Holes 18

Par 70
Length 7101 yards
Slope 140
Rating 74.6

Since Tanglewood Golf Club's Championship Course opened in 1958 it has consistently ranked as one of the top public courses in the U.S. This Robert Trent Jones layout has 99 bunkers. It was designed to test the best golfers in the world and fits Jones' design philosophy of "easy bogey, hard par." RTJ believed the long iron shot separated the championship golfer from the average golfer and created several holes with that in mind. The seventh and 12th holes, both par 3s, play over 230 yards from the back tees. The par-4 11th hole is 490 yards. Fortunately for the recreational golfer, Jones built multiple teeing grounds to Tanglewood's Championship Course enjoyable for all skill levels.

What a gem of a place to play in a beautiful place.

Tanglewood is a special place! When you ride into the park it gives you a good feeling and the staff at the golf shop were just the best . The championship course is a great design and # 3 par 3 is one great par 3.

Great Layout

The champions course is a true classic. No hole is alike and the bunkering is fantastic. It is a very old course and that shows in the condition. Greens were slow and not very smooth. It is a very difficult and tight course that is fun to play. Besides who doesn't like playing a course that the PGA tour used to play of for a great deal?!

Great Course - Very Challenging

The course was in great shape, greens had just been aerated so they were a little bumpy. Every Green surrounded by bunkers, requires lots of precision with shots. Followed the RTJ policy of hard par, easy bogey. The bunkers are hard to get out of b/c of the thin red sand, needed some more sand in them.

course has wonderful fairways

Course is in great shape for being @ the end of summer. The challenge is to hit the greens, all of them are surrounded by bunkers. That's a good thing, it makes you concentrate and good for working on your accuracy for your approach shot.

Best Greens I've played on a public course ever.

You have to pay $2 to park, as it is in a public park area, but the undulations in fairways and greens make this awesome.
Traps have reddish sand, but just stay our of them.

Great

The course is absolutely beautiful and well maintained. The layout was as exquisite as one would expect from a Robert Trent Jones design. The course still harbors the same beauty and mystique as it did when the Golden Bear walked these hallowed fairways during his close loss to Travino at the 1974 PGA Championship. The fairways and two different cuts of rough were in tip top shape. Each and every green was well guarded by an army of loyal bunkers that offered a challenge but were so well maintained that it almost felt easy to hit out of them after playing such inferior bunkers prior to my visit to Tanglewood. The greens had difficult layouts but were so consistent with each other that after you putt a few times, anticipating breaks and speed becomes habitual. Even the staff here was wonderful, everyone was so friendly and had a genuine love for the game. I will definitely be playing this course again and encourage every golfer to give this course a go. This is a world class golf course, if you live in NC you need to play here.

A must play.

A must play if you like a challenge. Can see why it is in top list of public golf courses to play. Par 70 and over 7,000 yards from tips. Next time in area will play again!

Course is in great shape

Very challenging course, you absolutely have to keep the ball in fairways. Rough is very thick and hard to hit out of. Enjoy the sand!

This course is a hided gem, hosted PGA Championship and Senior Tour.

After two weeks of heavy rain, we played this course, most bunkers were flooded, but the rest of the course was in great shape. Just an excellent course to play. Great fairways and super greens. Great layout, good price. Highly recommended.

Overall Good Course

This course has one of the more interesting layouts around the triad. There are many challenging holes always seem to be well guarded by bunkers making the approach quite difficult. The greens and fairways are in great shape but the bunkers are not. With so much sand on the course you hope that it would be in decent shape but here that is not the case which can make for a frustrating round because you are bound to find the sand at least once here.

Overall I enjoyed the course.... pace was average and for the most part the course is in great shape. I will play again but only give it four stars for bunker condition.

Bunker heaven

The layout of the course was excellent. Played from the blue tee's and was able to use every club in the bag, which is what I like in a course. The fairways and rough were in good condition, but the greens were alittle fuzzy, alittle mowing would of made them perfect.

The most bunkers i've seen on a course and they were well placed, which made it a fun challenge. I'd definately recommend this if you are looking for a challenge.

A challenging layout, number 2 is a long par 4. Two par 3's with water on the left side. Overall challenging and a pleasure to play.

Despite being very crowded on the back side the pace of play was reasonable. When you can get a deal on Golfnow.com this has to be one of the best values around for the money.

Good Course, Tight Course

I played Tanglewood-Reynolds with my wife. This was a Saturday, late afternoon round, so the greens being slower and bumpy might not be the fault of the course. I'm played the course a couple weeks ago and the greens were really good, much better than today. The course is tight, especially on the back 9. Its a fun course with not a lot of length, but can be challenging. There are several elevated greens and well guarded bunks. I would definitely recommend this course.

Great course with a lot of doglegs to make you think what you are hitting off the tee. Greens were nice and rolled really well.

good time, challenging course

I am relatively new to golf, but when I found this deal on GolfNow, I couldn't pass it up even though I knew this was a tough course. I probably visited every bunker on the entire course, but they were so well-maintained that it didn't bother me. The layout is a bit tricky, and you will really need to pay attention so that you don't get lost en route to the next hole, but other than that, this course was excellent.

this course has great features

I've played here for years, but this time, the greens were in great shape. Smooth and slick. Great course for a shotmaker. You'll wanna be fairly accurate, to tackle this track. Not overly long, very fun course while hitting it well. Not so much if your spraying just a bit.
