About
Designed by Clyde Johnston and popular PGA Tour star Fuzzy Zoeller, the Island West Golf Club is a course built around natural marshland and follows the landscape presenting a rolling, tree-lined course.
As one would imagine a course with Zoeller's fingerprints, Island West in Bluffton was built to be a fun, entertaining play, and has succeeded in its mission. Playing to 6,803 with a 129 slope rating from the tips, it's a solid test for the skillful yet playable for the not-so skillful.
Water comes in to play on 10 holes here, so the bold will have many risk-reward opportunities. Accuracy off the tee is a must on many of the tree-lined holes, yet other holes feature wide fairways. Island West is exactly the type of course you'd imagine Zoeller being a part of, but Johnston's expertise also shines through.

Prepare to get soaked
Had an afternoon tee time and the sprinklers were going on the entire back 9. What a joke! Couldn't even putt any greens. Not that in mattered, cause the greens are an absolute disaster anyway. This happened another time I played this course, but decided to give it another try... NEVER AGAIN!
Tougher than expected
Course was in good shape. Small greens. Could have been marked better, most sprinkler heads did not have yardages. Staff was friendly. Pace of play was good
lots of risk/reward holes
This is the 1st time I've played this course since 1995. From tee to green the course was in great shape . a few tee boxes need work but not bad. a few greens have some rough spots but overall in good condition. They rolled a little slower than expected.The fairways , for the most part , had very good grass. The sand traps were wet due to heavy rain the past week. i would highly recommend this course and the prices are great.
Nice course
The greens have recovered nicely since they were aerated.The bunkers need some attention.Fairways could be a little more lush but were good.Long rough.Overall good course.Will play again.
I thought that this course was in very good shape greens were excellent brown spot here or there did not affect the play at all fairways excellent I would play this course again any day the price you pay was excellent
Annual Golf Trip
The golf course layout and fairways were great. The ONLY problem my group had was the greens were in TERRIBLE conditions. We were never told anything during check in about the green conditions and traveling from Maryland only made the matter worst.
My group was highly upset.

Greens were just aerated.. Plenty of grass when they start cutting. Fairways in great shape.

The greens on nearly every hole are in terrible condition.
Island golf
Pace of play was good. The greens were in bad shape! The fairways were not great either. I would not recommend this course.
I will give another chance later in the year.
Nice layout, fairways in decent shape but the greens were spotty at best and the bunkers hadn't been taken care of. For the money it was worth it. Hopefully with a few more weeks of warm weather the greens will fill in.
Good Value
Course is still recovering from storm damage. The greens are rough but getting better. There are some wet spots and the tee boxes need to grow back. the low fees makeup for the rough condition. The staff was very friendly and the pace of play was average for a morning round.

Was great time and course was good. Will recommend and return to play.
Value golf.
The course looked great from the road. Course was in decent shape. Tee boxes were in average shape. Greens looked good from the road; however they are very patchy and painted green. Great course if you can get a hot deal.
Nice day out
I have played this course many times over the last 10 years and it was in the worst shape I have seen it during that time. Greens were horrible. Little grass on fairways. Rained on two holes during round. It rained again overnight and then I played the course again the next day with another group. Greens improved tremendously. fairways were slightly better with the grass beginning to grow again. Amazing change in 24 hours. This is a nice course and will continue to play there.
