About
Lockwood Folly Country Club is a superbly conditioned, semi-private, member owned "hidden gem". The course is located at the confluence of the Intracoastal Waterway and the Lockwood Folly River, providing golfers with breathtaking vistas of tidal estuary, moss covered hard- woods and the solitude of nature. Tree lined, nonparallel fairways winding through hardwoods and pine afford a sense of seclusion while challanged with championship golf.

Golfer Reviews
Great course
Lockwood Folly is a great course with an awesome layout.
Good layout
Been a few years since I played here , really like layout , tees and fairways were in great shape but most of the greens were somewhat stressed , patches of “ burned out “ areas. Hopefully correctable for their sake , saved $20 per person using prepaid vs their course rate , probably only play at a discounted rate given current conditions.
Great course, poor customer service & pro shop professionalism
We have a house on Holden Beach, We live at Holden Beach 1/3 of the year, our name is on the GSI, we got married at Lockwood Folly last May, we have played golf at Lockwood Folly more than 50 times in the last 2 years. Yet we had to pay the “out of town” rate. It’s a nice course, but if we cannot get the resident rate because the lady in the pro shop said we were not “residents” we will just find elsewhere to play.
Very Scenic Course
This course is a solid course. It is a short drive from Wilmington nc and we’ll worth it. There are black squirrels to boot! Good layout, good greens, and better views. A few holes have alligators and or waterway views. Would recommend!!
Golf day
First time playing this course this year. The fairways were in excellent condition as well as most of the greens.
Even though I found too many sand traps, our foursome had an enjoyable day on this beautiful course.
Lockwood folly
It was Memorial Day and the flags were small US Flags. There were holders off of every green to hold the pin so it would not touch the ground. The group in front of my twosome let us play through on #5. I asked them to use the holders provided and to please not put the flag on the ground. They apologized profusely and told me they wondered what those red things were for on every green. We let a onesome play through on #7 and I reminded him also to please use the flag holder when he removed the pin. Both of these other groups said that the pro shop nor the starter mentioned the flag holders to them. They didn’t mention it to me either but I am a veteran and knew how to treat the flag. I was very disappointed in this lack of instruction.
Several of the greens were in a sad state of repair with many bare or sanded spots and they were all very very slow for Bermuda greens. Fairways were in pretty good shape for this time of year. Overall an OK course..
Play it for yourself
We read the reviews before booking a tee time. But decided to go check the course out for ourselves. We had a great time playing Folly. Pretty challenging course if it's your 1st time. Yes, some of the greens need a little TLC but what course doesn't have that problem. I will be coming back asap.
Great Fun
Course in great condition. Scenic 18th Fairway under some repair but not necessarily in play.
Nice course
Very Scenic The staff are very nice. There is no return to club house at the turn but there is a beverage cart.
Not worth the drive
Sad to see this fine layout crumbling due to lack of care. Fairways are thin and greens should be rated as mostly under repair. Greens do not roll well and have lots of weeds and dead spots. Many had extensive sand and repair spots. Oddly, the many bunkers are in reasonably good condition - they have more depth of sand than many courses in the Ocean Isle Beach or Calabash area. But I cannot recommend the course anymore - it is in worse shape than any of the others I've played in the area.
Rough shape
Greens were not in good shape, sand traps were sometimes full. You can tell they owners have not spent any money on the upkeep of this course
