Chardon Lakes Golf Course
About
Chardon Lakes Golf Course opened as a nine-hole course in 1931. The original layout was designed by Bert Way, the same creative mind behind two of the popular golf courses in Ohio: Firestone North in Akron and Mayfield C.C. in Lyndhurst. The second nine was added in 1963. The golf course has a traditional layout with challenges that have withstood the test of the time. It has hosted several qualifiers for the Cleveland Open, most recently in 2001. Many famous players have tested their luck on the golf course, including Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, whose score of 67 from the back tees is still the course record. Mature trees line Chardon Lakes Golf Course's fairways and there are more than 40 bunkers strategically placed along the large, undulating greens. There are also water hazards on 11 holes.

Tips narrow and fast greens
Course was in great shape. Green rolled smooth and quick. Fairways well manicured. Sand boxes good shape. Pace of play was slow then a foursome went off back.
Course conditions were very good for early season. Greens unfair
The course was in very good shape for early season. Tee boxes and fairways are excellent. The greens are in good shape but a number of the holes are on mounds that take perfect putts (line & speed) to sink. Not good for novice to intermediate golfers. Course can get very crowded so pick your days carefully!
some greens unfair
Need to tear up and totally rebuild #7 green. Impossible to put from above the hole and keep it on the green. 7 is the worst, but 18, 2, and 4 almost impossible to putt as well. It really spoils an otherwise very favorite place to play. In great condition alsways. Bunkers prisitine and all the SAME which is kind of rare these days.
Beautiful course on a windy day
I played Chardon Lakes based on previous reviews, the value of this deal, and the endorsement of TV sports talk host Les Levine. The course is quite attractive, with a mix of challenges (not including my own technical ones!). The weather was warm and sunny, but quite windy. It made even moderately difficult holes even worse, because of the wind which literally blew the ball wildly, in the air, on the greens, and in one instance, into the cup. The course seems to have more greenskeepers with leaf blowers on it than other players, demonstrating the care that management takes with its course. The sloped greens with difficult pin placements were exacerbated by the windy conditions.
The personnel were quite nice, and (the telltale sign), the hot dogs were cooked to perfection and had the right amount of "snap." I definitely would return, but it looks like it'll have to wait until Spring.
Delightful golf experience
The course is country club quality at very competitive public course rates. Challenging layout. Undulating and sloped greens make it fun.
Excellent Value
Paid $10 for 18 and a cart. Greens make this course very challenging. Don't be above the hole.
Disappointed
disappointed in what we were told and our experience. we arrived as a twosome and were told they were extremely busy and we were going to be paired up. no big deal to us. when we got up to the tee, a single player was already ahead of us. as we headed for the back nine, they had started numerous twosomes ahead of us which slowed play and we had the twosome behind us hitting into us because they felt pressured by the ranger. overall bad experience. don't know if I will go back
Great course, challenging greens
Course in excellent conditioner! As always lots of challenging sloped greens!
Very nice course
Enjoyed the round very nice course and in great shape.
Very challenging greens.
The course is in very good shape. I would recommend black tees for golfers with length and low handicaps. The greens were very quick. And the greens slowed the pace of play for groups not wanting to pick up short puts.
Great course
Great course to play , do need to keep your pace of play up , cause some people will complain
First time...will be back!
What a great surprise! The course was gorgeous in spite of ALL the rain we've had. The 4some in front of us was slow but that's nothing to do with the course. Staff was so friendly!
Good Value on a beautiful day
Enjoyed a relaxed 18 w/ my son. The course was green and the greens were firm. With only a few golfers on the course we played in 3 1/2 including a pitstop for lunch.
Perfect playing conditions
Course was in excellent shape and what friendly people who worked there. Couldn't ask for a better round . Highly recommended.
Great Value
This course is close to private country club quality. The normal rates are a bit highish, but the deal we got online was excellent. My son is 8 and played the forward tees. They have 4 sets. There has been a ton of rain lately, but they were letting carts out on the front and it was in fantastic shape. The greens were near perfect. Pace of play wasn't too bad for a Saturday. Highly recommend this course.
Cracking course
Course is in fine condition. I played this course a year ago for the first time and decided to give it another go and I'm glad i did. This course has the feel of a private country club with out the snobby atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The course is a challenge but is not impossible to play, it gives and it takes. I love the challenge and the set up, it makes you consider your drive wether to take driver or 3 wood or iron, a very risk and reward course. Greens were perfect. Loved it, will be back!
Excellent condition
Played as 3some. Course in excellent condition. Would play here again but kept having single players catch our 3some and it seemed rushed despite our pace of play.
Good course good deal
3 hour round; greens quick, challenging course with only a few holes that are tough on first timers
Great day for fall golf
Had a great time with my six year old! Although he wasn't playing the staff treated him very well. Thanks!
Great value
Course was in good shape even though the greens and fairways had been recently aerified. Very enjoyable course with a good mix of holes from realitively easy to challenging. Will definitely play again.
