Terrible fairway conditions
Sorry to say that the fairways were overrun with weeds and looking neglected. Greens were OK. After reading good reviews, it was disappointing to drive a pretty good distance over twisty roads to play here. Layout was interesting, as you'd expect on a mountain course. Basic small golf shop.
Not the course I remember
I’ve played here several times but has been years since my last round. Unfortunately this wasn’t the course I remember. The course had been overtaken by weeds and different grasses especially the fairways. We rolled the ball in the fairway to account for this but the course used to be in pristine condition. Hopefully they can get the course back next season. Greens were decent, not great, and they’d moved the flags away from the real problem areas. The scenery is what makes the course but the conditions were terrible.
About what I expected
Had not played course in several years as it had really run down. New owners seem to be addressing course conditions and it is no longer cart path only. Greens were excellent, but traps need work and fairways were full of weeds. I do hope the they are successful in returning this course to its former glory as it's a great track and true mountain gem. Thanks to the staff who are very supportive and accommodating.
Almost Great
Its a very interesting course, however if you have the chance to only play 9 it should be the back. The front is a fairly simple layout that plays like a typical course but the back is really special. Very unique and meanders through the valley with a few crossovers with a beautiful creek. Rarely see anyone else, a great experience. Skip the front if you are short on time.
I wish I could give course conditions a better rating but it was pretty bad. Bunker and greens were well maintained, but the fairways and rough were pretty bad. A few fairways were almost entirely overcome with weeds. The roughs were also pretty spotty and SUUUUPER long. A few times a ball rolled in off a fairway and disappeared forever, never to be seen again. Also these were the slowest greens I have ever played in my life, you had to muscle downhill putts. Course was pretty wet and I think just due to the topography there are some drainage challenges, I understand that.
We got lunch at the turn and it was ready on time and delicious so 10/10 for the food staff. Carts were electric and well maintained.
Overall ALMOST an amazing experience, definitely worth a visit however with a few maintenance issues addressed and maybe a few hole tweaks on the front 9 this could be a true desired golf destination.
Lots of potential
1st time playing. Beautiful views of the mountains. Greens were smooth but soft and slow. Fairways need a lot of help. Traps were nice with fresh white sand. Layout was excellent with lots of variety. All the staff on Friday were especially nice. Played again Saturday, different staff were less friendly especially the starter who was unnecessarily rude both before the round at the turn and after. Ate lunch upstairs after. Food and service were both decent.
Beauty of the Mountains
This course is a wonderful layout nestled in the mountains of North Carolina. Elevation changes, a running brook winds through the course, and holes that offer the golfer varying lengths and challenges. I cannot wait to play it again!
Discovered a Great golf course
A friend told us to make sure to travel up from Black Mt to play this course. So glad we did - great shape, beautiful greens, fantastic mountain views w cyrstal clear trout streams running through course. Also, good pace of play n Friendly, happy staff, too. Will definately be back!
Beautiful venue, pros and cons
Greens and tees were nice, but fairway weeds were everywhere and the sand in bunkers was not great. Setting was great and some tighter more challenging fairways made breaking 90 from the blues a fun victory.
Beautiful place to gold
Truly a gorgeous place to play golf with scenic views of the surrounding mountains and creeks. Front 9 was mostly flat though has the best views of the mountains in my opinion. The back nine had a varied elevation and much more challenging layout. Greens were in great condition throughout the course and rolled at a good speed. However, the fairways need some work with many weeds growing up through them. The rough also looked like it could use a cut on some holes. I heard the new owners plan to address these issues in the coming years so I’m excited to come back and see the progress. Also, didn’t notice a driving range at all for those that like to warm up before hand. Overall, I truly enjoyed my time at this course and would highly recommend it.
Scenic
Beautiful setting and surroundings. Feel the greens fees are a little overpriced for the course condition.
Beautiful mountain course
2nd time here and they have made improvements!! Rough is cut to a reasonable length and the course is now cart friendly which is huge. Greens are perfect but very slow, they need cut and roll and it would be so much better. Second, some traps need drainage, more sand and to be fluffy raked. Wet concrete is unplayable.
The course needs work
The new owners do not seem to have done any improvements to the actual golf course after conditions having declined for the past few years. The fairways were pretty bad and the tees not much better. The greens were fine although slow as usual. To give credit, some of the traps did have some sand in them so an improvement there.
This is still my favorite course because of the layout. I'm hoping it will get returned to what it once was.
Rain or shine
Drove over an hour to this course today and it started raining on my way. I about cancelled but I decided to go anyways and I am so happy I did. The staff was super nice and welcoming. The course itself is in really good shape even in the rain. Love the layout as well. Helped that I played well but the bogey on 18 has me itching to go back as soon as possible. I texted s buddy about the course and his response was “that course has s different vibe out there, it’s really a wonderful place to be.” So go check it out and hit ‘em straight
Incredible hidden gem
Great course. Reasonable price. Highly recommended.

if they start allowing carts on the fairways it will never again be in reasonable condition!
