Chardon Lakes Golf Course
About
Chardon Lakes Golf Course opened as a nine-hole course in 1931. The original layout was designed by Bert Way, the same creative mind behind two of the popular golf courses in Ohio: Firestone North in Akron and Mayfield C.C. in Lyndhurst. The second nine was added in 1963. The golf course has a traditional layout with challenges that have withstood the test of the time. It has hosted several qualifiers for the Cleveland Open, most recently in 2001. Many famous players have tested their luck on the golf course, including Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, whose score of 67 from the back tees is still the course record. Mature trees line Chardon Lakes Golf Course's fairways and there are more than 40 bunkers strategically placed along the large, undulating greens. There are also water hazards on 11 holes.

Always nice
Course always in good shape. Nice greens. Very fast. Club house nothing special. Staff friendly though.
Course in great shape for early season
Staff was very friendly and course was in very good condition for early season
very friendly staff
The course was in great shape considering it is Feb. 22. We finished 18 in 3.5 hrs. even with cart path only rule in effect. Only drawback would be those darn geese! We need to get a boarder collie out there to chase them away. The club manager was very friendly.
One of the Best In Northeast Ohio
Chardon Lakes is one of my favorite courses in Northeast Ohio. The course is always in excellent condition. The layout is interesting and challenging, but not unfair to the average golfer. The holes are a reasonable length for average hitters, but the back tees offer a tougher round for long hitters. The greens are great - fast and enough break to make it interesting. The course has a nice variety of hole layouts, so you don't feel like you are playing the same hole 18 times.
long time player at chardon
started playing here in the 60's. the course has been excellently maintained throughout that entire period, and continues to add improvements each year, e.g., a new practice green is under construction. the greens are tricky - but very fair. they will hold a good approach shot. but they can be lightning fast downhill. it definite deserves to be in the top 5 public courses in northeastern ohio.
Chardon Lakes
Didn't score well. Very challenging layout. I can understand why Nicklaus holds course record with a 67. Some of the pin positions were a little unfair taking into account slope of the greens. Conditioning was great. Fairway grass was little sparse, I.e. ball doesn't sit up in the fairway. Overall really nice golf course.
Challenging Course in great shape
Played in late November.... course was in great shape. They cleared all the leaves and the greens were in good shape. The course offer a number of challenging holes.. tree line fairways, sloping uphill greens and hazards in strategic locations. Pace was pretty good. This is the type of course you have to pick your fairway target in order to score well.
Great layout; slow play
I love the course. The layout, condition and greens are all great. The price on golf now and the 70 degree November were ideal. My only issue is the pace of play. They had a guy that told us on 15 that he'd told groups ahead to speed up but that is too late.
wet
The course was in good shape. They had aerated the course and greens so things were a little rough but all in all pretty good.
Fun course that is in very good condition
Staff was very friendly. The course greens were aerated and sanded but rolled true. The fairways and tee boxes in awesome condition.

Nice Layout
Course is in very good condition. The greens are large but very challenging. Stop by Bass Lake Tavern after your round for a beverage and a bite to eat in a great outdoor patio setting.
Hi Donnierapp,
Thank you for choosing Chardon Lakes! It's great to hear that you enjoyed both the layout and conditions of the course. We hope to see you again soon!
Never disappoints
I play this course a bunch. Bang for buck is great. The fairways, tees, and greens are generally perfect. The greens are as fast as they can keep them without making them unfair. They all tend to slope heavily from back to front, so stay below the hole. Bunkers are decent. The layout is tricky. The tips play much harder than the next set of tees, but most of the demand at Chardon Lakes is on the greens. The tee shots are at a premium too. There are a number of doglegs and the course requires accuracy off the tee. Well worth the price.
Hi Folex9,
Thank you for your review! We are so happy to hear that you always enjoy your round at Chardon Lakes. We look forward to having you back again soon!
Nice experience
The fairways and rough are in really good shape especially given the dry weather. The greens roll well as long as people fix divots. Sand traps need some upgrading so stay out of them and don't go long on these greens or you will find your score ballooning. Pace of play has been very good in morning and the staff has been cordial. After golf relax grab a beer and a hot dog and hang out on the balcony. Nice way to spend a day
great scenery
Played on 7/29/2016 ,course was in great shape no lack of watering here would recomend everyone should try once
Love this track
Chardon Lakes is a beautiful golf course. Everything was in great shape even with the lack of rain we have had. They def water because everything was in tiptop shape. Greens were excellent. I also took my 6yr old daughter to experience a course for her 1st time and what a place to take her. I've played here before and will be back soon to play again
Almost country club level
A great test of your golf game. If you play easy courses be prepared to bring your game.
Great experience - very fast greens
The course was in very good shape. The greens were very fast and well maintained. Fairway grass is consistent if a bit long. Most bunkers in A-1 shape. A couple needed a little more sand.
Overall an 8.5 out of 10.
Hi jaserocky,
Thank you for your review! Glad to hear that you enjoyed your round. Hopefully the next time we see you the course will be fully recovered from the aeration.
