About
Designed by Clyde Johnston and popular PGA Tour star Fuzzy Zoeller, the Island West Golf Club is a course built around natural marshland and follows the landscape presenting a rolling, tree-lined course.
As one would imagine a course with Zoeller's fingerprints, Island West in Bluffton was built to be a fun, entertaining play, and has succeeded in its mission. Playing to 6,803 with a 129 slope rating from the tips, it's a solid test for the skillful yet playable for the not-so skillful.
Water comes in to play on 10 holes here, so the bold will have many risk-reward opportunities. Accuracy off the tee is a must on many of the tree-lined holes, yet other holes feature wide fairways. Island West is exactly the type of course you'd imagine Zoeller being a part of, but Johnston's expertise also shines through.

Good Deal!
Friendly staff. Many interesting holes. Good greens. I would play it again.
good bang for the buck
Course was wet due to rain the previous day, so naturally cart path only. All things considered an enjoyable round.
Too wet
Course should not have been open....many fairways were unplayable...hard to find a lie in fairways that was not very wet...course usually in very good shape...

Great value
Three of us played 7 courses in 7 days. Island West was the best value of all seven. Enjoyable experience. We highly recommend this course.
Fun course to play
Very wet due to rain over the past week. Needs time to dry out.
Scenic Fun Course
Had a tee time for 12:00 but with rain coming tried and was able to get there and start early. By the 14th hole the rain was coming down again so yes, the course played wet. However with the exception of 3 of the poor drainage holes the course played well. I thought that it is a nicely set up course as you weave in and out of the community. Greens played fine. Overall a nice course, friendly staff and good value.
Not the best condition
Tee boxes need some work. The cart paths are very beaten up and full of large pot holes. Some of the greens had damage.
Used to be a nice course but seems to be a little tired now.
Island West October 2015
with the exception of a couple of holes this course is challenging moderately.However the rough is too long and it takes forever to find a ball that is less than a yard off the fairway.
Having played the course I would go back and play it again.
Get off HH to play golf
Island West golf club is a nice track in Bluffton,SC, just off of Hilton Head island. The course was in good condition & the greens roll true. It was my first time playing the course & I wouldn't hesitate to play it again.
somewhat challenging
some greens are tiny.The landing areas off the tees are reasonable. Be sure of distances to dogleg turns.
Lou
Course layout was good and challenging from white tees. However, due to the recent rains, the course played very long and was soft, wet in spots. Had trouble finding balls in rough as ball settled down in it. Seniors should play course from the silver tees.
Would like to play it again when it has dried out.
Soggy
Course was extremely wet. Surprised that they had not closed the course. The driving range was not open. The tee boxes had long grass. This made it difficult to tee the ball at the height I wanted. Layout was fine.
Should not have continued playing
The course was in terrible shape due to wet weather. There should have been some indication of the conditions before we paid. The fairways were so wet, the mud was over our shoes in most paces. We lost several ball in the middle of the fairway due to long grass and mud. It was so wet that even the tee boxes had long grass as the staff was unable to mow them. The staff was very indifferent and not welcoming. The only food was sandwiches (they were freshly made). We would not recommend this course to anyone and will not be back as there are many other courses in much better shape and with friendly, welcoming staff.
Course was still flooded
It would have been nice to know that it was cart path only and the course was almost unplayable. I had a prepaid tee time that was unable to be changed so I played. I have played the course several times before and I like the layout under normal conditions and the staff is always great and helpful. This was an anomaly and I will book again when it is dried out!
This course has a very friendly staff
With all the high prices and arrogance on Hilton Head Island, it was nice to play a course where they treated you like a real customer. that wanted you to come back. The day we played it was like our own private course. Very friendly staff people that made our play even more fun. We will return!

Overall a great course for the value. Greens in very good shape and very well kept.
Fun round
It was a fun round on a golf course with a few memorable holes and enough filler holes to complete the round.
