Tanglewood Golf Club - Championship Course
About
Since Tanglewood Golf Club's Championship Course opened in 1958 it has consistently ranked as one of the top public courses in the U.S. This Robert Trent Jones layout has 99 bunkers. It was designed to test the best golfers in the world and fits Jones' design philosophy of "easy bogey, hard par." RTJ believed the long iron shot separated the championship golfer from the average golfer and created several holes with that in mind. The seventh and 12th holes, both par 3s, play over 230 yards from the back tees. The par-4 11th hole is 490 yards. Fortunately for the recreational golfer, Jones built multiple teeing grounds to Tanglewood's Championship Course enjoyable for all skill levels.

Bunkers
Challenging course. Prepare to be in the bunkers. The flag is very well guarded.
Great course
I played with a great GolfNow rate on a Monday afternoon. The course was in fantastic shape for early May, and all of the 99 bunkers were raked and ready for play. The fairways and greens were in great shape. I thoroughly enjoyed my round, and I am excited to return with a friend. I was registered solo but was partnered with another two-some. It was a great day on the course, and I will definitely be back. I highly recommend this course for anyone looking for a challenge above and beyond the run-of-the-mill courses in the area. Bring your A-game or you may spend more time in the sand them David Hasselhoff!
Too many traps
This is a bad course for anyone wanting to enjoy your day. Bunkers are placed to swallow every drive and every green front and back are surrounded with no way to run up the front and if your ball doesn't hold your in another trap. The quality of the traps is brutal filled with gravel and stones, many as hard as concrete.
Good place but not worth the price
Interesting and challenging layout. It makes you plan your next shot to get exact yardages rather than just hot it. Grip it and rippers would hate this course. Overall good course but conditions are just above muni level so it's just not worth the price, especially when you have to pay another $2 just to get into the park
Good challenge...fairways overseeded..looked great.
Played on Good Friday..had overseeded fairways and course looked great. Pace of play was good..4 hour round on a holiday. Will be back..
Tough challenge
A true test of championship golf. Fair but difficult with big elevation changes and tiered greens. You have to be on you game here to play well.
Future gem but not now.
Wait about a month until they have reworked the bunkers and the fairways have grown in a little more. This is a TOUGH track to begin with and playing it in these conditions will frustrate the experience even more. Be patient and i believe this will be one of the jewels of the area again.
Don't miss an opportunity here
This is always a great golf experience as it will test each club in your bag. The par 3's are very testy as are the green complexes for each hole. Shot placement is a must to score. Good putting with attention to both speed and line will be required. Don't expect to burn this course up. It's a fair test of your ability to control your golf ball. Very enjoyable and challenging. Be sure that you select the appropriate tee for your ability as this will definitely affect your round enjoyment.
Tanglewood championship course
Good course and fun to play. Staff very friendly. Lots of sand but that's part of the challenge.
Freguent player still recommends
I have been playing Tanglewood for 20+ years and still enjoy both courses. The chanpionship course is always a challenge. The greens are perfect and fast however the course needs work with trees and debries after the last winter storm. Some of the bunkers are also inconsistent. Give it a couple of weeks and they should have those issues fixed.
Good Stuff
For the time of year - course was in good shape... great staff - very helpful and welcoming! Can't wait to come back in peak of season!
Tanglewood Championship course
Played course right after ice storm ,lots of tree limbs on ground. I have no problem with that,it will get cleaned up,however the condition of the sand bunkers ,some of which had no sand period...was not good.this is a great course but should be closed until clean up and bunkers repaired.Staff was great !
course is long and bunker play is challenging
Course was undergoing recovery from huge ice storm, but there were very few problems to deal with.
Staff did amazing job of making everything work for us to play. can't wait to go back and play when everything is in top shape and everything is green. Thumbs up.
Better bring your A-game
Extremely challenging course, particularly from the tips. Undulating greens and bunkers galore will make a man out of you to say the least. Two par 3's over 230 yards, both over water, and par 4's long enough to be considered par 5's anywhere else. RTJ had a mindset of "easy bogey, hard par" when designing the course and well, he succeeded in that. Bottom line: if you have an advanced game, you'll love the challenge, however, the average golfer will have a very long, tough day.
Good challenge, great value.
Played on super GolfNow rate. Nice condition for winter play. Don't miss a chance to play it. But, bring your sand wedge with over 100 bunkers.
Outstanding greens, varied holes, good warmup area
Outstanding public facility, excellent greens, nice warmup area. Pick the right tees for a memorable experience.

Beautiful golf course
Very challenging and nice course, tons of bunkers so be ready to play sand
You will find a bunker for sure
The course was in great condition. It has very many bunkers. As a newbie, you simply put in the trap.
Tough par 3's!
Excellent course, very long tough par 3's and great layout, highly recommended
