Great value
Walked the course on a Thursday with very few others on the course. Back 9 a good challenge for this very average golfer. Biggest beef is lack of yardage markers and card could be clearer about distances to hazards. A fabulous value with my internet discounted green fee.
Play after the October flood
I played the second sunny day after all the rain. Course still a bit damp and soft and the Greens very soft. Felt bad for the greens as the ball would stick very easy and deep. Not everyone fixing their mark.
Loved the course my first time playing there and first time in NC.
Would love to play again some day
Beautiful day for golf
It was a beautiful day for golf. The course was in average condition, with the greens being slow except for the occasional somewhat faster one.
Great Value
Really enjoyed the course. Great value for the excellent shape it's in. Not a difficult course, but has holes that will leave you with some tricky approaches, so scoring isn't a given. Will be back!
Unimpressed
My first time at the course and found it really mediocre. Fairways were in excellent shape and produced great lies but greens were extremely soft and chewed up. Too many unrepaired or improperly repaired marks and weeds. Tractor mishap ruined the 3rd green but keeper forewarned of that.
My biggest complaint was poorly marked or nonexistent yardage markers at the tees and fairways. Combined with numerous hidden or long fairways, it made club selection off the tee very difficult for a course newbie. Very frustrating.
Crossings
Plays a nice 6500+ .. Fairways were in decent shape and tee boxes were fair - greens could have been better . It pretty much looked like s tournament was played and not 1 person replaced their divots . Some
Challenging holes but a better course for the bogey to more newer golfer
Staff was friendly . Pace of play was average . Price is a little high compared to the other courses in the area , especially when you can drive 2 minutes down the road and play a better maintenced corse for cheaper price
Awesome course with wide Fairways.
This is a beautiful course cut through rolling hills. Every hole is unique and the course is very well maintained for a public course. Greens are soft and roll about an 8 on the stimp. Good for higher handicap players. Greens are small and require some accuracy. Only weakness is the houses around the course. Just ignore those and you will have an awesome time. Liked the variety of par 3's one pretty long one at 205 and one short over water to an island type green. You can be very aggressive and cut corners if you hit a long ball. I cut the corner on a 400 yard par 4 and hit the green. Turns it into a 280 carry I would guess.
Good time with friends
Course was in good shape...some of the bunkers are considered ground under repair because of a lack of sand and upkeep. The greens very very soft, being that soft there seemed to be quite a bit of ball marks. They need to be careful because with the greens being so wet to cool them algae was forming. Fairways weren't horrible, decent shape. Overall good condition and fun times were had.
Great layout at a great price. Bunkers need work but would go back again.
Paid $20.00 to play. Took us 3 hours 15 mins to finish. The layout is fun and somewhat challenging. Bunkers need lots of attention but tee boxes, greens, fairways and most rough was in great shape. There was a ranger out keeping things moving which was nice. On 18 we caught up to a single who was playing about 9 balls. Some greens had lots of unfixed ball marks which made us wonder how often this happens. Overall great time and will go back.
Great Course & Friendly Staff
I played here on Sunday and the course was in great shape. However, I was really disappointed that no one had taken the time to rake the bunkers. Durham received significant rain the Thursday before my round so I expected the sand in the bunkers to be a little compact but, this is why you rake them. That's unacceptable for a weekend round. This is also why I did not give them 5 stars. Staff is very Friendly.
Good course, good value
Course was in pretty good shape. Greens rolled good. Offers a lot of different shots. Not just a grip it and rip it course.
A hidden Jewel and Affordable Too
This course is really a hidden jewel. Although it's close to home, nobody I know plays it. The course is in excellent condition and the holes are scenic and interesting--especially the par-5 ninth hole where water must be crossed twice.
Soft greens and good fairways
A great value for the cost. We played quickly and had a great time as the course was very fair. There are some blind shots and printing the course guide before playing would have surely helped.
Good value and good test
Course conditions: Fairways were good enough to play ball down. Rough was very thick in some places and not evenly mowed so lies varied greatly. Greens were average as far as being smooth and speed.
Layout: This is the best part about the course. Any shots that stray of the beaten path at all will be lost and a penalty. Many doglegs. Island green par 3.
I played from the tips. At 6590 yds and a par 71, it plays closer to 6800 yds. So with very penal areas and think rough, there is a premium of driving accuracy.
Par 3 are log in general. But good relief for seniors.
This is demanding with accurate tee shots, log par 3s. But will allow for good scoring if you play well.
Will play again for sure!
Soft Greens, good layout
Target golf with greens that reward aggressive shots make this course very enjoyable. Move back a set of tees from your normal set otherwise it will be too easy.
i've played better
trying new courses in the area. this was a good drive for me from clayton and I wish I would have stayed home. good price but the course was in bad shape. greens were horrible.
Always a good time at The Crossings
One of the rare courses in this area to have both good fairways and good greens at this time of year. Staff is very friendly, and the food and beverage is excellent for the price.
The Crossings is a pretty tight residential layout, with tight fairways and lots of woods and wetlands for buffer. I really like that the setup takes the layout into consideration - the rough is pretty high and you definitely want to avoid it, but it also keeps your ball from running into the lateral hazards.
The woods/wetlands are usually marked as lateral hazards, rather than OB, so if you lose one you can legally drop where you went in instead of going back to the tee (I know most people do that anyway, but it's nice to see superintendents set the course up that way)
It's a short course from the forward men's tees (white) with no long carries, we played one back (blue) and had several carries of 200yds or more (including a 200yd par3). For shorter hitters who can control their ball the course plays well from hybrid tees.
The amenities were very good, plenty of water on the course, rangers did their job well, pace of play was right on time - 4 hours is reasonable for this course.
My only knock on this course is the lack of a driving range, but there simply doesn't seem to be room for one in the layout. Otherwise I always enjoy playing here and will be back soon.
No Water Coolers!!!
Overall rating will stay three stars until they put more than three water coolers on the course or have a cart riding around with water
The Crossings
The Crossings is a challenging layout. The greens are in good shape and hold well. Keep it in the fairway and it plays fair. Several holes on the back are very challenging. The 7th and 16th holes are too long for the average senior golfer even from the senior tees.
Not bad for the $
Crossings is not a bad course under 50 dollars. The back 9 is definitely more interesting. Pace of play was pretty good but we were not happy when, as the only 4some on the course the marshal pushed us when we were 5 min off the pace. Otherwise the course conditions are fair with some bare spots in the fairway and definitely in the rough. Also be aware there is no driving range or warmup area.
