Fallen Off
Fowlers Mill has traditionally been the number 1 or 2 public course
in the area. Excellent Don Ross design, fantastic conditioning, good pace of play, solid range and practice greens.
No way around it, the course has really fallen off. The conditioning of the course was really disappointing to see. The greens were in sad shape, with a few touching on unplayable. The course was full of fallen, dead trees and brush. Missing signage and markers. Rotted out retaining walls and steps. Bunkers more dirt than sand. Carts were used from some other course and clunked and clanged through the round. Really disappointing for such a traditionally great course.
Not what I expected from "A top rated course in Ohio"
We've recently been trying different courses in the area and had read multiple places that this was a top course in NE Ohio but it's apparent they don't keep up with it. The greens were patchy and probably one of the worst set of greens I've played on.
We got a good deal from Golfnow for 18 but I wouldn't drive 50 minutes again to play here and would recommend other courses in the area.
I don’t know..
So as most know, this was rated and on some websites, still rated the #1 Public course in Ohio.. Well as of 11/4, I have played on 7 different courses in the past two weeks and this was by FAR the worst one. I understand is almost off season BUT, the greens are HORRIBLE.. There are painted patches all over, and the tee boxes are moosh! (It hasn’t rained in over a week).
We weren’t allowed to go off the cart path, (if you walk off the cart path though, it’s a mooshy swamp in the rough) but if you hit the opposite side of the fairway it, you had to drop your partner off and then have them go sift through the millions of leaves all over this course.. So the pace was so slow! And there was 2 sum riding our butts the whole time (we were a 4 sum)
I just played valley of the eagles and it was MAGNIFICENT! There were workers making sure there wasn’t one darn leaf anywhere! Even the bunkers! At Fowler’s, I didn’t see one worker doing ANYTHING! Literally nothing.. if you’re playing in this nice weather we are having, I do NOT recommend.
BUT! I don’t know what this course it like in the summer! I hope ALOT better!
Gorgeous Course
Gorgeous course, extremely well kept. Great views, tough greeens!
Basic
With all due respect to fowlers mill, it’s not what I imagined being the #1 public GC in Ohio. The quality of turf was impeccable besides the thread moss but it’s generally hard to get rid of. Layout didn’t blow me away. Good time no doubt, and love the par 5’s but everything in between was average. I came from playing Boulder creek thinking what could be better and I still believe Boulder had a better layout. (In my opinion)***
Definitely not worth the money
There was no ranger, so we were held up by a twosome for nine holes. (We were a foursome.) The greens were quick but very spotty. The rough was too long for fall play. They apparently don’t have blowers for leaves, or decided not to use them. This is WEEKEND PLAY guys! To play this course for $85.00 was outrageous! I’ll remember this on my the next trip from South Carolina to play with my offsprings.
Awesome day of golf.
All 27 holes are fantastic. Nothing negative to say what so ever.
Challenging and beautiful
Greens were in rough shape surprisingly, but everything else exceeded my expectations of this course. An excellent challenge for the average golfer or a good course for the lower shooting golfers
NO HOT DOGS!
The only reason I didn’t a 5-star rating was because they didn’t have any hot dogs at the turn. Extremely disappointing! Beautiful golf course!
5 hr round
FMs layout is one of the best anywhere, however 5 hr rounds, fairways cut way too close and damaged greens are your thing then go for it. I might recommend a friend play the course, then again I may not.
She’s seen better days but there’s hope for her still
Great layout and still a fun test of golf but a lot of the greens have some serious dead spots, they did their best to make most pins away from them but they couldn’t always win that fight with the state of the worst ones. They’re doing a lot on landscaping and repair and refilling on the bunkers and other serious landscaping around the course, especially on the creek that will probably play and look amazing next year.
hopefully they’ve just realized they’ve lost the greens for this year and are planning on heavily reseeding and doing whatever it takes on the greens for this fall and winter and try and revive them for next year. It has the potential to be great and you can tell they’re spending money to try and work on it so I’ll keep my hopes high for this Pete due gem in the future.
Greens on the verge of dying
Great layout but unfortunately way overpriced for greens that in multiple locations appear to be dying/infected with some kinda fungus. Very disappointing as it was one of the better courses in the area. If they don’t address this soon you might as well just blow up the greens because they won’t be puttable. . Fairways, tee boxes were good. Cart paths have vastly improved. But the greens are very concerning.
Great course
I really enjoy this course. The double dog leg par 5's are extremely challenging to par, especially since the trees in front of the greens are very mature and impossible to hit over.
