About
Designed by Clyde Johnston and popular PGA Tour star Fuzzy Zoeller, the Island West Golf Club is a course built around natural marshland and follows the landscape presenting a rolling, tree-lined course.
As one would imagine a course with Zoeller's fingerprints, Island West in Bluffton was built to be a fun, entertaining play, and has succeeded in its mission. Playing to 6,803 with a 129 slope rating from the tips, it's a solid test for the skillful yet playable for the not-so skillful.
Water comes in to play on 10 holes here, so the bold will have many risk-reward opportunities. Accuracy off the tee is a must on many of the tree-lined holes, yet other holes feature wide fairways. Island West is exactly the type of course you'd imagine Zoeller being a part of, but Johnston's expertise also shines through.

Great Value
Played in the morning. Was paired up with a couple of others. pace was great we played 18 holes in about 4 hours. Several good holes. More yardage would be better. Couple of carries over marsh or waste areas. Glad I had my range finder. Greens good pace. Well maintained. Will return . Staff was friendliy and fun to deal with. GOOD PLAY FOR GREAT PRICE,,
Fun Course
Nice people. I really enjoyed the layout. Fairways were excellent. Great course, especially for the price.
Wet but Good Day
Course was is good shape, tees and fairways good, greens had some areas that were not good but overall greens rolled nice for the price. 4 hour round with at least half hour to hour rain delay (3 hour round).
Good course, Nice layout. Needs some work.
Fairways and roughs were in good condition. Multiple tee boxes needed much attention as they were not taken care of. In addition, while most greens were nice, quite a few had sizable areas with black spots and no grass. Overall nice layout. Good length and challenge.
Good for the price
Good course for the Money. Must keep your ball in the fairway or area around the rough has lots of roots.
Just keep it in play.
Great value!
Course was in really nice shape. Very impressed with the fairways and greens. This course has some very challenging holes, but, it is not brutally long. Pace of play was great. but, it was a weekday and no one was in front of us so no complaints at all. IW is definitely comparable to HH National and will cost you a lot less.
Great course for money
Fairways were in great condition and ball Sat up nicely for next shot. I thought greens were in good shape, you have to consider what you are paying for. I think you get much better course quality for your money than I expected. Just a great time. Will be back.
Challenging, fun to play and great value!
Great shape for June and considering the hot and dry weather we've had. Staff was friendly and knowledgable. Great value! Fun to play, challenging for players of all skill levels but may be a little on the short side for longer hitters and single digit golfers. Half the cost of most other courses on the island.
Slow play
except for the slow threesome ahead of us that refused to let us play through for 13 holes it was a fairly good day.
Greens stink.
Maintaining the golf course is kept at a bare minimum at this course now. Playing it two years ago it was much nicer. Now everything on the course is done just well enough to get by without it looking like a complete trash. Overall Island West is beginning to look more and more like every other goat path golf course you can play. Won't be playing here anymore.
Finally, grass under the ball in fairway!
Greens were back to about 80-99% after being aerated. Grass was great in fairway. Fun time.
Awesome
The experience was awesome. Again. Lots of places to play down here, this one is a consistent value.
Sand Traps
Course has an interesting layout. Some memorable holes.
However, there is never fresh sand in the traps. In fact, hitting out of traps is really hitting off of hard pan.
Challenging but great.
The course was challenging but fun. It was our first time playing didn't really know how the course was laid out but had a great time. Greens putted true our group will be back to play again.

Just punched greens 2 weeks prior.
Still greens were fair, however tee boxes and fairways where excellent.
Stall members were exceptional!

Fairways very good overall and greens much improved since early spring.
Aerated Gtrens
Didn't look like the sand was even dispersed on the all the greens. Not bad for the price though.
Nice course, great value
Course is in very good condition, excellent greens. The card nor the tee markers have layouts so if you aren't familiar with the course, there are some blind shots exposed to water hazards that can be tricky. Overall, love playing here.
Course in real good shape
Been a while from our last time there over a year.Course is much better, Your ground crew is doing a nice job.
