Brunswick Plantation & Golf Resort is a 27-hole layout located in the fishing village of Calabash, North Carolina, abut 20 minutes north of Myrtle Beach.

It has three distinct nines: the Magnolia, Azalea and Dogwood. On all nines, you need to hit the ball straight off the tee, taking care of the fairway bunkers, some of which are fairly high-lipped. The course has quick, bent-grass greens, moderately large, and lush, well-tended fairways set amidst tall, Carolina pines.

The dogwood course lies along the waters of the Caw Caw Run amongst hardwood trees with wide open fairways. All are fairly flat with moderate rough.

Love this course

I love playing this course. Never has been in bad shape. Greens were slow. If I lived here, I would play more often!

A hot, slow day of golf

This course looks very playable, but it isn't. I lost a LOT of balls. The rough was thick. It was difficult to spot or hit the ball. The course had been thatched recently. For this reason, the balls moved slowly. There were plenty of opportunities to hit the ball into the water.

Moreover, play on the back nine was so slow that it took us 4 1/2 hours even though we'd finished the first 9 in 1 1/2 hours. In fact, it would have taken longer, but all three of us skipped the 18th hole.

I did appreciate the strategic location and good condition of the restrooms as well as the provision of water on the course.

I also appreciated the starter's introducing me to my playing partners, who were members.

Aeration Not Posted on Website

They gave us half price without us asking, but we would have played somewhere else if we knew. I did not see any notification of the aeration on the website. The staff was friendly, the clubhouse and bar were very good. The layout was fairly interesting. The fairways could have been more consistent and were fairly wet. I didn’t see it rain for several days, but we did have a tropical storm the previous week. I don’t know if this is typical for the area, but it did seem overly wet a week after the storm. The greens were unplayable, Not just the punch holes, but loaded with sand. We had to just make everything that landed on the green a town putt. It might be ok under better conditions, but I’m a little skeptical and don’t think I’d want to play it again.

Great Value

Showed up an hour early to hit range balls and unfortunately the range was closed; however,

the starter asked us to go ahead and tee off.

Fairway’s were in great shape and the greens

we’re running slow, but fair. The course was

wet, but extremely well manicured. Pace of

play started slow, but then picked up. Played

in 3hours 50minutes. The value of $46 per

person was excellent. Will return soon.

Challenging sets of 9's

Course was in above average shape, for the drought we are having at this time. Greens were very good, but some tee boxes, and fairways, are begging for rain.

This is a fair, very playable golf course. Go have a little fun, but expect to have 4-4 1/2 hr round. The heat indexes of 105+ is tough on an afternoon on the course though, and NO beverage cart(s) all day!!

Great Course for the Money.

Great Course. Very playable. Course was in great condition. Greens were receptable and rolled true. Staff was pleasant. Hated that clubhouse was closed at 4:15. Cart paths could use some work. All in all well worth the money.

Brunswick Plantation Delivers

Nice course and in excellent condition. The only shortcoming was a 5.5 hour round as we waited on every shot from the first to the last. But, a very well conditioned course. A lot of doglegs. Par 3s are long. Greens rolled well but can be tricky. Magnolia seemed to play tighter than Dogwood. Keep up the good work as I will be back.

Hair Above Average

Course is decent but nothing to write home about. Layout is solid with some fun holes and course is fair with where trouble lies. Pin placements are horrible and the bunkers have way too much sand. Can also tell nothing with the course or its amenities (outside of the bar/restaurant) have been updated since the 80s. That being said, for ~$60 it’s a decent value, especially when you have courses around it charging much more.

Unprofessional Staff/Rushed pace of play.

When I first arrived I was immediately greeted by one of the staffed members yelling across the parking lot "HEY! You ain't gonna golf with that shirt on today!" I said this is a Nike Dri Fit Victory Polo which I bought at the PGA super store. (I play golf several times a week and have never had a complaint at any other course). He said "I don't care you ain't playing with it!" Then I was instructed to ask the people at check if it was fine to wear which they stated it is in fact a good golf shirt and is totally acceptable. If he had a problem he should have just said hey don't know if that shirt will work check with the front desk prior to check in. After that we are paired up with a group who is new to golf so we played a little slower than usual, but that being said we were still 45 min faster than the recommended 2 hour and 15 min pace of play. The ranger asked us every hole just seeing how yall are coming along. This just made us feel rused and unwelcome. I don't mind a steady pace of play but this just felt so rushed. The course layout, greens and fairways were amazing and fun. But the horrible staff experience and rushed pace of play ruined the whole game and my enjoyment foe golfing that day. I probably won't play here again or recommended it due to the poor staff and over all rushed feeling.

Soggy Fairway but can't wait to go back

Unfortuatly, it rained quite a bit the day before we played leaving soggy fairways and cart paths only. In spite of that, we enjoyed the course very much and will definitly play it again when in the area
