout at a great price
Living in the area I play a lot of high end courses. A friend suggested we play Deercroft so we gave it a chance. The area around the course is being renovated but doesn't interfere with your game. The greens were the best I have ever played in the entire area. If you give it a try you won't be disappointed. Additional plus. It's owned and run buy the nicest people. You will have a great time here.
best value for golf in the Pinehurst area
Deercroft is far and away the 'best value' for golf in the Pinehurst area and I am confident it will continue to improve and eventually will become worthy of charging even higher fees. When I travel (from New Jersey) to play resort golf, the one thing that can ruin a day is 'poor quality greens' - well rest assured that will not happen here at Deercroft, the greens are beautiful. I played 5 rounds of golf in 4 days (early May 2013) mostly on Midland Road and Deercroft took a back seat to nobody with regard to the condition and speed of the greens, and combined with smaller than average greens, it makes for a great challenge and will get you ready for the rest of your trip. It is the perfect 'opening' round for a golf trip in Pinehurst especially when 8 guys fly in from various destinations and are looking for something 'not too tough' to start the trip and have the real tough ones planned for later in the week. Please do not be fooled by the yardage on the scorecard, the course plays a lot longer than listed because there are very few (if any) straight holes, the course has quite a bit of character. I have been planning trips for 8-12 guys for 20 years and we have been going to Pinehurst at least once every year for the past 16 years. This is the first time I played here but I will definitely use Deercroft as my opening round (straight from the airport) on every trip going forward. We played on a rainy day and since it was not crowded, we had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with the owner who took over less than 2 years ago. He is a very personable gentlemen who seems dedicated to turning this course around and return it to the form it had years ago. He is off to a great start already with fabulous greens and bunkers that were in fine shape despite the prior 2 days of rain. Sorry for the long review, but since Deercroft is the best $25 round of golf I have ever played anywhere, I felt compelled to write my first review at golfnow.com.
Great golf course
Great golf course to play. Weather conditions made the golf course a bit challenging to play. Will play this course again.
Greens are true and roll nicely
This is a great value with a nice friendly challenge but fair.
Greens held the ball on the second or third shot and putted true.
Staff couldn't have been nicer . Great day!
This course is a diamond in the rough.
Greens are slow, but true. Bunkers are pristine. Fairways OK. The current staff is trying to rebuild this once beautiful course and bring it back to life.
nice layout
we found the course typical of nc courses this time of year. we found. the greens to be superb but needed to be cut a little shorter the tees needed some work and there were some areas that needed attention, but overall i enjoyed my experiance. thank you
Wooded and hilly
Wooded and hilly, but not overly difficult. Had a great time. Will be back.
Front 9 wet.
Golf course greens were very good. Course was wet from rain. Back 9 was relatively dry.
course on its way back, nice greens good layout
This course has as very nice layout and the greens roll very good. Not super long but I enjoyed it very much. This course had gone down hill the last few years but sounds like the owner committed to making it a very good course again. About 30 min drive from Pinehurst and even though I expected more I am glad I made the trip down. Just go there with an open mind and give it a try. You can't beat the price.
Course conditions improving, especially the greens.
Always enjoyed playing Deercroft since the holes are isolated from the others so you don't see anyone playing on other holes. And any time I've played it (always off season) it has not been busy. But the course conditions started going way down hill so it has been several years since last playing there. There is still room for improvement, but over-all the course is in much better shape than the last time I played it, especially the greens. I am not the straightest off the tee, so I find keeping it in play on these tree lined fairways a challenge. For the $15 bucks cart and green fee hot deal, it is definitely worth the trip from Southern Pines/Pinehurst.
Great course for the money!
The course was in great shape for the winter. The highlight of course conditions were the greens. They were maintained well enough to grab the ball when you hit them but were greased lightning when putting. The greens were a blast to play on!
The greens are worth the price of admission.
The greens on this golf course are nothing short of spectacular. They rolled fast and true and were a pleasure to play.
If new management can carry the quality work they've exhibited with the green complex to the rest of the golf course it will be a regular destination for me and my group.
To find as good or better puting surfaces, in our immediate area (Pinehurst vicinity) you would have to spend alot more money, alot more.
Can't wait for the warmer weather to see how the rest of the physical plant fills in.
