Type Public
Par 72
Length 6803 yards
Slope 140
Rating 73.3

Designed by Clyde Johnston and popular PGA Tour star Fuzzy Zoeller, the Island West Golf Club is a course built around natural marshland and follows the landscape presenting a rolling, tree-lined course.

As one would imagine a course with Zoeller's fingerprints, Island West in Bluffton was built to be a fun, entertaining play, and has succeeded in its mission. Playing to 6,803 with a 129 slope rating from the tips, it's a solid test for the skillful yet playable for the not-so skillful.

Water comes in to play on 10 holes here, so the bold will have many risk-reward opportunities. Accuracy off the tee is a must on many of the tree-lined holes, yet other holes feature wide fairways. Island West is exactly the type of course you'd imagine Zoeller being a part of, but Johnston's expertise also shines through.

Love to play again when dry.

First time player here. Staff friendly easy on. Course was very wet from several days of rain. We were allowed 90degrees only. Very soggy and many balls plugged. I loved the course, would recommend and I want to replay with drier conditions. Btw..saw 2 gators in the ponds and if you are not driving straight bring plenty of balls. Overall nice course and won't disappoint

A somewhat challenging day in the rain

The course was wet but, it was not cart path only. I found no areas/holes that held water and my cart left no trails. I found the course challenging and fun at the same time. The was my first time playing the course and I have to say it was a great value for the money,<$30.00. I had my first encounter with an alligator on the 17th hole, but it was non-eventful.
My tee-time was late afternoon around 4:30PM and not many people on the course, so I completed my round in 2.5 hours. I played as a single and didn't come upon anyone until the 16th hole. The greens were in good shape and somewhat slow due to the rain earlier. The fairways were very good as well and most bunkers were filled with rain water.
There were about 5 very challenging holes that required you to think about where your second shot should be from to the green. Most of the other holes were pretty much hit it in the fairway and you had a chance at the green.
I'm a 13 handicap and really enjoyed this course. I will definitely be back to play on a drier day!

GREAT COURSE OVERALL!

Course had a few bad areas that are filled with water from all the rain lately. Fairways were a little soft and wet. Greens and tee boxes were in good shape. Overall, a pretty challenging course and a great value.

a little wet but ok

We expected course to be a little wet and the greens were in great condition.Only problem for the day was bag attendent at the end seemed to be rushing us a little to much to get out of the cart when leaving.

Wet but impressed

I wanted to check this course out and the sign as you turn in does not lie. Sign says great course and conditions. Course looked great from tee to green. It is really narrow on most holes so you must drive the ball fairly straight. It rained heavily the night and morning before my round so it was really soggy but I still enjoyed the layout. I will play it again hopefully when it is drier.

Island West GC

We had a 7:32am tee off. The pace of play was excellent. The course definitely had a drainage problem as well as a crab grass problem that affected parts of the course. Some of the cart path bridges felt like they were coming apart as we went over them.
All in all it was a fine morning for a great price!

Played well even in the rain

Played Island West after a hard rain. There was some puddling off the fairways but the fairways themselves were in good shape. The greens rolled great and overall the course played very well given the weather conditions. This course has some significant carries over marshes and the par 3's are longer than most. Overall a good course that was in good shape and fun to play.

Good Deal

We played 4 courses in HHI this week. Two on the island & Two off. Off island we played Crescent Point & Island West. The facilities & design at Crescent Point were nice but the greens & fairways were in much better shape at Island West. I would go with Island West if I had to choose one. On island courses are worth the $$$.

Nice Course Layout

Very fair golf course. Played white tees on hot, humid morning in July. Plenty of room off the tees so go with driver when you choose. Enough length to be fun. Very small greens so know your yardage; bring Sky Caddie or laser. Greens don't have much slope in them.Great value, $38 through Golf Now.

Good course, Nice layout. Needs some work.

Fairways and roughs were in good condition. Multiple tee boxes needed much attention as they were not taken care of. In addition, while most greens were nice, quite a few had sizable areas with black spots and no grass. Overall nice layout. Good length and challenge.
