Getting better all the time!
Every time I play this course there are improvements you can notice. The greens are in beautiful shape, fairways with new seed filling in perfectly and a nice length rough to punish you a bit. Just a fun course to play.
Fun course for walking
This is a course you play when you want to walk 9/18 holes late afternoon.
Peaceful area and fun par 3’s. Greens are sanded which made it less than ideal but overall not a bad course.
No driving range but there is a net to hit balls into.
Great day!!
Course in beautiful shape. Greens very fast and able to hold on approach shots. Always enjoy playing here.
Fun place to play
This course is in the best shape I have ever seen it in over the past 5 years. The only thing i would suggest is to trim the edges of the fairways to give the golfers an easier time locating their balls that are just a foot or so off the fairway. Greens are in excellent shape and are challenging with their speed.
A Hidden Gem
Wendell CC definitely has its own unique design, with a classic late 80s layout feel. Each green is undulating, with no two being alike which I prefer for the variety of shots required to hit throughout the day. The worst thing a course can have is for its hole features to become boring at any point, which never happens throughout Wendell CC’s 18 hole trek.
*Main thing that sets it apart from the average NC course: It’s longer par 4’s.
Mainly the Front 9 boasts the lengthier holes in succession starting with No. 2 and providing a more than 400 yard par 4 (with two playing near 450) in succession all the way to the 9th hole. This is different from most courses by depending on the mid to long irons through much of the front 9, as opposed to many avid golfers wedging it into the average par 4 nowadays. This really challenges low handicappers in shooting under par on the first 9 by having to knead well-earned pars together on three of the first five par 4s. It provides scenic, shorter par 3’s on the front where a short iron can be leveraged if playing the right tees; however, where the 3’s promote refuge in their length they make up for it with lurking water hazards to demand accurate strikes with penal landing zones for bailouts too far from the water.
We didn’t play the back 9 but it definitely shortens up some in length looking at the scorecard.
Overall, Wendell’s a GREAT COURSE for it’s price!!!
Great Course for the value
I’ve golfed at Wendell CC almost weekly since I moved here last September. The course is a great value, especially with GolfNow. I played the course yesterday and was impressed with the state of the fairways and greens considering how hot it has been. The front 9 greens had been aerated recently, so with that and the applied sand, they were rolling a bit slow. The back 9 had been done prior the the front so the greens were in much better shape and rolled better. A few of the tee boxes were a bit firm and tough to get a tee in the ground, but overall not too bad. Many of the fairways slope left to right so even good drives will roll to the left. Knowing this in advance will help you figure out where to land your drives. Grabbing a course guide will help tremendously.
Pleasant Surprise near Raleigh
